Hi tattooed,
Did you put that '37 Ford on the front of your VW?
Customized cars are cool, it looks good!
How hard was it to retrofit it onto the VW?
Thanks! Actually, there's a company that makes fiberglass kits. The previous owner put this kit on when his daughter rear ended someone.
Since I've owned the car, I've put disc brakes all the way around, a mild performance motor, a "freeway flier" trans axle, a ten inch front beam extension, 3 inch wider rear tires, 3 inch wider rear fenders with 1939 Ford tail lights, a new stereo and a ton of misc little things here and there..

1972 VW Beetle, with a 1937 Ford front end and MANY other little customizations tattooed, that looks great. I'm glad you had a pic of it on your profile.
Me, I don't know whether or not I'm my car...it's an '02 Mercedes AMG CLK55 Cabriolet. I got it (used) because I wanted a fast car, a convertible (since I can drive it topless most of the year), a four-seater (because I occasionally take more than one other person to lunch or dinner), and something relatively unique (there were only 800 sold in the U.S.). That left about four choices.
I will have it a long time, barring accidents. I had the car before it - a 1996 Ford Mustang "Mystic" Cobra - for over nine years, and the one before that (a 1990 Isuzu Amigo) I kept for about that long too.
If there is a common thread that ties all of them to me, it's that they are somewhat playful.

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 3:39:21 AM | Nathan,
Because you "choose" to drive what you drive, don't put down others for spending money on things that you think that money could be better spent elsewhere. For those of us with higher disposable income we can drive a vette, which may even get better gas mileage than a lot of the early 90's four cylinders. The LS1, LS6, and subsequent LS2 are some of the most efficient high power short blocks ever made. When I see claims of 150hp 4cylinders making 32mpg and realizing that the vette gets 28... Ill take the 4mpg to get their quicker and have a bit more fun doing it ;)
But I would never put someone down for buying a vehicle that they want be it a 3 cylinder Geo Metro, Honda civic, Chevy Corvette, or a Ferrari mondello.

I didn't put anybody down. I have explained my post several times. Did you read all of them? I refuse to comment on it any further! Enough said already!!

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 4:59:56 AM | What if one has more than one vehicle???
Does that mean I have multiple personalities?
Hmmm, could very well be the case....

I like the name Explorer. I think that fits me pretty well.! I enjoy playing with words and I have an inexpensive Lexus... maybe there is something to this!
Or maybe talk is cheap? ;>)

The very first 09 Corvette that rolled across the assembly line, serial number 001, just sold last weekend for $1,000,000 at the Barret-Jackson Auction in Arizona. Jay Leno gave it away, with all the proceeds going to charity. Interestingly enough, the guy who bought it also has in his collection the very first Corvette that was sold to the public in '53, serial number 003, as the first two of the '53 vettes to come across the assembly line went to GM executives...
Am I my car ?? Yes and no... I have a 2000 Kia Sportage w/115,ooo miles on it. The body is in good shape, but the mechanicals need some work. I bought it used in '02 and got a 5 year loan on it. Now I paid it off and everything mechanical on it is going south...go figure. It went from getting 17 miles to a gallon at it's best, to getting only 6-8 MPG now. As for me, I'm the exact opposite as the car...my mechanicals are in good shape, but my body could use some work... On the other hand, the car is a little messy and disorganised, just like me...
Got my eye on an '08 Chevy HHR though...just may have to get me that come tax refund time...hehehe

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 1:56:58 PM | The only thing my car (07 BMW 328i) and I have in common: We both were made in Germany and we like to go fast until the restrictor says that’s enough.
I think I am more like my motorcycle (05 BMW R 1200GS), than my car. It’s an all-purpose Bike to go were no Harley has gone before.

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 2:52:38 PM | I change cars regularly, because I don't keep them past 75k/miles keeps the resale value up and avoids having to deal with vehicle maintenance.
Currently I am in an 06 Eclipse that my friends all call the batmobile.
Does this mean I am Batman?
Cool.

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 3:38:52 PM | .... hmmmm... INTERESTING question...
I currently own a '94 Honda Accord that only goes in reverse, has electrical problems, needs breaks, tires, and a new something to make the airconditioner run again, so I'll have to get back to you on that!
On the other hand, it HAS been a good car... and I'm crossing my fingers that I can swing financing (and payments) on a newer Honda Accord ... I NEED a reliable car with as many trips as my boys make to the emergency room! (Sadly I'm not joking here ... one went through a window in the first 5 minutes of social skills camp on Wednesday... it's been a rough week. *sigh*)
Perhaps my Honda Accord represents part of me... but I'd love to own a fast little convertible sports car too!

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 4:28:02 PM | Ha Ha, I am with PolarBearKing....I have two cars, a hot little 95' GT Mustang V8 in very good condition and a 03 Jetta....so does this mean I have two personalities!! Yikes!! It's true I tell ya, it is true what they are saying about me, I DO have split personality!!

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 4:32:39 PM | My other car is an '03 Mustang convertible. Just a bit sassier than the GT. Yep, that's me. Both of us. | |

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 5:05:57 PM | Four doors (dad status), a better than average engine (currently have a super charger on mine and kinda like it), a sun roof, good suspension, and wide stance or low CG - and I'm good to go. While it' s not a head turner, Pontiacs like the Grand Prix GTP I have now, seem to work for me at the moment. Used to only drive German, and would again, but am finding I kinda like a non-descript American car sometimes too. Vanilla but good in the turns and on the highways. Decided to get one the day that I had a rental similar to it and had to rush the kids to the hospital that day...tough drive. 'course, I also miss my ol' toss it in the back pick-up of once upon a time ago, or even the suburban that did its duty a few years ago..... definitly not small and sporty though. | |

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 5:06:16 PM | I don't trade in my women after anything in particular, I *obviously* have not found the relationship that will last the rest of my life, but I have never dumped anyone to the wayside for petty foolish reasons.
I don't keep multiple vehicles anymore, the new house lacks the 7 vehicles worth of garage/parking space I used to have.
Which sucks actually. I miss having a optional vehicular space.

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 5:43:30 PM | Not exactly, that is if stereotypes follow... but I'm a huge "gearhead" and have been around and under cars for most of my life. As such, I'd like to think our choice in vehicle should somewhat reflect our personality, even if it's limited by funds, gas prices, size, number of occupants, etc. There are so many fun choices these days... and I'll leave it at that.
My car is an '06 Cadillac STS-V

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 5:47:17 PM | I have a 06 CTS and a Harley. I would like to think I'm more like my Harley but I'm somewhere between my car and my Harley.
I do like that 05 Mustang because of the stripes, H.P. and doors.
What I'm saying about myself with my car (I put a custom grill on it, see my profile) is I like to look good coming.

| Are you your Car? Posted: 1/27/2008 6:09:08 PM | My car is for getting from point A to point B. It is for transportation, not a statement about me. I'm with you on this Nathan. I am on my 4th car (I hang on to them until they die or are on the verge of doing so) and I'm in my late 40's. I drive an '05 Corolla that has 32,000 miles on it and was paid for after a year. I opted for practicality after having a flashy but crappy vehicle. I drive it primarily to work and it sits in a parking lot all day where it costs over $60/mo. for the "honor" of doing so. I prefer to use my money for other things instead of car payments and giving to insurance companies. However, I do have an appreciation for classic cars. Having the ability to restore and maintain them impresses me. | |
