Posted: 2/7/2008 7:27:20 PM | Valentine's Day is especially hard for me for many reasons.
I usually end up working every year on Valentine's day. On one hand, that's ok, cause i don't have a so called 'valentine' to call my own. As a plus, I get to pick the the men and women (mostly men) who wait until the very last minute to get their significant other something for Valentine's Day.
One thing about working on Valentine's Day, and at least the week or two beforehand, is that I work at a jewelry counter. So, I am the one that helps some pick out the perfect piece of jewelry for their mates. Most of the time, I deal with it pretty well and can brush it off. Then I meet that one guy who has a heart of gold, obviously taken, but making me wish I had someone special....that's when it gets hard.
As for finding true love around Valentine's Day...I don't think I would want to. There is too much pressure on being in love and everything, that I would be afraid the feelings wouldn't be real. You know? I would feel like I was being caught up in the hype and commercialization of it all. Does that make sense?
More power to the ones who do find true love this time of year, but I doubt I'll be one to find it.
With all that said, I do hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day ...whether or not you have a significant other to spend it with.

Posted: 2/8/2008 9:32:11 PM | People seem to have abizarre view of what love is...... Its no tsomething you find or that is waiting for you... Its a state of mind a decision you make to love and to find someone else who understands and also is ready to love......
Love is something you choose to ....
The hardest part about love is finding people who actually understand what it is...
Ypu need to some tough work on yourself and find out what it is you could love about another person what needs do you expect to be met and most of all can you love another person inspite of their bad points can you give love when others are at their least loveable
can you endure
I dont know too many happy love songs or love stories, and yet people are still being child like and inmature looking for souls mates and true loves and some people actually are able to find someone who has the ability to love equally and it can feel like a match made in heaven, but we dont know how those stories end up or how long that state of being actually lasts.
In the last centuary mena nd women married and were obligated to simply stay together regardless of feeling and something magical happened quite often they actually learned to love each other, inspite of all else and that is love.......
In this selfish world people sit around waiting expecting that they are somehow entitled to find a saint who automatically loves everything about them and makes them happy with little or no effort and struggle.
Get to know yourself in depth honestly, and that means taking into acount everything your other partners have told you is wrong with you and take it seriously, you dont have to change it jsut accept that you a full of unlovable traits, and that another human being has to put up with alot from you and you will need to do the same.
Its time to be humble and be truthfull if you cant find love perhaps its becasue you cant give it

Posted: 2/8/2008 10:41:07 PM | Had to revist this thread again just to see if there were any more positive comments other than my own. There are now a few more. I will not likely have a date for Valentine's Day and I'm also working anyways. But next year I will.
In the meantime I will just send out a few cards - both real and virtual to a few people I know just because I feel like doing something that I really haven't done in ages. Like since grade school when we used to send out cards to classmates and it was no big deal back then.

Posted: 2/9/2008 7:21:20 AM | In my opinion, it really is just another day. It's what I call a "Hallmark Holiday."
Not saying you shouldn't acknowledge it with a card or something small if you are dating, but to me it's really not important if I'm "with" someone on Valentine's Day or not. Have you ever tried to make/keep reservations on that day? It's a pain that I just avoid altogether.
If you find yourself lonely on this day, consider volunteering to help with the Valentine's Day parties at your local elementary school. It's fun, as well as fulfilling. Children can touch your heart in a way that no man ever could. I'm NOT saying I want to be single forever -- just saying that there are other ways to spend Valentine's or any other day that can bring you joy as well.
