| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 2/1/2008 2:07:09 AM | My dog used to eat anything that would fit in his mouth.
Was like having a tiny vacum cleaner following you around grunting like a pig when it walks.
Someone accidentaly droped chocolate covered coffee beans near him, there probably didnt even hit the floor befor they made it to his stomach... he went from puppy to hurricane in 3 seconds >_<

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 3/17/2008 12:44:41 PM | | Found a new food my cat likes: raspberry chocolatinis! (Made with creme de cacao, raspberry vodka and milk). Let one sit on the coffee table for all of a minute and he was right in there drinking it up. Fortunatly I caught him before he drank too much. I doubt he was drunk and I'm pretty sure the creme de cacao won't harm him, especially in the small quantity he got. Made me remember too that my old cat used to love to lick the condensation off a cold glass, especially in the summer! | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 3/17/2008 2:06:41 PM | I had a cat who loved chocolate pudding and fudge bars. Popcorn and iced tea. And another cat that likes potato chips. We cannot leave food unattended in our house. The cat will get it if you turn you back a minute. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 3/17/2008 3:05:02 PM | Dogs and Cats shouldn't be allowed chocolate... s'poisonous for them. Before I knew this, I'd given chocolate to dogs [j00 kan't rezist mah puppie eyez!!!] and never had a problem with it...
My pet rabbit was named Biff. In addition to his rabbit kibble, dry alf-alfa, and raw baby carrots, sometimes I would give him a candy called "Real Fruit Gems." These are gummy candies made with fruit juice. He seemed to dig them...

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 3/17/2008 6:00:33 PM | I'll be the boring one I guess. LOL My dogs don't eat anything "weird" because I don't allow it. They get a variety of food, raw meat (bones and all, and organ meat), eggs, vegetables (specific kinds), kibble (Canidae), and dog treats (biscuits, rawhides, bully sticks...etc).
Just be careful what your pets are eating, some foods are toxic to them. In most cases it takes a specific quantity to seriously harm them, but even in small quantities it can upset their stomachs and/or cause vomiting, diarrhea or make them fatigued. Obviously small breeds or animals the amount needed to seriously harm them would be less than larger ones.
For dogs specifically, foods to avoid are:
Onions Garlic Grapes Raisins Prunes Chocolate Cooked bones (raw is fine) Corn Yeast Dough Macadamia Nuts Tomato leaves and stems Spicy foods
For cats, not that it's necessarily toxic, but they have absolutely no need for grains in their diet what-so-ever. Feeding food that has no grains in also gives them a lot of spunk. LOL Most cats are pretty lazy and sleep for the most part, mine used to. I started feeding them Innova No Grain, and they're like kittens again.

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 3/18/2008 3:39:05 AM | my cat would kill you for a cantalope. all my cats like the vines from the grapes. in fact, they treat it like it was crystal meth. aladog and alacat, here i come.
my dog should get a job scooping kitty litter. ok, we won't "go there". but, even worse than the food habits, is that today my cat went and pee'd all over the stove burners. i forgot to replace the pheremone diffuser. four hours and two people later, i now have a clean stove and no cantalope for the next few weeks as a consequence.
ps how about the food strikes? they like what you buy, so you buy a case of it for a discount. then, they change their minds and try to cover it all up and start howling! there the trick is to have your neighbor feed your cat and you feed theirs. my neighbor swore her cat did not like fish. but he'll eat it at my house, when she's not looking.

My dog will eat almost anything. Absolute weirdest thing that my dog eats??? Cat poop...
WTF is up with that? --Brandon

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 4/1/2008 11:05:20 PM | My last cat only ate mangoes, blueberries and an occasional still living animal. No cat food, or purchased meats for her. Live fish, that she would only eat if she caught it out of the fishbowl herself, was the staple of her diet. That and whatever cheap rodent I could buy at the pet supply stores. She went batty over blueberries. I took her out with me to a wild patch, and I just made her day...
Had a cat as a kid who loved cucumbers and potatoes. Would steal them from the garden. This cat's litter mate would only eat snakes in the summer. Another cat who only liked baked goodies. Like pies and brownies. And Tim bits.
As for dogs, they are vile creatures! Eating manure, their own even. Ick. I'd never let a dog lick me. I don't care about the whole cleaner mouth than a human spiel. Anything that eats poop is not getting near me with its mouth.

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 4/2/2008 6:04:15 PM | Cheese. Any kind of cheese. My dog can be fast asleep on the couch, if I open the fridge and so much as touch the cheese, even the slices that aren't really cheese at all, as soon as he hears the plastic crinkle he's on his feet and heading for the kitchen, sometimes with his eyes still closed. His other favorite is peanut butter cookies. While I'm mixing the ingredients, he's right beside me, probably hoping I'll drop the bowl. When they're baking, he sits in front of the oven like the people in those rising crust pizza commercials. When then come out of the oven, he guards them. I've seen him pass up a hamburger for a peanut butter cookie. And this is a 6 yr old male pitbull, the supposedly "ultimate killer dog". Very strange animal. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 4/2/2008 11:25:42 PM | My step-dad is a shrimper, and used to take one dog we had on his boat (she was just a Shihtzu, so she didn't take up much room ) . Once, he got some crawfish from somewhere and it was too spicy for him to eat (and he can handle some REALLY spicy food that even I can't handle--like that green sauce used for...sushi, I think. ) .
He set the bag of crawfish on the floor of his boat, and doesn't pay attention to it..till a little while later, when he saw the dog head back towards it a few times. Turns out she was actually sneaking crawfish from the bag and eating them. She LOVED spicy food--we didn't think she'd be able to handle food that spicy, though.
My sis's cat loves uncooked shrimp(you'd think she was starving with the way she begs for them. The big eyes, the "pity me, I'm starving!" meow, etc lol). , but isn't interested in it at all if it's cooked.
And for some reason, any dog I've had or met LOVES cheese.

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 4/3/2008 11:41:11 AM | Well, I don't have a pet, but I have a tale:
It was the morning after a party at a friend's cottage, and one of the guys had gotten sick on the doorstep the night before. He was told the night before by the owner to clean it up. The guy was too messed up that night, but got up in the morning to do it. He opened the door, and said "Who cleaned it up already?". No one had gone near the door yet because of the puke, so we were confused, until one of us realized they had seen a dog running around loose earlier.
We figured the dog must've had it for breakfast...
There were a lot of disturbed, hungover people that day...

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 4/4/2008 7:51:52 PM | since cats are cute little psycopaths, (they kill anything they can -and enjoy killing it) they patiently wait for anything: moths, flies, mice, birds, snakes lizards. pounce on an their unsuspecting victim, then dance around and play with delight until it gives up, taste it to see if its edible. -if it doesn't have much taste, then they offer it up to its keeper (leave it on our doorstep) as a gift -or maybe a futile attempt to make us accessories to another murder they just committed. | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 4/4/2008 8:46:24 PM | My last dog used to eat the cherries that fell off the tree. Why? Not so much because he loved the taste of cherries, but because he HATED crows, and the crows would always raid the cherry tree each year, lol. Of course the crows always got the best pickins while the fruit was still on the tree, but once it fell? He would charge the tree to get the crows off the lawn picking up the fallen fruit, and then gorge himself just so they couldn't get it. He even learned how to eat the fruit and leave the pits behind, but yikes, he would get so bloated and sick some days, and he really didn't want them, that I would just sit with him and giggle "so was it really worth it, Sav?" | |

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 4/4/2008 9:10:42 PM | I had a cat that ate an entire coffee cake with carmel syrup poured all over it. Another cat loved eating an entire bannana loaf. A third one loved tea.
The dog loves eating kitty poo. YUCK!
By the way chocolate and onions really are a NO-NO for dogs and cats- they can cause serious or fatal heart racing.

| Wierd things our pets eat Posted: 4/5/2008 6:28:37 AM | | My nephew had a black lab that used to eat my sons' legos. His new dog, a blue pit bull, will eat the cat poop out of the box--disgusting. He gets NO kisses from Auntie Simmah! My cats don't eat anything really off the wall, but they go nuts for tuna. I had one cat though, that would eat Popcorn, Doritos, Fritos, Little Debbie cakes, pretty much anything. Oh and ice cream....man he was nuts for my leftover ice cream, and I also had to shoo him away from my cereal bowls all the time. Fun topic! | |
