| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 5:46:18 PM | I would prefer they didn't like me and stayed away. I won't sleep at someones house that has animals in their bed ewwwwwww and prefer them to keep their shedding hair and drool off my clothes and smelly selves away. Also out of the kitchen...no drooling while I am eating (barf) actually drooling dogs would be a deal breaker for me if they were even allowed in the house. | |

I doubt that there would be very many people who get get rid of their beloved pet if their love interest did not like their pet. People view pets as family members and rightfully so, they are not disposable.
I know if someone did not like my dog, I would not get rid of my dog. I love my dog and he is a good dog and has a good judge of character about him so if he did not like a person there would be a reason why.
I think I would try and do what I could for them to get along but if it came down to it, then the dog stays and the other goes.
Sorry if it sounds harsh.
Exactly. Change "dog" to "cat", in my case.

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 6:02:29 PM | Well the thing is pets can sense better than people. Case in point: my friend married a guy she picked up at a singles event. Her jack russell hated him on the spot,,,would bark and growl everytime he touched her. One day she came home from work, husband and furniture gone,,,dog knew best,,,, | |

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 6:20:52 PM | I have 1 dog, 1 horse, and 4 cats. I understand that not all guys give a hoot about horses, but my dog is a lovable/loving golden retriever, and my cats--2 of whom are very friendly -- are just goofy.
Stories:
#1 My friendliest cat is a big gray male, who runs to greet all visitors with a purr and a cuddle. This cat once took to hiding in a closet every time a certain male friend of mine came over. The cat was right--the guy was a pretty damaged...and things between us ended on a sour note. The Moral: Listen to those who care about you when your choice of partner makes them worried or sad.
#2 I heard about a woman whose horse did not like her fiance. He wasn't too keen on horses, either. One day she was grooming the horse, and despite her warnings, the young man made the mistake of standing directly behind the animal. The horse pinned its ears, took aim, and kicked the guy right in the chest. They say the guy never felt a thing, and fell dead on the spot. The Moral: Don't stand behind a p***ed-off horse!

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 6:46:03 PM | Ok....gal's c'mon......a man or my dog or cat?? Heck ya...I will find a nice home for my pet...as much as I love them both....but hey...more than likely the man is going to live longer and being that I am looking for LTR.....and the man can satisfy "my needs".....I would have to say goodbye to the animals....I must say I can deal with a man scratching his cro___than a dog scratching flee's...besides I would much rather put the toilet lid down as to pick up poo.......UMMMMMM I love the smell of a man.....OK ...back to the q.....If a man has a problem choosing between me and the pet...then I am outta here......If the pet doesn't like me "O Well" I hate it.....Angel | |

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 6:57:50 PM | If my pets don't like you...there's a damn good reason for it.
All BS aside, dogs have an uncanny ability of sniffing out trouble.
Cats? Well, they're 1/2 in and 1/2 out of our dimension anyway (per Keanu Reave's character in "Constantine") so I learned to read their reactions to people as well.
Neither have let me down, if I paid attention. Bad vibes only manifested themselves as a result of ignoring their instincts.

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 7:50:45 PM | I have a****r spaniel who will be one year old in May.
Every time one of my male friends comes over....the dog pees on him.
Does that mean he doesn't like him, or does my dog find him to be familiar "territory"?

they are pets for gods sake they aren't human
yeah they're usually better than humans....
if it's that big of a problem there is *usually* something more going on. A lot of pets can act freaky initially with a new person but warm up after time.
my cat is an attention wh*re so I never have this problem thankfully, I did date someone allergic to cats and when he was over, my cat was moved into the spare room ,with fresh litter/food /treats and toys - he was no worse for wear.

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 8:23:46 PM | I have two very affectionate, friendly cats. VERY sociable, intelligent and They love me...and usually love the guys I meet. If a guy is allergic, however, and several have been...it doesn't work. Sigh. Just the way it is - a few have made very kind and concerted efforts to deal with the sneezing over the cat fur, but after a couple of months it's obviously a problem. Some things are not meant to be. Would you really recommend I toss someone I'm emotionally attached to and responsible for, in favor of someone I may be attracted to...but don't really know yet? DO be serious.
Do you REALLY think I'm going to give up my pets for a guy after 2 months? What happens in 6-8 months when he mysteriously vanishes....get new cats????Fahgeddaboudit.

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 8:30:43 PM | indigo rose ~ My neice had a parakqeet ( little bird) he took shower with her ~ he was the most people acting little fellow ~ walked and flew about the house ~ he enjoyed his cage ~ he could let himself in and out ~ evening time when he went to bed ~ if you were slow to cover his cage ~ he'd tell you about it. ~ the whole family cryed when he died.
Now she has a house bunny ~strange ~ cute little fuzz ball ~ grunts, ~ loves his ears rubbed back ~ (just back not forward) put him on his back and he goes to sleep in seconds. Independent little bugger ~ he's got to come to you ~ you don't go to him ~ that just won't do! funny! ~ not a dog ~ not a cat ~ a bunny ~ dar

i ask you????......... what kind of a human being would do such a thing to their loving pet..
I guess this can be called pet compromising?

don't fret I don't think any one is going to ask you to drop your cats off at the shelter.

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 8:38:08 PM | If my dogs don't like someone they are usually right on. I would never give up my pet for anyone, they are a part of family. They are loyal, caring and damn fun, how do you turn you back on that. I agreed to take care of them for life, they came first! If that makes me a creepy pet person, so be it! Now the cat hates everyone but I still wouldn't get rid of her because she leaves me headless chipmunk and that is love! lol
If you want to win a pet over..bribe them often! Watch the movie As Good as It Gets , with Jack Nicholson he fed the dog bacon and it loved him..wow I'm referencing movies, I need to get out more lol.

well I prefer to call it life saving or preventing anaphylactic shock but call it what you must
I'm not dating the guy anymore either, so I guess the kitty did prevail!

| What if their pet doesn't like you? Posted: 1/27/2008 8:56:07 PM | I was going to send a message to someone, only to read that they had pet allergies. As much as I thought there might be some compatibility, I would like to get several animals (eventually a dog and maybe a couple other cats and a few ferrets) in the future, so that'd be a problem. I do have one cat right now, although at the time I was going to send the message, I didn't have him.
In any case, I don't think I'd have any problems with someone's pets. Most generally seem to like me.

That doesn't make them disposable. If someone is going to adopt one in the first place, they should be prepared to take care of it. There are also those who aren't happy without animals around. If they're stuck in a relationship where they have to choose between their pet and their partner they probably aren't going to be happy one way or the other, and getting rid of a pet isn't usually something you can take back after **** goes sour.
