I always dug this one.

~Seawater begs the pearl to break its shell.

~And the lily, how passionately it needs some wild Darling!

~At night, I open the window and ask the moon to come
and press its face against mine.
~Breathe into me.

~Close the language-door,
and open the love-window

~The moon won't use the door,
only the window.

THE WIND, ONE BRILLIANT DAY

The wind, one brilliant day, called
to my soul with an odor of jasmine.

“In return for the odor of my jasmine,
I’d like all the odor of your roses.”

“I have no roses; all the flowers
in my garden are dead.”

“Well then, I’ll take the withered petals
and the yellow leaves and the waters of the fountain.”

The wind left. and I wept. And I said to myself:
“What have you done with the garden that was entrusted
to you?”

STONE

Go inside a stone
That would be my way.
Let somebody else become a dove
Or gnash with a tiger’s tooth.
I am happy to be a stone.

From the outside the stone is a riddle:
No one knows how to answer it.
Yet within, it must be cool and quiet
Even though a cow steps on it full weight,
Even though a child throws it in a river;
the stone sinks, slow, unperturbed
To the river bottom
Where the fishes come to knock on it
And listen.

I have seen sparks fly out
When two stones are rubbed,
So perhaps it is not dark inside after all;
Perhaps there is a moon shining
From somewhere, as though behind a hill–
Just enough light to make out
The strange writings, the star-charts
On the inner walls.

Lord, where shall I find You?
Your place is lofty and secret.
And where shall I not find You?
The whole earth is full of Your glory!

You are found in man's innermost heart,
yet You fixed earth's boundaries.
You are a strong tower for those who are near,
and the trust of those who are far.
You are enthroned on the cherubim,
yet You dwell in the heights of heaven.
You are praised by Your hosts,
but even their praise is not worthy of You.
The sphere of heaven cannot contain You;
how much less the chambers of the Temple!

Even when You rise above Your hosts on a throne, high and exalted,
You are nearer to them than their own bodies and souls.
Their mouths attest that they have no Maker except You.
Who shall not fear You?
All bear the yoke of Your kingdom.
And who shall not call to You?
It is You who give them their food.

I have sought to come near You,
I have called to You with all my heart;
and when I went out towards You, I found You coming towards me.
I look upon Your wondrous power and awe.
Who can say that he has not seen You?
The heavens and their legions proclaim
Your dread -- without a sound.

~~~Judah Halevi (1086-1145)
Judah Halevi was the greatest Hebrew poet of his time. Born in Toledo, the capital of
Castile, Judah studied with the famous rabbinic scholar, Isaac Alfasi. Since he lived at
the time of the first crusade, Judah realized the plight of his people. In his most famous work,
The Kuzari, Halevi foreshadowed the philosophy of Zionism and Jewish nationalism.
I have seen the eyes that lured the world.
A trace of kohl they would not bear.
And birds, today, have made their nests in them.
Why do you roam the jungles with thorns pricking your feet?
Your Lord dwells in your heart.
And you wander about in search of him.
I thought I was alone who suffered.
I went on top of the house,
And found every house on fire.
I boasted among men that I had known you.
They see your pictures in all works of mine.
They come and ask me, `Who is he?'
I know not how to answer them. I say, `Indeed, I cannot tell.'
They blame me and they go away in scorn.
And you sit there smiling.
I put my tales of you into lasting songs.
The secret gushes out from my heart.
They come and ask me, `Tell me all your meanings.'
I know not how to answer them.
I say, `Ah, who knows what they mean!'
They smile and go away in utter scorn.
And you sit there smiling.
If you treat the opposite sex with reverence
will you pay a price?
If you stop your fault-finding and covetous ways
will your earnings not suffice?
If you sit in prayer and meditation
will it cost a living wage?
If you trust the words of realized souls
will your boss forget your pay?
Is it a burden to pursue wisdom?
Do you fear the price it brings?
Tuka says,
Fools worry about the little stuff.
Don't they know? God brings everything!
You've got to be free to taste the bliss.
You've got to be free or nectar you'll miss.
You've got to be free to break through the sky
And enter that land where nobody dies.
You've got to be free. Yes, you've got to be free.
You've got to free, no longer enmeshed
In crazy identity with rotting flesh.
Throw away the madness
And embrace the gladness
It's time to be free. It's time to be free.
Revive your true nature as eternal spirit soul.
Make pure love of God your one and only goal.
Call in today and book your ticket
On the next flight to Goloka. Make sure not to miss it.
You've got to be free. You've got to free.
Yes, you've got to be free. You've got to be free.
You alone exist, I do not! O' Beloved!
You alone exist, I do not!
Like the shadow of a house in ruins,
I revolve in my own mind.
If I speak, you speak with me:
If I am silent, you are in my mind.
If I sleep, you sleep with me:
If I walk, you are along my path.
Oh Bulleh, the spouse has come to my house:
My life is a sacrifice unto Him.
You alone exist; I do not, O Beloved!
My hut is buried in the deepest recess of the forest.
Every year, ivy vines grow longer than the year before.
Undisturbed by the affairs of the world I live at ease,
Woodmen’s singing rarely reaching me through the trees.
While the sun stays in the sky, I mend my torn clothes
And facing the moon, I read holy texts aloud to myself.
Let me drop a word of advice for believers of my faith.
To enjoy life’s immensity, you do not need many things.
My eyes have developed black spots
Watching the path whence you may come
Blistered has become my tongue
chanting away your name
Separation pangs fill my begging bowl
Void is all in the two eyes
Anxious for only a glimpse delight
Waiting patiently day and night
All colors mitigate and moan
Discontent is the painful song
None else can hear this cry
Unless you, my Love, will
looted my flesh,
claimed as tribute
my pleasure,
took over
all of me.
Every word of every tongue is
Love telling a story to her own ears.
Every thought in every mind,
She whispers a secret to her own Self.
Every vision in every eye,
She shows her beauty to her own sight.
Every smile on every face,
She reveals her own joy for herself to enjoy.
Love courses through everything,
No, Love is everything.
How can you say, there is no love,
when nothing but Love exists?
All that you see has appeared because of Love.
All shines from Love,
All pulses with Love,
All flows from Love--
No, once again, all IS Love!
Drea: We are all children of God. No one is better than other.
I hope, you had a great vacation...seems you and your grandchildren
enjoyed the snow to the fullest. I do experience such joy and new experiences
in this snowy place. In particular, in the very early morning or in weekend
when roads are normally empty and completely covered with snow and
when moon is high during the silent night.
===================
My sense of self; and let it vanish utterly.
Take, Lord, my life,
Live Thou my life through me.
I live no longer, Lord,
But in me now
Thou livest.
Aye, between Thee and me, my God,
There is no longer room for “I” and “mine.”
The song that I came to sing remains unsung to this day.
I have spent my days in stringing and in unstringing my instrument.
The time has not come true, the words have not been rightly set;
only there is the agony of wishing in my heart.
The blossom has not opened;
only the wind is sighing by.
I have not seen His face, nor have I listened to His voice;
only I have heard his gentle footsteps from the road before my house.
The livelong day has passed in spreading His seat on the floor;
but the lamp has not been lit and I cannot ask Him into my house.
I live in the hope of meeting with
Him; but this meeting is not yet.
Remembering your smile and your silly ways
How they lit up my nights and brightened my days
Your giggles and jokes, the sarcasm too
I never thought I'd get over you
I see your face when I close my eyes
I can smell you on my pillow at night
I never wanted to believe the day would come
That you and I would forever be done
All you have shared with me in my life
I've grown so much and now feel strife
For all that I have left, the possessions and things
Cannot bring about peace or make my heart sing
Without you in my life continuing to share
I don't know how my heart I will bare
For you have touched my soul so deep
I'm not ready to move on...for now I must weep
Your smile, your smell, your skin, and your touch,
Live on in my memory, and provide me a crutch
It holds me up knowing now just how you cared
I just close my eyes and the feelings are there
It wasn't a lie, deceitful or wrong
There were moments where I felt I belonged
When I lay awake alone in my bed
I try to replace the noise in my head
I think of your warmth, your love and feel peace
Remembering all we've shared in those moments before sleep
I may be your first, but you're my first too
The first I have loved that's thrown me askew
For the first time I don't know how I'll move on
In the past it was easy...I moved...they were gone
With you I feel different so I must work it through
To figure out how to heal without losing you
I see myself in a whole new realm
You taught me to be loved now I'm at the helm
You see my dear Christian, I'm confident now
That you were on my journey to show me how
To allow myself to be loved without the need to know why
To teach me to believe that I can touch the sky
So thank you Christian from the bottom of my heart
For letting me go with a brand new start
Free of the worry, the pain, and the shame
For it is my worthiness of love that I can now claim
I've also have given myself the cold hard truth
About being a hopeless romantic... it's true
For within me, hope will always be there
That someday, someway, again we will pair
With that being said, ahhhhhh...a sigh of relief
To get it all out there, unburden the grief
I hope you will take these words to your heart
And know how I appreciated you letting me fart
When one settles into a state of desirelessness,
Then the self's flame is fired up.
A great man is done with deeds,
When his ties of desires are truly severed.
As the sun shines clear in a cloudless sky,
softly shall i wait here
time sliding like a calm sea
lovely thread..... so rare to find kabir!!!! I love this corner of the pond
to incline toward that
which inclines to me
i call hope.......
especially loved the way you handled the crude intrusion of a polluted mind....
Hello Silverswan, I am very glad to hear that you like the poems of this section.
I am also very fond of Kabir's dohas and poems. The poems and dohas of Kabir are so
simple but so profound with very deep philosophy which is not easy to find anywhere else.
Find another poem of from Kabir here.
===============
With mind immersed in Love, why should I talk?
Having the diamond knotted safe, why again I open the knot?
Empty scales at initiation are full, why measure again?
Rationality became intoxicated, by drinking without measures
Swan reaching the lake, need wander in ponds and puddles?
Your Lord is your inner Self, why seek him outwardly
Says Kabir listen my folks, I realized the Lord within - like oil contained in the seed.
The mind is a tree, the five senses are its branches.
Hope bears fruits and leaves in abundance.
Kanhu says : using the advice of Guru (Teacher) as an axe
cut off the branches
so that passion, desire or thirst does not grow back.
The tree grows in the water of righteousness.
The Guru (Teacher) is witness, the wise uproot it.
One who does not know the mystery
of this tree's growth and destruction.
fool is he to have to come back again and again
to this materialistic world to receive pain.
Drink the nectar of the Divine Name,
O human! Drink the nectar of the Divine Name!
Leave the bad company, always sit among righteous company.
Hearken to the mention of God (for your own sake).
I believe in you my soul, the other I am must not abase itself to you,
And you must not be abased to the other.
Loaf with me on the grass, loose the stop from your throat,
Not words, not music or rhyme I want,
not custom or lecture, not even the best,
Only the lull I like, the hum of your valved voice.
I mind how once we lay such a transparent summer morning,
How you settled your head athwart my hips, and gently turned over upon me,
And parted the shirt from my bosom bone, and plunged your tongue to my bare-stripped heart,
And reached till you felt my beard, and reached till you held my feet.
Swiftly arose and spread around me the peace and knowledge that pass all the argument of the earth,
And I know that the hand of God is the promise of my own,
And I know that the spirit of God is the brother of my own,
And that all the men ever born are also my brothers, and the women my sisters and lovers,
And that a kelson of the creation is love,
And limitless are leaves stiff or drooping in the fields,
And brown ants in the little wells beneath them,
And mossy scabs of the worm fence, heaped stones, elder, mullein and pokeweed.
---Walt Whitman (1819-1892)
