Valentine's Day sucks.

It gives people who are in a relationship a needless obligation, and it gives single people more reason to be miserable.

Always been single on V-Day, and it made me angry at the people who weren't.

I was just wondering how many of us will find our significant other by the (mother of all lover's holidays) Valentine's Day? I certianly hope a significant % of us do! It would mean that there is a God (Eros) of love out there somewhere!

best to find your significant other AFTER valentines day, then you don't have to go through all the bull of buying flowers, expensive dinners, etc, etc.

also best to end a relationship BEFORE valentines day for the same reason if your relationship is heading south

holy shyt hiking, i agree with beth....i only have to ask, are you one of those guys that would meet a girl for the first time after her birthday and break up before a holiday or something just so you can save money?

if someone meets before v-day then so be it...the candy and flowers are just the added bonus.

If I met someone today, Feb 1, I think he would have to be awfully brave to start planning a Valentine's Day together haha. I think it's fab for two friends to go out to movie or dinner, or someone you've been with for a while, but I went out on V-Day on a first date once...It was majorly awkward for half the night! Felt really pretentious given that it was our first time out together and everyone looked at us as if to say, "Aww you're in love" haha.

Holiday trifecta of woe??? You're a funny man, TX!

Perhaps if we remember that love comes in many, many forms,V-Day won't seem as traumatic. I'm just thinking of inviting my single gal pals for a little chocolate indulgence that day or that weekend ! My birthday is just a week before, so I will have at least some kind of fun this month!

Unless it's a true whirl-wind romance, anyone who meets their love between now and V-Day shouldn't be going overboard with dinners, flowers and all that stuff anyway.

And whatever happened to being happy for others these days? Sheesh! Let's all count out blessings, guys. Maybe that will make V-Day a little more bearable.

I don't think it's realistic to hope to have a love interest by Valentine's Day. But you know, stranger things have happened! It could be an accidental meeting, a moment where you look at someone you've known for a long time and you go, "wow" or you could even meet a friend of a friend and just click. Hmm, I think this whole Valentine's thing is starting to make me sappy and sentimental. I need my tough cynical shell so I don't get hurt - LOL! (kidding!)

Whatever happens - I guess we should remember that Valentine's Day shouldn't just be about couples - when I was a kid I used to get my parents and sister Valentines Day presents - and yeah - in grade school we used to send Valentines to all our friends - that was a lot of fun. Now that I think of it, I think I'll get my cat and dog an extra little treat for that day - just to celebrate my furry little buddies. (Yeah, I'm definitely getting sappy - going to stop typing now!)

Do I think I will find her, before then... maybe not. Will I keep looking... nope. I'm a big time believer in if you look you will not find. It would be cool to have someone to which you can get really sappy with on V-day.

Yeah... I'm about to say "F*ck it" myself... I know what I'll do... I'm NOT going to check my inbox until after Feb 14th.... If someone messages me by then, then I'm in for a pleasant surprise; if not, then I guess wasn't expecting anything anyways... Goodbye for now... I guess I'll just be off to the Warhammer forums until then (might as well catch up on my hobbies).

Since Valentine's Day is only TWO weeks away - I can only hope I DON"t find my significant other by then, cause even if I meet him right this very minute, it's still just 2 weeks !!
I don't think I could possibly know he even IS my Significant Other by that time.

Valentines day is spent with the two most gorgeous males in my life. Those would be my young sons. Valentines Day is also my Birthday

How lucky am I to have the commercialization of Valentines to remember the one you love also remind me of getting another year older

But back to the positive side I would much rather enjoy the company of two children who remind me that Mum is still beautiful and very much loved on this extra special day, than worrying about finding a date who should show appreciation for me every day not just Valentines.....

HHMMMM, Im glad you guys cleared up what" V DAY " is..... I had no idea... growing up my nan used to say V for victory and make a V sign with her fingers, from my country it represents VDAY in war... lol
anyhoo.... In oz we never had halloween or other occassions marketed/controlling peoples behaviour...dictating what is expected on certain days.... we are starting to now....( I find it sad) valentines day? isnt that created by hallmark for people to feel manipulated into doing something/buying/consuming and making other people feel unloved for ...
alone.. uncared for if they dont receive such crap?
romance is from the heart/spirit.... enforced... puppery is stale... if someones..anyones self esteem is affected by such dates, then they operate out of ego..... For goodness sakes I had no idea vday was even coming up... its so insignificant..with people dying... babys being born..relationships hurting etc.. the state of being human deserves my attention more than manipulated consumerism..
smiles/peace
ps. love yourself. do something nice and romantic for you.... like.... I always buy me a birthday present,. im never disapointed cause i always get exactly what i can afford/want... how joyous..lol.

I am hoping i get called into work that day for snow plow duty. A good 12 hour shift is one way to forget about it. And i can go home and fall asleep exhausted. Sad, isn't it?

I would welcome some good suggestions on how to spend my first Valentine's Day alone after a very long marriage. Can probably handle the Valentines part, but it is my birthday too. Having dinner with a girlfriend is too weird, thought about just flying somewhere--anyone have any other good ideas?

I would say..............glamourize yourself to the eyetooth............donate your time to a needy cause.......go to the pound and adopt a pet, serve food to the homeless, entertain some terminally ill kids or just enjoy being with your girlfriend having a meal........but most of all.........feel blessed at what you are.........and be thankful for what you have.......

Valentines Day and Christmas are the two hardest holidays for me to go through since my divorce.
Walking through a store the other day with my ten year old son, I saw the HUGE display of Valentines Day stuff, and I got a little down. I sure did enjoy giving nice things and doing nice things for my Valentine, when I was married.
My son noticed that my mood changed.
He grabbed my hand and said to me, "Don't worry Mommy. I will be your Valentine."
That suddenly made it all better, and so much more.

Keep in mind that Valentines Day, Easter, Christmas, Halloween...those are just Corporate Americas ways of sucking even more money from us.
I would rather recieve a handmade card and a nice dinner at home. Or maybe someone could wrap my car in streamers while I am at work, and write all over the windows how much I mean to them.
I like flowers, I really do. But they die.
I would much rather receive something that had some serious thought and time put into it, rather then money put into it.

Roses, Heart shaped boxes of chocolates, Lingerie....I dont need that. I dont think a lot of women want that. We want something that says YOU thought about US, and found the perfect thing to do for us, not what the commercials say you should do.

Happy Valentines Day to all of you single folks out there.
Happy Every Day to all of you.
Keep your chins up...It is just another day.
And when you do find that special someone, it will make it that much sweeter.

mmmmPH....Well up until here recently I was involved with a certain someone on this site. We were together 3 years and I am still yet to receive a Valentines date/gift, Mothers Day present (we have a child together) Birthday gift, christmas gift.....NOTHING
so if I get even one single red rose this year it will be a miracle. Im excited about being single this year but already kinda scared about being alone on this "lovers day"

I feel like it is a sham. If you truly loved someone everyday would be valantines day.being alone on valantines day makes you question yourself worth. Making someone feel good on V-day just to make yourself feel good is manipulative. valantines day is a horrible halliday and too clase to christmas for my likes. I hated how in school they tried to indoctrinate us to celibrate Valantines day and we had to give everyone a valantines day gift. I used to get little or none, and ehn I did it was from my friends not the other classmates or the girls I fancied. Imagine if they made you give everyone at your job valantines so no one felt left out, this day and age you'd be broke.

Being alone on Valentine's day won't be that bad!
I have 4 plants to keep me company!
And am thinking of renting a few cats and a rocking chair for the day so I can sit on the porch, rocking back and forth, and yell at any passing kids to stay off the lawn - and when the mailman comes, sick the cats on him.
I should wear a sweater ... might be cold outside that day ... hmmmm ...

Happy V-day everyone! Best luck to all in finding not the 'perfect' person, but the perfect person for each of us.
