should we really care, the problem with society is we focus on celebrities who are on the big screen and on tv.
dunno if 'should'. I don't.
A man died. Men die EveryDay, throughout the day , all day, all the time,all the world over, always have , always will.
He was an actor? So?
He was 'young'? So? Folks of all ages Die.
He was a Father? So? Fathers Die everyday.
Of Course it is sad that a child lost a father - to Death. Just as ... It Is sad when Any child loses a father - to Any'thing'.
I do believe i would feel more ~Emotion~ if BYRD were to *PooF*
I DO Soooo ~HOPE~ , that the gent had all his 'affairs in Order' - For his Child'S
Sake.

We don't even give the men and women who die in Iraq as much instant coverage... the man died today, for chrissakes!
I guess if you're not a perfect toy for the public imagination, you're not worth mourning.

In Australia he made many great iconic movies here with fellow Australian thespians before moving to the US to pursue his career. The death of any young person is tragic, especially one that has little children. His parents have been on tv here tonight and naturally are shattered, but retained their dignity and I hope our media respect this time however I have to agree with Davids post above. I have no idea how many beautiful young soldiers have been killed in the war in Iraq/Aghanistan but I do know its thousands and yet our media has ignored that and continue to ignore that
Heath had a great career and much going for him and I enjoyed the films that I saw with him in it, but at the end of the day, he didnt go to war and he didnt cure cancer and I think we need to get this into perspective. A lovely man yes and I do hope that his death was an accident and not a suicide as has been reported but the media saturation here today has well and truly been blown out of the proportion.
Its sad. Australia deserves to be proud of him and his achievements but remember young people do die every day in many tragic ways and that sadly is life. | |

It's crazy to see these people who have the world at their feet, die at such a young age.
It's sad to see so many young stars succumb to the stresses of everyday life. Seems to me that those who are successful and have the world at their feet struggle to find the strength to deal with real life. Maybe it's the world they live in and maybe they get lost in their roles as stars. I think those of us who have struggled with a lot of issues in life and learnt from life have more strength than those who don't need to worry about little things and go through life as if it was all a game. | |

People take sleeping pills. It's quite common. I have taken them before. May he riest in peace. I loved his role in "Brave Heart" and also in "A Knight's Tale". What a great soul... I am sorry for his fiancee and his family who he left behind...

Posted: 1/23/2008 5:40:38 AM | hi just to let u know i truely was a great fan of Heath, any being an Australian icon myself am truely sorry of his loss, anyhow he did not play in Brave Heart that was Mel Gibson, he did though play alongside Mel in the Patriot, Heath was Mel's son in the movie, perhaps thats where u r confused anyhow just to clear that up, but as i said he would definately be truely missed by all his loyal fans, friends and family God Bless him Rest in Peace my love .   | |

Posted: 1/23/2008 6:00:30 AM | I read with sadness this news on the web in the early hours last night (I'm in England) and it really upset me.
Just the fact that another young father has died.
We don't know if it was an accident or suicide yet but it's the fact that he was so very young and seemingly fit and did not appear to court a 'bad' lifestyle.
There is nothing but praise from his fellow actors about the conduct of this young man and his talent.
The irony is that the current films he has made but yet to be released will become even bigger blockbusters than they would undoubtedly have been anyway.

Posted: 1/23/2008 6:40:23 AM | At the end of the day, the passing of a life is an occasion to reflect on the impact that person had in our lives. Me personally, I enjoyed watching his acting because he was able to portray happiness, sadness, peace and all the other good qualities an actor who enjoys entertaining people can bring to the screen. I have never met Heath or seen much of what he was like in real life, but the few times I saw him interviewed it was enjoyable to watch. I'm not gay, I just take everyone with a grain of salt. If you want to insult me go ahead, but each to their own.
No doubt he had his enemies and so what if he did die from an overdose, how many times have we as human beings thought we had the right to give our opinions or judge the actions of others without knowing the circumstances.
I used to do drugs and nearly did O.D. on one occasion and it isn't nice. If on the other hand he did die from illness what sort of person could live with assuming he took drugs to take his life when infact an illness claimed it. How would you feel if someone close to you died because of illness and people assumed it was drug related?

Will I have those medications he used Diazapam is generic for valium it's actually I think a dangerous drug..I also have lorzepam which I've taken for 8 years they are very addictive you have to watch how you take them..I had a gal once took 2 diazpam while we were drinking went code, she almost died..I got her to the hospital in the nick of time, we were young then too..I don't think he took lorzepam I commented on it because I take it regularly and I think it's much safer than valium..Both drugs with alcohol will give you heart trouble though..I found the Brittney article in very poor taste..We have this world were all in and everyone is totally stressed it seems to me that the inpending pressure on younger people to do the right thing and serve their country....Has made many of them mean..That's my opinion I remember how it was for me, anyway people are using more drugs, alcohol, at least where I live drinking and driving seems to be up again..It's kinda like the 60's during the Vietnam war when there was alot of drug and alcohol use although some didn't seem to have the knowledge of the dangers we do today...But with all the stress factors people don't care..I know some old farts like myself will say that's an excuse, that excuse makes living acceptable. | |

They need to get out in the real world and know what pressure is .
War,poverty,hunger.......thats pressure....not being bloody famous and getting paid mega bucks for it. | |

Posted: 1/23/2008 9:32:48 AM | The latest is that the prelim autopsy results are inconclusive. It has been mentioned that he was exhausted and possible even physically ill(pneumonia). It can be VERY easy to lose track of how much medication you've taken when you are exhausted and ill. ( I remember having a bf take away my OTC cold remedy because he was afraid I was gonna accidentally OD simply because I was so freakin MISERABLE...a lot of OTC stuff wears off quick with me and he didn't know that)
Anyway, I always feel bad when someone I know( either personally or because they are a public figure) life is cut short by accident, misadventure, crime or war. Including those we've lost in Iraq and Afghanistan.

No one is ever prepared to lose a child, also he has a young child that has to grow up with him. When it is someone famous these people have to endure the public and media as well, most of us don't, we can do it privately. I have enjoyed his movies, it's a shame there won't be more. | |
