| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/7/2008 11:36:51 AM | No that is also true. here you go someonelikeyou,... for your pets health:
Grapes and Raisins: Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs. As little as a single serving of raisins can kill a dog. Onions: Onions destroy red blood cells and can cause anemia. Chocolate: Chocolate can cause seizures, coma and death. Baker’s chocolate is the most dangerous. A dog can consume milk chocolate and appear to be fine because it is not as concentrated, but it is still dangerous. Coffee, Coffee grounds, tea and tea bags: Drinks/foods containing caffeine cause many of the same symptoms chocolate causes Macadamia Nuts and Walnuts: Macadamia nuts can cause weakness, muscle tremor and paralysis. Limit all other nuts as they are not good for dogs in general, their high phosphorous content is said to possibly lead to bladder stones. Exception to this rule seems to be PEANUT BUTTER. However- always use Salt/Sugar free ORGANIC Peanut butter (sugar encourages cancer growth) free . Use only ORGANIC peanut butter as regular peanut butter has lots of toxins and is full of pesticides! Animal fat and fried foods: Excessive fat can cause pancreatitis. Bones: Cooked bones can splinter and damage a dog’s internal organs. Raw Bone should always be supervised as a piece can always break off and cause problems. Try frozen oxtails or frozen knuckle bones then take the bone away before the dog can swallow a final small piece whole. It's a good natural way to clean teeth too. Tomatoes: Tomatoes can cause tremors and heart arrhythmias. Tomato plants and the most toxic, but tomatoes themselves are also unsafe. Avocados: The fruit, pit and plant are all toxic. They can cause difficulty breathing and fluid accumulation in the chest, abdomen and heart. Nutmeg: Nutmeg can cause tremors, seizures and death Apples, Cherries, Peaches PITS and similar fruit are great for your dog - HOWEVER, the seeds of these fruits contain cyanide, which is poisonous to dogs as well as humans. Unlike humans, dogs do not know to stop eating at the core/pit and easily ingest them. It can also become lodged in the intestines and kill the dog in 24 hours with no warning. Raw eggs: Raw eggs can cause salmonella poisoning in dogs. Dogs have a shorter digestive tract than humans and are not as likely to suffer from food poisoning, but it is still possible. BEST to use ORGANIC EGGS if you do raw. Scrambled lightly is best! Salt: Excessive salt intake can cause kidney problems. Mushrooms: Can be deadly- never let your pets chew on mushrooms found in your yard. Only safe "food" mushrooms are shitaki, maitake and reishi. Xylitol: even a small amount can cause liver failure and death. Read more at here and in this article at About.com. Sugar and Corn Syrups. EVEN ORGANIC IS BAD! (this does not include Honey or Molasses though they should only be in small amounts and never for cancer dogs)
Food that most dogs can eat: Some “human” foods are good for dogs. Most of these are healthier than the boxed treats you buy in the grocery store. . This is just a small list of examples of foods dogs can eat, Any food that causes stomach upsets or digestive problems in your dogs should be avoided. Like people, some dogs cannot tolerate certain foods
Meats: Meats should be boneless and it’s best if the skin is removed. Some people like a RAW diet. Some people rather cook. If you cook meat do not over cook. Keep it 'rare' so you don't kill the enzymes. ESPECIALLY FOR SICK animals. However all Fish and Pork must be well cooked. Also note - totally Raw and cooked diets should never be mixed at the same meal as they digest differently. Skinless, boneless chicken breast Skinless, boneless turkey breast Fish: do not feed TUNA as high mercury content - be careful of small bones.
Do not feed 'cold cuts'. They are high in salt and nitrates. Can lead to kidney and digestive problems. WHO KNEW there were so many things to avoid EH???????? Since we are covering loving our pets and keeping them healthy for many years there VERY IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW and react to IMMEDIATELY. 1. DOGS,...... if they bloat/stomach swells rapidly get to a vet IMMEDIATELY. It signifies a twisted stomach and can be deadly within hours. Barrel chested dogs are most prone to this. It isn't a good idea to teach these dogs to roll over a lot or to exercise after eating. ( Poodles, Great Danes, Dobermans, Deerhound types etc) 2. Cats,...... unable to urinate or in litterbox crying. Stones can kill your cat very quickly ( sometimes in only hours) 3. Salt water,...... if at the beach dogs can and do get salt water poisoning. Causes staggering and blindness. oh and 4. and as noted before Antifreeze posioning,...... takes only a VERY small amount.

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/7/2008 9:09:29 PM | I swear to god she gets stoned off of something she eats though. Like she acts like she just smoked a pound of weed!
Either she smoked too much weed, or, maybe it might be too much cat nip in the weed, oh well, cats and dogs are different from each other, tho, and have different personality types.
And they are funny as hell in their own way.

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/7/2008 9:23:49 PM | I love and cherish my dog sooooooo much. She is my c0mpany and my protect0r. I rescued her from an animal shelter 7 years ago and my life would not be the same without her. She knows when I am not feeling well and will jump in my bed and cuddle with me.. she knows when I am mad at her for peeing on the carpet .... she is an awesome companion.
Now that I live alone she will not let anyone in my home without making a big fuss. This includes relatives (brother, neice, etc. ) I feel very safe having her with me.
She is very smart.. knows that after I brush my teeth I am off to work.. sometimes I take her with me, sometimes not.
She waits with baited breath for me to say... you stay here today or... ya wanna go for a ride...
I love her lots!
I do not even want to think of the day when she will not be with me.. I have had to put 2 of my precious dogs "to sleep" and dread when it is Bailey's time.
I have educated myself on what is good and what is bad for dogs, so Bailey is safe with me... You must if you want to be a good pet owner.
Cheers | |

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/8/2008 12:28:01 AM | Ya, dog are very much like human being, and they make very good companions. that are loyal to the core, what more could ask for in a pet, and companion, then a dog. | |

K so they say chocolate can kill a dog, that’s bullshit right?
For my lab it was BS. He loved Christmas and those Pot of Gold contents . He also had a thing for the tinfoiled wrapped chocolate balls. Never saw an animal eat so many "different" things in my life and never really had an effect on him.

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/8/2008 7:34:41 AM | I adopted my bassethound 7 1/2 years ago from a rescue shelter in Ontario... He had been horrifically abused and neglected..The previous owner got jail time as a result of the abuse and charged with animal cruelty. My dog now is the most loving and friendly, affectionate little guy. He has come such a long way from when I first got him. I can't imagine life without the little guy. They become such a part of your life and just like a member of the family... pink! | |

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/8/2008 9:58:32 AM | Ya, dogs and or cas do become an important part of your life, and they are, like a family member, and not just a pet.
I know that for one, my eldest niece has I don't know ho many dogs, however, however she treats them, like they are her own very kids, and she just loves them all to pieces.
So, ya, dogs or cats or both are just like family members, and nothing less.

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/8/2008 10:53:53 AM | pink .. i agree with you .. i have a feeling Max was abused a bit too .. not sure how much but there are some signs .. so i tread lightly with him but i tell ya the 7am pee time is killing me this weekend .. he tried to wake up my boys but they ignore him so he comes to me and i of course get up with him .. its just like having a baby all over again .. LOL .. but i am loving it .. he is a total ppl food eater but i am stricked about it .. he gets some treats but he is not allowed to beg or he gets none and yesterday for the first time he lifted his leg to pee on my desk and then he got a stern voice and man is he cute when you get mad at him .. him and his puppy dog eyes .. killer | |

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/9/2008 5:18:13 PM | K so they say chocolate can kill a dog, that’s bullshit right? - someonelikeyou
Apparently not. My sister's vet told her that it can kill dogs, especially dark chocolate. And I was told by a vet I knew in Squamish, that it can kill cats, too. Funny, I used to have a cat who loved chocolate, I had to make her quit eating it , after she lost 3 teeth!

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/9/2008 8:28:14 PM | | ^you are very interested in what kills what type of pet. You good google it. Chocolate is toxic for dogs but they have to eat LOTS! They develop seizures and then die. | |
|
| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/9/2008 9:32:27 PM | I don't think I once said anything about being interested in killing my dog. I remember asking about anti-freeze and if it kills cats. As for the other questions that was so I know what not to leave with in the dogs reach. As for the answers here I found some of them interesting as I never knew what certain things could do to animals. | |

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/9/2008 10:25:39 PM | Last week I had to put down our Golden, we had him for 9 years and oh the wonderful memories we will always have of him, RIP dear heart !
Today one week later, we have a new love. One we will grow with once again and make new memories. This time though we decided as a family to give back instead of always being on the receiving end of a dogs life. We adopted a rescue dog, one that came from the US..there are a lot of pets in trouble these days because families are losing their homes left right and center and have no where to turn with their pets.
Our new boy has stolen our hearts and our home..lol...and I am so blessed to have him in our family and to know we saved one from death row. He is a year old...how could you even imagine the senseless need to have these babies put down.
In the past I have paid high dollars to breeders for a dog, after this week, I feel its time to give back to those that are already here and need us .........

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/30/2008 12:04:35 AM | | Ok so why can't I find a guy like who's like my dog Sam: who wakes up every morning full of kisses, follows me around all day, staring up adoringly, crys when I run out to the car for only a moment....then jumps for joy like he hasn't seen me for a week when I return and is always there waiting for a hug or snuggle? Hmmmm possibly too much to ask from a mere human! LOL Truely a woman's best friend! | |

| Pets, how we love them so Posted: 6/30/2008 1:21:11 AM | Dogs can sense your mood and come to your rescue every time, pick your spirits up and keep them there. They only to be loved and they will stay with you forever. Maybe we could learn a few lessons from them.
Yup, dogs are pretty smart, and intellegent animals and pets, dogs are loyal to the very end, dogs are sensitive enough to know our moods, and how we feel, and in their own way, do their dog gonest way that they best know how to cheer us up, when they sense that we are feeling won and out.
Dogs, are also, the pet, that most closestly resembles a hmn being, because, in their own doggy way, they are a lot similar to human beings.
And if you think that they don't know, what you are saying to them, when you talk, ya had better guess again.
So, ya have to be very careful, of what you say around your dog, because, if they can pickup pretty fast on how we feel, then they can also pickup pretty fast on what we say.
DOGS, are NOT dumb, like some people may think.
