No one has proven he committed suicide and how, without the obligitory suicide note, would anyone ever know? I'm of the belief that it was a terrible accidental overdose of a prescribed drug.

Same here, he had so much going for him but living with pain is not easy nor without sleep.

You gotta take something for whatever you got antibotics can kill you too..."Don't do drugs.." Well not crack anyway of course the worse drug is alcohol..But we can't get that outlawed it's keeping the population down..In this case it seems the mixture might have got him always read your drug labels always..If he was recovering from some virus so his lungs were not up to par and he took a valium or even two, then a sleeping pill those slow down your breathing..And if he got them from a decent pharmacy it should say right on the label..Here on my Norco's aka vicoden from Rite Aide one warning states: Taking more of this medication than recommended may cause serious breathing problems, and it does..Then you go to sleep..I get all kinds of meds for what I have but I hardley ever take anything..I have asthma also so I know about those breathing problems..I find that my best medication is marijuana, and I don't use that much either..This does not sound like an overdose to me bad judgement maybe although not everyone reads the labels...If your pharmacy does not list warning labels go to one that does..

I am really quite shocked at some of the assumptions made on this and other threads on pof today regarding this young actors passing.
Nothing has yet been confirmed regarding the cause of death.
"Rumour" has it that is was ACCIDENTAL death caused by sleeping tablets, that is just one of the rumours. If it is true, anyone who has ever suffered with insomnia will know that when you cannot sleep you become desperate for sleep, it is easy to overdose on sleeping tablets when you are longing for sleep.

As for the person who mentioned that her friend had died and why it wasnt on the news, i am really sorry to hear of your loss but at the end of the day unless your friend was incredibly famous like Heath Ledger was, why would they be on the news?

NYtimes

It is a physically and mentally draining role - his Joker is a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy" he said cheerfully - and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.

"Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," he said. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.
Even as he spoke, Mr. Ledger was hard-pressed to keep still. He got up and poured more coffee. He stepped outside into the courtyard and smoked a cigarette. He shook his hair out from under its hood, put a rubber band around it, took out the rubber band, put on a hat, took off the hat, put the hood back up. He went outside and had another cigarette. Polite and charming, he nonetheless gave off the sense that the last thing he wanted to do was delve deep into himself for public consumption. "It can be a little distressing to have to overintellectualize yourself," is how he put it, a little apologetically.

Michael Caine: 'Heath Ledger frightened the life out of me.'

Michael Caine has been talking to Australian papers about Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker, and it's sounding real good. As quoted on Batman-on-Film, the actor journalists that the production's biggest worry when making the sequel was the handling of Batman's arch-nemesis The Joker, and the inevitable comparison that will be made to Jack Nicholson's famous turn.

"Jack Nicholson was the greatest Joker so, you know, how do you top that? Well, Heath Ledger's done it and he's extraordinary," Caine boasted. "He's gone in a completely different direction to Jack. Jack was like a clown figure, benign but wicked, maybe a killer old uncle. He could be funny and make you laugh. Heath is like a really scary psychopath. I did one scene with him and he was ready to go and had to come up in a lift and raid our place. I didn't see him for rehearsal and when he came out of the lift he was so incredible I forgot my lines."

If making a smooth and professional veteran like Caine forgetting his lines is not an accomplishment, then what the hell is?

"He frightened the life out of me," Caine added. "His Joker is going to be a hell of a revelation in this picture."

Hold em-up. While I have total respect for Mr Ledger, let us not compare him with Mr. Nick. I mean come on now, let us have boundaries.

The people judging this young man are picking on a dead man who was a reasonably good person and has a good spirit. How is that such a good thing?
And even if he died from drugs, that is a tragedy, not an excuse to trash someone, and there is no proof that he took drugs or that drugs were involved. We need an autopsy. People can actually be stars and die of other causes. They are just human beings.

Can you imagine the outcry if Heath Ledger's body was found next to a pile of Chinese herbs? The media outcry would be deafening, and nearly everyone would leap to the conclusion that the herbs must have killed Ledger. But when Ledger's body is found next to bottles of FDA-approved pharmaceuticals, there's hardly even a whisper about the deadly side effects of such pharmaceuticals (and the likelihood that Ledger was, indeed, killed by FDA-approved medicines).

The mainstream media is wearing blinders when it comes to accurately reporting stories involving pharmaceuticals. The silly presumption is that all pharmaceuticals are safe. They were approved by the FDA, weren't they? And yet FDA-approved pharmaceuticals kill twice as many Americans each year as the entire Vietnam War. There is no industry that kills more people each year than Big Pharma -- not even the war and munitions giants kill that many people.

So why does the mainstream media routinely give drug companies a "get out of jail free" card when all the evidence clearly points to the fact that Heath Ledger was killed by pharmaceuticals? (The answer: Conflicts of interest. Media is funded by pharma.)

Look at the reported facts:

1. There was no evidence of illegal drugs or alcohol at Ledger's apartment.
2. There was no evidence of intent to commit suicide (no suicide note, no message to friends, etc.)
3. The pharmaceuticals found at the scene were prescribed in Ledger's name (one bottle was over-the-counter, meaning it was also legally purchased).
4. Early autopsy results showed no evidence of illegal drug use or attempted suicide.
5. There was no evidence of foul play (i.e. Ledger wasn't murdered).

So what, then, killed Heath Ledger?

What would Sherlock Holmes conclude?
By normal standards of sleuthwork, this scene is hardly a mystery. It certainly doesn't require a genius to figure out the likely culprit behind Ledger's death. Once you eliminate all the things that couldn't have been responsible for his death, you're left with only one remaining likely cause: The two bottles of pharmaceuticals (antidepressant drugs and sleeping pills) found adjacent to Ledger's body.

Think about this for a moment:

Hmmm... there's no evidence of foul play, drug use or suicide. Heath was young and not suffering from any known cardiovascular health problems (ruling out a heart attack). Pharmaceuticals were found near his body. Heath obviously didn't just spontaneously die for no reason. There had to be a cause. Isn't it obvious that the most likely cause here was the chemical toxicity of the pharmaceuticals he was taking?

The media isn't interested in the REAL cause of Ledger's death
I find it amazing that the mainstream media appears to have no interest whatsoever in examining the chemical cause of Ledger's death. The question we need to be asking right now is: What killed Heath Ledger? He obviously didn't simply expire due to old age (Ledger was 28).

The mainstream reporting on this issue is limited to one word: "Overdose." It was an "overdose" that killed Ledger, the media keeps reporting. The drugs didn't kill him, the "overdose" did. An interesting twist of logic, isn't it? The drugs are perfectly safe because they're FDA approved, and it's all Ledger's fault that he's dead.

It's the same old "blame the victim" scam that's been pushed by food and drug companies for generations. It sure is convenient to blame Ledger for his fatality -- that way, nobody has to ask tough questions about the safety of the pharmaceuticals he was taking at the time.

The mainstream media, of course, is financially supported by the very same drug companies who profit from the drugs Ledger was apparently taking when he died. How's that for an Inconvenient Truth that the mainstream media (MSM) won't dare report?

No, blame the celebrity. Blame the victim and ignore the cause. Don't even consider the fact that pharmaceuticals are synthetic chemicals backed by fraudulent science and a corrupt Food and Drug Administration that actually goes out of its way to boost Big Pharma profits at the expense of human lives. Pay no attention to the outright fraudulent marketing and criminal conspiracy between Big Pharma and the FDA -- an organized crime operation that monopolizes drug prices, oppresses alternatives, censors free speech about natural medicine and allows drug companies to advertise dangerous chemicals on television like they were PEZ candies.

You can bet, as I hinted earlier, that if Ledger's body had been found next to bottles of Chinese Medicine herbs, the headlines would be far different from what we're seeing today. They'd be something like, "Chinese Herbs Implicated in Death of Heath Ledger" and everybody would be pointing their fingers at the herbs, calling them dangerous and "unapproved by the FDA." Well, antidepressant drugs and sleeping pills are approved by the FDA, and it seems they managed to kill Heath Ledger anyway. The fact that something is approved by the FDA doesn't make it safe. In fact, most FDA-approved medicines are far more dangerous than the non-FDA-approved natural alternatives!

Ledger becomes yet another victim of a deadly system of pharmaceutical medicine
Based on the evidence currently available, I believe Heath Ledger was killed by pharmaceuticals. I also believe the MSM is whitewashing this story, refusing to report the truth and instead attempting to blame the victim for this utterly unnecessary death.

If the available evidence changes following further toxicology studies due out in 10 - 14 days, then I will of course update my opinion on this. And if it turns out that Ledger's body contained heroin or other illegal drugs, then I will openly retract my statements that currently point the finger of blame at the prescription drugs he was taking. But based on the evidence available right now, the only logical conclusion is that Heath Ledger was killed by FDA-approved pharmaceuticals, and that means at least part of the blame rests with the drug companies that manufacture and aggressively sell those drugs. It's standard product liability reasoning: If cigarettes cause cancer, Big Tobacco should be sued. If pharmaceuticals keep killing people, they should be sued, too.

But you won't find that reported anywhere in the MSM. They won't touch that angle of the story. It's easier to just blame the victim and keep on pushing drug ads that promote the aggressive use of those very same drugs in children, teens and young adults. There are billions of dollars at stake in this marketing sham, and the media certainly isn't going to rock that boat by asking honest questions about Ledger's death.

That's business as usual in America today: Dangerous medicines, media lies and innocent casualties. Ledger wasn't born in America, but he died in America, steeped in deadly American medicine and American media lies. May he rest in peace. And somehow, may his death serve as a warning to all his adoring young fans around the world: Pharmaceutical medicines can kill you.

How sad it was to open up my MSN homepage and read about this tragic event. Here is a beautiful young man, in body and spirit, who seemed to have it all within his reach. I first saw Heath Ledger, was it 9 years ago now? in 10 Things I Hate About You...still stands as one of my favorite teen movies. This guy had a knack for chosing awesome film roles, and I am one who loved Brokeback Mountain, Heath and Jake were both amazing in this movie. The strong performance he gave left me in tears at the end of the movie, when he learns of Jake's death. It's such a great shame, as I believe we would have seen many more amazing things from this talented actor.
My heart and sympathies go out to his parents and sisters, and to Michelle and Matilda... you could see the love for that little girl everytime he looked at her. The film industry, and all the fans have truly lost a remarkable man ...I hope he is resting now, sleeping peacefully.

I still maintain that the grreatest production he ever starred in was the TV series Roar!.
I've always had a taste in these semi true programs and that was one of the best of them.

I was a fan of Ledger as an actor, and from everything I've read he seemed to be a decent guy as well. I was pretty shocked to read of his passing. It seems he poured everything he had into his role as The Joker, and both Michael Caine and Chris Nolan have praised the job he did with it profusely. It'll be a bittersweet experience to see his performance in the movie now.

should we really care, the problem with society is we focus on celebrities who are on the big screen and on tv. our lives have become so pointless, jim morrison said did you have a good life.....good enough to base a movie. whats stopping us from from being a celebrity in our own world?

[I understand your point, brother, but what you said is a bit offensive. Heath Ledger would definitely have agreed with you that there needs to be more of a spotlight on those who suffer in this world. He was a caring, introspective and deep soul. He may have been 28, but he was older than that, and people like him are just amazing. He had this great, down-to-Earth way. There will always be celebrities, but you are right that the average American is ignored by TV, by the politicians etc... It seems like they were created for the politicians and for the stars to be worshipped. That is not the fault of Heath Ledger. He did not create the system, and it doesn't change that he was warm-hearted, giving, and kind. He was well-loved and from a good family.

I'm not listening to anything the media is saying. Personally how he died is none of my business and it's not my place to judge.

It is unfortunate that it happened.

Yes, it will be bittersweet watching his performance. Sort of like whenever I watch Stand by Me with River Phoenix....or a home movie of someone you know who has died.

I read today that a baptist church is picketing his memorial service because of his role as a homosexual on Brokeback Mountain. I am disgusted that this church didn't get fined and all of the picketers arrested. How dare they do this to his family.

Heath Ledger was a human being who is no longer with us, first...with a family, a child. parents,siblings..and an actor second.
Celebrity status does not diminish the loss his family is experiencing. I was looking forward to seeing him age and grow into a Sean Connery type career. I send my thoughts and prayers out to the family. Especially his little girl who will never know her DADDY.
Rest In Peace.
