| NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS VS THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS Posted: 7/12/2008 4:38:57 PM | Hey Wiz look what I found dated: 9/15/07
http://www.bbnflstats.com/2007/09/belichick-and-sign-stealing.html
Sep 15, 2007 Belichick Cheating Evidence? One of the more apparent signs that a spy or corrupt official is cheating is that he is living a lifestyle beyond his means.
If Belichick's Patriots exploited unfair advantages in stealing signs from opposing sidelines we would expect to see some sort of evidence that they won games "beyond their means." By means I am referring to the Patriots' passing and running performance on offense and defense.
By successfully exploiting stolen signs, we might expect the Patriots to choose to use that advantage on critical plays--3rd downs in the 4th quarter for example. These critical plays would heavily "leverage" performance on the field to be converted into wins. In other words, the Patriots would win more games than their on field stats would indicate.
This is exactly what we see in the data. Year-in and year-out, Belichick's Patriots have won about 2 more games than expected given their offensive and defensive efficiencies, including turnovers and penalties. No other modern team has even come close to the Patriots in consistently winning more games than their stats indicate. Could those extra wins be due to cheating?
For a comparison of other teams' actual/expected wins charts, see this article. When I first discovered this pattern, I believed it was evidence of Belichick's in-game "genius." He was known for some unconventional tactics, such as going for it on 4th downs more often than his counterparts. (I'd go for it on 4th down too if I knew the play the defense would run.)
In a previous article, I ranked every head coach since 1983 in terms of how many excess wins they had above their expected wins based on team efficiency. Belichick's career, as a whole, was rather average due to his poor results in Cleveland. But by isolating his tenure with New England, his excess wins per season would rank him as the best tactical coach ever, with an extra +2.33 wins per season. The rest of the pack is far behind with the 2nd best coach at +1.83 wins per season. Belichick is a true outlier, at almost 3 standard deviations above the mean.
This is only circumstantial evidence of cheating, but it is evidence. And although hardly damning, we can be sure of one thing about Belichick--he is willing to cheat. If someone has crossed the line by breaking one rule, what makes you think he's not willing to break others?
On some other sites I've read some emotional comments rationalizing the Patriots' cheating. Whether other teams have attempted this or not is not relevant. Patriots fans and Belichick fans must accept the possibility that much of their success has been due to cheating. What I've done here has added weight to that possibility and quantified the potential scope of this scandal. At the very least, we would be justified in continuing to investigate the Patriots' methods.
Note: Some other examples of teams' expected vs. actual wins can be found here. Also, since this post is appearing on many other sites recently, I've posted a response to many of the excellent comments and criticisms over the past several months.
Makes a lot of sense to me 18 -0 ........... guess they did win more than the norm wouldn't ya say?

Now you bring me statistics after you say you don't believe in stats. Are you a compulsive liar? Mean what you say....They won the games because the Pats fairly excuted the plays....18-0? The Pats did this after the whole spygate thing.
All I have to say is watch this season.
By the way stop stalking me...Every post I make you are right there.

No I just found that article while you where arguing with someone on proof. Give me the proof you said. Yes they did have a perfect season after spygate because they still where cheating. It makes sense and that is my point wiether you hear it or not. Doesn't mater. They knew the plays Wiz. So it was easier for them to win knowing the plays. Its not to hard to understand now is it. And as to your stalking comments.... who is doing the stalking here. You have an answer for verything I say on here just as much. You have said that to me a few times now. I will see you on here being I am on here also and see you argue with everyone you do not agree with and I will not comment unless I have something to say in defense of those you attack. Kind of like your annoying uncle kind of thing lol.

You really don't know football and your posts show it again and again....If the Pats loss 2 games under their "expected given offensive and defensive efficiencies", then what? It would be OK. You don't know anything about statistics, so lets not go there.

The person that wrote it, still questions it. So you haven't brought any proof to the table.
This person made predictions based statistics, which he failed to be correct. He even went as far as mentioning, "Whether other teams have attempted this or not is not relevant." What does he mean it is not relevant? Only the Patriots should be targeted? It is obvious he was not aware about the other teams doing it because it was posted in 9/07. And I keep reiterating Jimmy Johnson from the Cowboys admitted doing it too. The same methods and stealing signals does not give you the upper hand. The offensive still has to excute.
I have been trying to look for this article from Phil Simms. Phil mentioned back 83 or 85, can't remember the year, when he was a Giant. They were in game and the coaches and players knew all their opponents defensive signs and still losted the game.

Knowing the other teams plays is one thing. YES they all do that Dizzy Wizzy. Butt as in your Ash. ...... Knowing the play they will use a second or two before the ball is hiked is another thing...... That is beating the system that is out right foul playing, cheating, crooked, having the technology to hear something they should not be listening too. Now you get the term SPY GATE.

Are you kidding me? They are one of the same JaD.... Reread what you just wrote and then take a moment to comprehend what you wrote. You are certainly thick in head. You act like you have all the insight in what occurred....The Patriots were accused of recording signals none of it was audio. Repeat after me "SIGNALS' not "AUDIO".
|
| NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS VS THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS Posted: 7/14/2008 10:43:52 AM | Why do you contradict yourself? First you say they are one and the same. Then you say "Signals not Audio" two different things? As its in your mind.
I will hunt down where I heard that from exactly. It was a close game the Pats played when they won in the last few seconds and the other team claimed they played as if they knew what we where doing. And there are even suggestions that they used illegal penalties to win games. Was someone possibly paying off the ref's? Happened in the NBA .................No way lol
You can not BS a Bs'er Dizzy wizzy
|
| NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS VS THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS Posted: 7/14/2008 5:45:49 PM | Then explain to me Obi-one?
Audio means sound frequency, which means they were not hearing the calls. They recorded signals and used it based on defense formation. This is what they were fined for....And if they did use Audio to hear their calls then fair should be fair, fine the Dolphins for doing too couple of years back.
It doesn't matter anymore....They have been fined and they are predicted to be in the Super Bowl again. Anything you say wouldn't even matter. Your experience in football is lacking very much.

You don't know anything about statistics, so lets not go there Then the Patriots record would have had 15 WHENS* and 3 Loses and would not have had a Perfect Regular Season

| NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS VS THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS Posted: 7/15/2008 7:00:50 PM | Hey Wizard! Are you talking out of your trousers again?
Looking into the crystal ball and seeing what will happen in the future!
As time gets closer to the Superbowl Sunday many dreams will have taken place in the minds of the Patriots and the Pats fans. As they all dream they see a victory parade and they are all proud and happy but as they are enjoying the confetti coming down from the skies. They notice in there dreams that it is the Giants sitting on top of the limousines. And they all jumped up in shock and soaked with sweat. Then on Superbowl Sunday as all the Pats fans are at the edge of there seats and sweating. Feeling OMG this can not be! Its the same as the nightmare I had. It just can not be, not the Giants! A perfect season coming to an end without a Superbowl Win. The nightmare is happening all over again I can not take this! But as the Sun rises after Superbowl Sunday. They will have all experienced Deja vu and see the reality of the Giants winning the Superbowl
Seems Moss, Brady and company will join T.O., Romo and Favre at the old age home many years later. Saying remember in 2007 the run for the Superbowl and losing to the Giants. They will all remember there dreams again on that day.
But I do think the Pats fans will be crying with T.O. after the underdog Giants shine on your parade.
Hey wizzie look what I found. My prediction before the superbowl was even played
