| Weird sense of humour...What do you like Posted: 2/1/2008 12:58:27 AM | | I saw the last episode of Black Books and almost crapped myself laughing. I find though that I identify with Bernard maybe a little more than one should. Derek and Clyde (Peter Cook & Dudley Moore) crack me up as does Bill Hicks. John Safran is clever and canny and at times hysterically funny though his last series on SBS wasn't anywhere as good as John Safran versus God. Chris Lilley and Summer Heights High, what can I say..I'm a drama teacher! Love his work. Roy and H.G., the Chaser, John Clark (God we have some great comics) But seriously...Frank Woodley rules! This guy is a living legend. When he's on Thank God You're Here he's the only one that plays on the front foot (though Julia Zamira is pretty damn good too) ; he goes on the attack and totally foils the highly rehearsed ensemble cast, and he does it with good grace and comes across as very personable. I'd love to see him mix it with the Whose Line is it Anyway team. While I remember, did anyone get to catch some of Garth Merenghi's Dark Places on SBS? Funny stuff. Oh, and how can anyone forget the king...Grahame Kennedy. | |

| Weird sense of humour...What do you like Posted: 2/1/2008 4:34:10 AM | my humor tends to change with the way i am feeling, nothing offends me and if its meant as a joke and not taken to seriously.
But... sometimes the simple stuff makes me laugh, like, someone walking into something or just the way people look when they are concentrating ect ect.

| I love my humour... Posted: 2/2/2008 7:51:52 AM | I have learnt to adapt my sense of humour to whom I'm around. If it is with my mates well its related to anything crude or sexual. But it does depend who it is. Some people think I am weird as they probably dont get the thing I am trying to say but most people laugh anyway...and as for the lady that has lost her sense of humour in her early 20's, I hope you are kidding as you'll probably die from a heart attack from taking life too seriously if you are not careful!!!...Even though they are stupid I still get a laugh from 'scary movie'. Love a show called 'Blackbooks' as it is hillarious.... | |

That you aren't actually sure if I was kidding has brought me back from the brink of death, just in the nick of time. Just goes to show how varied our appreciation of humour can be.

| Weird sense of humour...What do you like Posted: 2/4/2008 5:28:35 AM | | I have a dry humour probably sourced from my english dad........Must say I'm loving Hamish "eye candy" Blake on "Thank God Your here!" He is very off the cuff..... Also occasionally the Americans drop the must have moral sitcoms (sorry guys) and come out with gems like their version of "The Office"........Also like "Extras".............and you have to appreciate the python boys.......".Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Know what I mean?” | |

| Weird sense of humour...What do you like Posted: 2/6/2008 7:52:08 PM | In response to Hilly's comment regarding Brit humour, yes it can be irreverent, tasteless and seemingly boorish at times. But that's what makes it good. I probably have a weird, nay twisted, sense of humour, as I find the more bizarre a situation or movie plot even joke is the more I can like it. I believe this is due to the emergence of that line of comedy which traces itself back to the Goon Show. It makes it's way through such programs as the Frost Report, Not the Nine O'clock News, after which time the ball is taken up by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore and later by the lads from Monty Python, (together and individually), The Young Ones and so it goes on.
And although much of that humour can be slapstick, a great deal of it is "very dry and quite dirty", as well as having "very sarcastic humour too". I am not a Brit myself but I was raised on Brit humour and have travelled there on many occasions...Just lerve it the Country, the humour, but not the weather.

| Weird sense of humour...What do you like Posted: 2/7/2008 7:36:10 AM | I can laugh at most things however try as I might I cannot see what is funny with Paedaphile jokes. No I am not a victim, however it that is one area that I really find hard to see any humour in.
It has taken me a little while to respond to these two posters and now the posts are back a page, I guess I will be hammered now for lacking in humour and thats ok but child molestation is not. I think making light of it is very wrong and just felt like making a point as I think most here just ignored the comments.
I did like that "suckmytoes" profile someone suggested, I wonder how many dates she is drawing ha ha? (on a lighter note)

I think the point the earlier poster was making was that he finds humour in the taboo. The topic is "weird sense of humour" so the confession was made accordingly about enjoying a laugh at a joke that is about what is, in fact, a very serious or grave topic. Society sometimes says we don't have the right to make jokes about certain topics, and so there is a shock value associated with pushing those boundaries. Perhaps he enjoys the simultaneous conflicting sensation of feeling both shocked and amused...contending with the ingrained wrongness of it as he digests the humourous element that has been applied.
I know that when I read a joke that same poster had put in one of the jokes thread, I reacted with an involuntary intake of breath, then laughed, then felt a bit guilty for laughing, then laughed again. When I told the joke to a friend I saw him experience the same sequence. So yes, it is a rather disconcerting style of humour that can very easily offend... and I am sure you are not the only one to not like it.
But it's kind of interesting where people draw the line on what is taboo. Generally we find it hard to laugh at what we ourselves are not comfortable with. You've said paedophilia is out of bounds for you personally. What about jokes about Princess Diana after she was killed? Jokes about 9/11? Hiroshima? Hitler? Michael Jackson being a child molester even though he has not been convicted of any crime? I am curious as to whether you might have ever laughed at an irreverant joke about any of those serious/grave topics? What about the jokes that says a guy with no arms and no legs in a pool would be called Bob? An epileptic in a pile of leaves would be called Russell? Are these really making light of people with missing limbs and epileptics? I think it's quite interesting to sit and think about what we ourselves do laugh at, and then wonder why each of us sometimes get uncomfortable and decide something "goes too far". No doubt we all do it, and I am not saying there is a right and wrong place to draw the line...only that it must be quite subtle... and that we seem to be a contradictory lot at times, us humans.
It should be understood, I think, that joking about what is in essence a serious topic doesn't automatically mean that you don't see the seriousness in the topic, nor does it mean you are incapable of discussing the topic in a serious light. Cancer is decidedly unfunny, but I have heard some funny cancer jokes from people who are in the midst of having chemo.
This post is entirely too serious for this thread, so I shall remedy that by adding this...

| Weird sense of humour...What do you like Posted: 2/9/2008 7:41:47 PM | In reply to Naamah, Totally agree and very well said....It was funny because when I read Wayne's post I agreed....then I read your's and agreed more.....there are jokes going around ATM about Keith Ledger.....they 're not funny at all....just too soon after it happens is not acceptable to me....
Anyway this forum needs humour so I have a tasteful joke for you all.... Little Johnny is in class when his teacher decides it is time to discuss 'Self Esteem'..."Class" she says, "I'd like you to stand up if you think you are stupid"......Only little Johnny stands up..."Oh Johnny" says the teacher, "do you really think you are stupid?"... "No miss" says Johnny, "but I hate to see you stand up all by yourself!"......
Just one more....What's red and hangs in an orange tree?.......A stupid strawberry...
I thought it was funny...

| Weird sense of humour...What do you like Posted: 2/11/2008 2:03:47 AM | | I remember my first clarion tape player in my car... You know what I used to hate? I would be singing Bohemian Rhapsody at the top of my lungs, pull up at a red light and all of a sudden the tape would jam... Singing in a voice that makes dogs howl and people laughing at me is not a pretty sight..... My shrink says that I'll be over it soon,it helps to talk about it. | |

Yes Naamah it's called "shenanigancantumanamnesis" it affects approximately 87% of the worlds population. And another interesting fact is that 48.2% of all statistics are made up on the spot!!
