I'm a non-smoker. I am currently dating a smoker. It doesnt bother me so much because I growing up, 3/4 of the people I lived with smoked. Every once in a while it will bother my nose but its not hat big of a deal for someone used to the smoke.

I thought the Army makes one quit during basic? If you stop for 6 weeks, why did you go back?? Coming from a long-time smoker, really, it only gets worse. This last quit was so bad that I quite literally had a break-down in the middle. Smoking does more than cause lung problems. It gets hold of you, and once you're addicted, death starts to sound better than quitting. I'M NOT KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been quit for 6 months, and I still have to watch it that I don't go back. I smoked for 23 years. I was hooked pretty young. By the time I hit year 3, I couldn't quit.

It would be a problem for me. You probably can't spell yourself, but smoking makes you stink... your clothes, your breath, your house, etc. I can't stand to even stand by someone who smokes...YUCK!!

Besides that I can't breathe when I am around smoke. It would definately be a deal breaker for me. :modhammer:

Good luck to ya!

I hate a great friend who smokes like a chimney. When I leave her house, I reek of it. I reek when i come out of clubs.....ewww. It is just nasty. I've tried to date smokers before. But honestly kissing them was not fun. And I love to kiss so I will not ever try that again.

I used to smoke when my ex was a non-smoker. Then I quit and he took it up again.

Frankly I hate cigarette smoke and never want to be around it, but having been a smoker I also understand the joy it can bring to a person's life. I'd be able to date a smoker, as long as he was respectful about it and didn't smoke around me or leave me sitting in restaurants while he went out for a puff.

I'm in the army a ton of stress so smoking soothes me so what the heck!

Do they not have a smoking cessation program in the US army ? I am talking about a program that will pay for patches and assorted drugs ? They do that in the Canadian military.

If they do, then you are better off than most smokers that have to pay out of their pockets for this stuff.

I never was a smoker. The responses I am reading here are great.

I have dated smokers. I guess the thing is you need to look at it a few ways , first of all it makes your skin age, it makes you have health issues and ... well quit frankly go kiss your ashtray and tell me if you like it. It's a little diffrent if your a mild smoker and you brush afterwards but if your a two pack a day it's a huge deal. Have you considered other ways of soothing the stress? Maybe like working out, running or punching a bag. Just a thought.

When my little sister was in the army, the quit program during basic training was 'your @ss is grass if you are busted with cigarettes or smoking.' It was the same even for chocolate which is her addiction. She paid someone $5 to slip her a Hershey's bar, and then she was afraid to be caught with it, so she stuffed it down in hiding and then burned her wrappers. This was during the "kindler gentler army" of the Bush senior years. She said she was yelled at a lot with "Remember, this is the KINDLER, GENTLER ARMY!!"

Of course, this guy is past basic, but still, OP, you are so going to pay for this later.

As for me dating smokers.....I can't do it. Not because I dislike smoking. It's because I love smoking. During my quit I threatened to lick the smokers if they came near me just to get some sort of nicotine fix. If I kiss a smoker, my hands will be feeling around for where his cigarettes are. They will never be safe.

I can just see it now....
Me: Give it to me, baby.
Him: Oh, yeah, how about this?
Me: Ummmmm..... unless that part of your body doesn't mind being lit on fire, I suggest you change your tune. I want your CIGARETTES!!! But, if you insist, trust me, I'll make that fit in my cigarette rolling machine, and I'm sure I can get a few days of "organic" cigarettes out of it. :-p

Try meditation, or yoga, or running, or weightlifting, or something. Any of those instead of smoking would also help your PFT scores.
