I'm thinking we need to add an acronym for

SKINNY UGLY GUYS = SUG

Why do "fit" guys automatically think they are so sexy? ha

I'm so ****ing sick of the term "BBW"!!!!!!

I agree. BBW is a PC term for women who are significantly overweight. Even men that usually date larger women won't be attracted to every single large woman.

Ladies, do I really need to tell you why the term BBW exists? Like any other so called PC term, it's a reaction to a certain segment of the population that uses a single characteristic to speak degradingly of other people. In this case, the distinguishing characteristic is weight. It is still one of the traits that people feel perfectly comfortable mocking and degrading people based on. It really shouldn't be surprising that larger women and their admirers have adopted a term that seeks to overcome the negative stereotypes so strongly associated by impolite and judgmental persons.

Are all large women beautiful? Of course not, but we adopt the term because we refuse to be cast aside as unimportant or unworthy because of our size. Perhaps if this world we lived in did not seek to judge us so harshly, we would not feel the need to adopt these terms. As long as being overweight is still readily coupled with negative stereotypes such as laziness, ugliness, or lack of intelligence (all of which it currently is), then you will see terms used to offset those negative stereotypes.

I've never heard a large person say that they absolutely loved being large and were looking to get larger...

I've also never heard a smoker say that they were looking to increase their intake of cigarettes about a pack a day...

I wonder why that is...

Fat women aren't the only group of people that are stereotyped or made fun of on a regular basis. Groups like gays, short men, people of a certain race or religion, bald men etc are also discriminated against. Yet I don't see terms like 'handsome short men' or 'handsome bald men' etc used to describe them.

theonly, but I bet you have heard smokers saying they don't care to quit and large people saying they are happy the way they are. It's not always about more is better. Sometimes it's just about being happy the way you are. People who continue to smoke or don't lose weight have weighed the risks and benefits in their mind and find the risks of maintaining the status quo to be acceptable for them. That's their choice and there is nobody who asks you to assume that risk for yourself. Just respect that they are comfortable with their own risk/benefit analysis.

jf, really? You haven't heard the "bald is beautiful" groups, or terms like "African American" or the use of terms like homosexual as opposed to more derogetory terms? I'm pretty sure it's not new to adopt a term that has not been smothered in judgement and hatred.

Certainly not to the same degree as BBW. Calling someone African American or homosexual instead of some offensive slur certainly isn't implying that all blacks or gays are beautiful.

OP-Or anyone else interested. I have a BBW girlfriend that is a good woman that needs a boyfriend. She likes men that are relatively fit and is 47, intelligent, and stable. Let me know.

jf, you have a bit of a point there but when you take into account the terms large or fat have been synonymous with ugly for many years now, adding the term beautiful in serves to counteract the automatic pairing of the terms fat and ugly. I would also argue that, as human beings, we are beautiful in our own right. That beauty may not be obvious to everyone but there is a reason that even those who society would regard as ugly can find mates that look at them as if they were the most wonderful people on earth. Such is the power of love.

Juju, i had you down for liking the more petite woman for some reason. My mistake, i think it's cool you go for what turns you on as opposed to what the media and your friends deem to be right for you.

I tend to hear a lot more smokers who want to quit and a lot more large people who want to get smaller to be honest... the people I know that are okay with smoking and being larger still say if they didn't have to do anything they would prefer not to smoke or be large but they don't care enough to make the effort... which is fine by me...

I have nothing against either group, it's just an observation.

And just because someone is big, doesn't make them beautiful... and the same goes for skinny or average or a few extra...

People should like what they want, and not get offended when others want what THEY like either.

And as for the comments about objectifying people sexually... no sex, no race... it's pretty simple. The human mind was conditioned to pick people on ability to survive and continue a species with minimal loss... are you going to be the person who said the last 6000 years should be immediately removed by will alone from the species? Telling someone they are treating people like objects by saying they like a BBW is like telling a man he is treating all men as objects by being gay... silly at best!

BTW, for those who haven't figured it out yet, I love debates and I'm really bored at work so here I am. I know you can't hear my tone of voice here but I am enjoying the little debate. I always do.

the people I know that are okay with smoking and being larger still say if they didn't have to do anything they would prefer not to smoke or be large but they don't care enough to make the effort

I find this different than what I have experienced. I know several people that smoke because they like it. Why? I have no idea but they do. I would say most of the larger women I know do want to be smaller BUT, I also think that they are beautiful the way they are. I think I'm beautiful the way I am. My beauty is not a function of my weight, but a feature to itself. of course, I don't go around calling myself a BBW that often either except on a site like this where it would be wrong to label myself in any of the other categories.

Point taken. My sincere apologies. It was wrong of me to accuse the OP of objectifying.

At the end of the day you know what you like... ignore small minded comments.

Some of my male friends do have unrealistic views on what constitutes 'fat', and they are not exactly 6 pac guys, but they demand v. high standards on how thin a woman should be, its crazy.

However my other male friend always pipes up and says if they want to date a girl who has a body of a young teenage boy then they need to seek help! ha ha

No one should tease you, at least you have an open minded approach and are now not scared to go for what you like!

Do you take the teasing in a negative way? I ask because one of my girlfriends is a big girl, and when we're all out, she gets a pretty big chunk of attention from guys of all shapes and sizes. She's a pretty girl and also has one of those personalities that you can somehow "see" from across a room.

We (the group of friends) tease her with things like "Damn it....that hot piece likes women with some meat on them," when an attractive guy approaches her. She just laughs. She's as likely to say something similar shaped around some term like "bony a**" when someone she thinks is attractive is chatting with one of the rest of us.

I guess that as long as it's friends..I don't see the harm. If it bothers you, you should say something.

Arugula, good natured teasing like that is all in an evenings fun. That's one thing. I think for most of us it gets hurtful (at least until I grew a thicker skin) when it's beyond that. I've been mooed at, called a fat ass while riding my bicyle, and that type of thing. There are grown adults who think this behaviour is acceptable.

Of course, as I've gotten older and wiser, I realise that I appreciate them opening their mouths so we can tell the idiots from the rest without having to get too close to them, but when I was younger and not as sure of myself, it was pretty devastating.

as i said earlier, it's not just bbw's i'm attracted to, i have many varied tastes. also after saying that, i am not attracted to all bbw's, just like i am not attracted to all blondes, or all petite women. the only type, as i said, that i do not find attractive personally, are the catwalk model type, purely because i do not see thier bodies as 'womanly' because of the lack of curves, the very small chests, and boyish bodies

I was watching a new show the other night and was amazed when they put this woman's body up on a building in New York and they asked men and women what they thought about the photo. There wasn't one person that said she was fat. Men commented on her nice wrack and curves... women said "She's a real woman this IS what real women look like"

As a female I'm attracted to all kinds of guys.... I'll admit that I'm not really physically attracted to really skinny men...

Who cares if you like big girls? But if you were around my friends, you'd get picked on too. Then again we pick on everybody about everything. I do side with the folks tired of the BBW phrase. I never heard of it before online dating though. I read all the comments about why it's used. However, I tend to say it's more used as a 'you have to like me' attitude. But this isn't the thread to rant about that. To the OP, what ever floats your boat!

Some Big Bountiful Women have felt downtrodden for so long which is why it has gone the other way, and they appear to have an 'attitude.'

If more confidence is what some of them gain, then that's great. Some of them need the 'feel-good' factor so they stop feeling sorry for themselves.

Arugula I guess my question is why wouldn't an attractive guy approach her? and why would there even be a need to reference meat on their bones? I know I am kinda using you as an example here but I am a person much like your freind, I can walk in a room and its is weird that I get so much more attention than my friends! They never make comments like that and honestly I would be offended! I don't care if they are close friends or not! Your freind probably jokes with you cause what else is she to do? It is hard to be overweight in society today, even if you have lost tons of weight and feel good about yourself, there is generally someone there to drag you down even if they don't realize it!

Juju I think it is awesome that you posted this thread! I know everyone has a type, I myself have a wide range of "types" . It probably is hard to be teased like that though and I am sure guys are the worst at teasing in general when it comes to the opposite sex! I say like who you want, it would suck to pass up the possible opportunity to meet the girl of your dreams because your friends razz you a little!!

NO one should be judged by size or appearance.

Seriously, I know it's hard to believe, but people should be known by what they do, or contribute ... obviously difficult in this particular medium.

I actually do love who people ARE - regardless of what they look like.

Yeah I know- you doubt it. But seriously...

I am a larger woman myself. I watch want I eat, exercise and have a very fulfilling life. I haven't been thin since puberty. I think BBW is a much nicer term, than chunky, fat etc. Even in this post, people have used the term Chubby Chaser. I HATE THAT ONE. There are always lots of thinner people online in here, who just cannot wait to insult someone larger. Too bad stupidity, ignorance or intolerence were not something we could see in a photo. Those of you who say go on a diet and exercise, you make a valid point, but I bet you have never gone to a gym and participated in a aerobics class and have someone say "Oh my God, your so fat your making me want to hurl" TRUE STORY....or had a someone hit on you in a bar...though you did not invite him/her and them have you insult you because of your weight, or go to a restaurant and order a dessert and have someone at the next table come over, protectively put their hand on your shoulder and go "I don't really think you need to order that dessert, do you?"

The prejudice against larger people, especially in North America is rampant and I can only compare it to the extreme racism also seen in our culture.

That being said...I'll get off my soapbox LOL I AM SO GLAD THAT SOME MEN SOMEWHERE FIND ME HOT!!
