My cat, I guess is abnormal because she only eats cat food. I have dropped human food, but she won't eat it. I also close off my counter so she doesn't jump up on there.... that's just very unsanitary for a cat to walk where food is placed and stored.

There is such a long list of food products that are actually very poisonous to most cats and dogs and I have known of someone's dog that died from eating pork.

My cat likes to eat the ends off of Q-tips. Because of this I have to always keep the bathroom door closed.

I had two dogs as a child. Chaunte ate crayons. Yes, I said Crayons!!!! We could not sit and color in the same room as this dog. We also could not leave our crayons out in the open. We stored them in a popcorn tin on top of the refridgerator so she would not get into them. On the many times she did get into our crayons and eat them, she had the most colorful poops ever. They looked like works of art out in the snow! You could see them from afar because they were so bright!

My roommate's dog is a Lhasa Apso named Suzie. She is a little princess. She is very intellegent and knows the names of all the foods she likes to eat. She LOVES to eat omlets, fried rice and lemon cookies. Also, she's picky when it comes to french fries as she will only eat McDonald's french fries. Right now she lives with grandma who besides herself on what to feed this little princess. She won't eat regular dog food there because grandma hasn't put her foot down and made her eat it. So grandma has turned into Suzie's personal gourmet chef and Suzie has turned into a heffer!

My cat loved tuna - but it had to be the cheap one... I would have to lock the kitchen door because she would instinctly know when I would be taking a tin out to make a sandwich... she would meow until she got her half...

But it was great for calling her before I left for work - I would rattle a fork inside an empty tin and she would come flying out of nowhere as soon as she heard it - felt a bit guilty when she realised it was empty, but she fell for it every time.

Well, I tried being a good "parent" and bought my 2 bichons high quality dog food that was all natural and had no corn, etc. They'll eat it, but they'd rather have vegetables and meat from the table. They like for their dog food to be mixed with a little cottage cheese and yogurt.... they love fortune cookies..... they love all greens (turnips, collards, cabbage)....they love beans (pintos, baby limas, english peas) .... and they have cereal with me every morning for breakfast. Needless to say, one is a little overweight but the other is still kinda scrawny.

^^^^ Apparently table foods like that are acutally good for dogs. Well maybe not the fortune cookies. Genrally if you get good quality meat though it's not processed (as in steak, chicken etc that doesn't have anything done to it, not the frozen pre-packaged stuff). I was watching a documentary on pet food the other day and several vets who specialize in the dietary needs of pets reccomend a raw foods diet, but if that can't be done to supplement the dog food with table scraps of non-processed food (so like cooking a few extra veggies without sauce or taking a small piece of steak or chicken and cooking it without seasoning)...

We heard from a vet that meat isn't good for dogs. It's hard on their pancreas

I have a friend that tamed a feral cat that he found at a cow hide processing plant. The cat will not eat chicken or beef if it's offered to it, but it goes nuts over beef jerky. It also likes peanut butter cookies. Nothing else, cat food, beef jerky and peanut butter cookies. Animals are cool.

I actually talked to my vet about some of the things that they like. Cottage cheese and yogurt are good for their digestive and urinary systems. The raw vegetables are fine, but there are a few foods that are off limits: chocolate, grapes, raisins and onions. As far as the fortune cookies...they're only for special occasions...lol. One thing that they absolutely will not eat is peanut butter; I thought dogs generally loved peanut butter. My vet told me "if it's good for you, it's good for them"....which is fine, except I don't do anything with heavy sauces or spices, etc.

If I told you what my dogs have eating, you would vomit, because this is one of the things they have eaten.

Believe it or not, even though dogs have a great sense of smell, they have only about one third to one fourth the amount of taste buds that humans do. That's why they are often not picky about the tastes of their food, but more the textures and smells. About the only taste that tends not to agree with most dogs is bitterness. Most dogs despise it. But then again, some don't really care.

As for cats, I am not sure how many taste buds they have.

My iguana could quite literally kill for Spaghettios.
My cat is strange in that the only thing she will touch is diet kitty food. She won't touch any kind of cat treat or anything else. Well, unless you count licking the iguana.

As a dog trainer I have found that most dogs will do anything for cheese. I always have little chunks of cheese in my work jacket pocket even the fussy dogs seem to like it.

My late kitty loved peanut butter - but only if I let her lick it off my finger. She also enjoyed popcorn and potato chips. She would sit on the chair beside me at meal time, begging for scraps of meat or corn.

The kitten I have now loves yogurt and tuna water, but will not eat any table scraps. She will eat peanut butter, but only if it is on a dish. I recently left an open bag of jelly beans on the kitchen counter and caught her chewing on a few that she had knocked onto the floor.

To the poster who mentioned once having a cat who liked to eat tinsel. That is very dangerous for a cat as it can get caught in their digestive tract.

Don't throw away that apple core! My boxer used to drool the whole time I would work on an apple and would quickly dispense with even the laregst of cores with one or two gulps.

I had a rabbit named Brandy that loved TUC crackers

My old cat Tigger loved cheese...you couldn't unwrap it without him sitting there begging for some. He also seemed to think that whenever I used the can opener it had to be to open a can of tuna. Even if I was opening a can of Chef-Boyardee, I would have to show him what it was to convince him that I wasn't hiding tuna from him. I miss that cat. :-((

My present cat Layla loves cream cheese

I had another rabbit named Tiffany that loved McDonald's french fries

My old budgie Peter used to love orange juice. This was all good until he got stuck in the glass! He also loved anything to drink in general. This was fine until he accidentally got drunk off my Mom's sprite and vodka....nothing funnier than a drunk budgie!

Geesh....I've had a lot of pets

So I made a wee mistake today and left some food on the table, which the cat ate. (The honey garlic sauce from dinner). It made me think of all the other wierd things he's eaten and all the weird things he likes to eat. I think the wierdest is probably the japapeno peppers from the nacho cheese (He loves those!). Also made me wonder what weird food everyone else's pets eat!

That's not so bad compared to what I've seen. I've seenpets that eat other pets' feces.

I would hope they dont have very many taste buds considering the places they lick
