| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 12:59:51 PM | Up untill last year i alwaysed drove junk. That way i could afford to pay for my flight lessons. Now that i do not have to pay for lessons, i bought a new car. That and the fact that i am now on call with my job. I can not afford to go out to find a car in the driveway that will not start or the locks have frozen over. And yes, that has happened. But in all honesty, only one woman i ever dated brought up the fact that i did indeed drive a pile of garbage. And yes, she was a gold digger. So did i buy a car to impress the ladies? Nope. I bought one to keep my job ! Besides, i feel that cars are only appliances. | |

Maybe you could try to discuss the actual topic instead of constantly telling us about your truck. But...maybe not. Maybe your life just isn't that full.
BTW, your gremlin comment is quite childish. Now be quiet and go sit in your truck.

You've mentioned your truck in almost every one of your comments. I'm starting to think your truck does define you. So BFD...you have a truck. Most people commenting have vehicles. We got it...you have a truck. You like it. Maybe you'd pick it over a companion. Time to move on and stop telling us about your truck. I wonder if anyone missed the fact that you have a truck? YAAAAAWN
Ya took the words right out of my mouth GoodDay lmao
Oh and don't forget that she OWNS and PAys for it...wow....damn can you believe that sh*t...

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 1:25:54 PM | Sorry you guys are jealous of me "owning" and "paying" for my own transportation.
I work for a living. And I work 40 hours a week. Do you?
I don't rely on public transportation or welfare to get me to my destination.
Sans..and do have a nice day!!!

No one is jealose here that you own and have a paid for truck. We get it. You have a wonderful truck and that is a good thing. I never said anything negaitive about people owning better vehicles than mine and where you live if I lived there I would have something simular. That is not the issue and you have been getting off topic with you whole " I got an awesome truck" Answer the question of the thread. Would you date a man who had a lesser car than yours?

Yes. I would date a man that had a "lesser" car than mine if he exhibited the responsibility to maintain his vehicle and would want to "trade up" if his vehicle is costing more in repairs than what it would cost to buy a new one.
I, myself choose to buy a new vehicle when I see fit. And I did.

I didn't get this at all. What I took from the statements about her truck is that the truck provides her SAFETY, that it will accommodate her pets, and will get them all out of dodge should a serious hurricane strike -- as can happen in Florida.
I don't live in Florida, but I have many friends who do. A couple of them have put generators in their houses after being without power for almost a month following hurricanes. They all own 4 wheel drive SUVs to get them through floods and wind.
Although I drive a sedan that converts to manual when need be, if I lived in Colorado, no way would I be without an 4 wheel drive SUV. What you drive has to do with both your preferences AND living conditions.
I don't much care about what a guy drives (hence the bf with the beat up VW). The only time I would care is if he felt he needed to tell me about his wonderful car before we've even gone out on a date, or if the thing was a death trap. I'm not interested in knowing what kind of car my date owns before he opens up the door to let me in.
I'm no more impressed by a Porche than I am a beat up Beetle -- and I've dated men who've owned both. You've got to do better than a car to get me interested.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 2:03:10 PM | Bingo AlexG!! I almost bought a black beamer.. but I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I would need a 4-wheel drive truck in order to cart 4 cats, and an Egret offshore in the event of an evacuation.
I was thinking of them, not me when I bought the truck.

Good Answer and yes I am looking to trade up my car in the next few years. Right now it is what gets me from point a to point b. I apeciate the reason for the vehicle you have as well. Very good reason..

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 2:26:20 PM | As I stated before..my truck is all about slapping down the back seats, smishing in four cats, an Egret and whomever else needs to be in for an evacuation in the event of a hurricane. That's why I bought it. And I could have had a BMW, but nooooooooo!! I'm not shallow. (God..I wanted that black beamer so badly....) but I had to think about my family. They are first and I am second.
My truck is new. Yes, it is reliable. Yes, I'm damn glad that it's new and reliable come June to November in Florida. (Hurricane season)

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 2:32:10 PM | Do people really worry about this? OMG! Can we say SHALLOW?
Since I totalled a Cherokee a few years ago and got screwed by the insurance company, I have decided I will never buy a new vehicle ever again! Last 2 vehicles I bought, I paid cash for. Given that I am partially involved in construction (constantly hauling lumber, sheetrock, concrete, ect) and live in New England, I stick to used 4 x 4 trucks and SUV's.
As such, the women I have dated almost always have nicer vehicles than me. Means absolutely nothing.

. If the guy I'm with balks at my truck and my expertise in driving it out of harm's way..then he can drop dead for all I care. haha!
Yes hon, there is harms way here but it got nothing to do with a hurricane or saving your gerbils ?
Now who took my telephone book so I can sit on to see over my steering wheel just in case there is a commoner out there lurching about in all the fallen debris I run over.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 3:42:36 PM | Well, really, "better" is a very relative term. I love my 98 mazda. It's treated me well, feels like home. In fact, I was all set to by a honda when car shopping til I got in the 626... I felt like I had been driving it forever it felt so "right". I wouldn't trade it for anything. It turns 10 years old this fall and has never given me alick of trouble except for maintenance.
I *do* think what we choose to drive says something about our personalities and who we are, for better or worse. Our priorities, our lifestyles, etc. Including the car color. for some, their car choice could be an indicator of materialism, or an indicator of enjoying the feel of a luxurious car. *shrug* For me, my car is green, because green is one of my 2 favorite colors and I don't like boring colored cars. It's a 4 door because I wanted enough room for friends or kids (I was kidless back in 98). It's a sedan because...well, that's the kind of person I am. I don't like to be super high off the ground and being petite, I dont' feel comfortable in an SUV or minivan. Trucks scare the heck out of me (shoulda seen me drive the moving truck!!!!) I buy new cars only b/c I know nothing about fixing them...and I hang on to them as long as I can b/c I am cheap and hate having car payments. Inside my car is a huge mess....I live in my car I tell ppl. Yes I hate cleaning, tis true.
If my car were "nicer" than my dates, well, that would just mean he chose a different car for different reasons, i suppose... I think the only turn off would be if his car were super banged up b/c he was a reckless driver who ran into stuff all the time. Or, ok, there could be other car turn offs. Rednecky bumper stickers would be bad. Too much fancying up w/stripes and paint and crap would be a turn off. I wouldn't want a guy who would love his car more than the ppl riding in it!
But I *do* think our car choice is reflective of our priorities and personalities. Mine might be a mess instead, but you know, a lot of that mess is because of the 2 loves in my life - my children - and I would rather have a messy kid car than a neat kidless one.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 4:20:19 PM | Who cares. A new automobile is the worse investment you can make. sure they have the new car smell for a while, and they drive really nice. They also depreciate several thousand dollars as soon as you drive them off the lot. I drive an 89 ford ranger with 250,000 miles on it. I paid 3,500.00 for it 11 years ago, and have had to put very little money in it since. I plan on buying another automobile in october, and you can bet it wont be a new one either, and after I get it, I will drive the wheels off of it just like i have this one. Keep the high car notes. give me a nicely used auto, and I'll bank the cash. lol
you're sure right on there. if the oil companies weren't gouging us, i'd still be driving the 1978 lincoln mark iv. great car, american made, of solid steel, not fiberglass. it was seven feet from the windshield to the front bumper, and would take out a hummer. unfortunately, it also got eight miles a gallon. so, now i'll stick to my 1992 town & country with the 135,000 on it.

| If a woman drove a 'better' car than you.... Posted: 2/3/2008 5:01:04 PM | I have also chosen function over form when purchasing a vehicle. Not what does it look like, but how will it best service my transportation needs.
When my kids were younger, it was minivans. Not real practical to have a two seater sports car with children.
While there's nothing wrong with the luxury or sports cars, I'd consider someone meeting their more practical needs as someone probably more sensible.
If it's just a car for show or flash, then I'd tend to think they may be interested more in arm candy. People who are only interested in appearances and what other people think wouldn't be compatible with me.

Posted: 2/3/2008 5:44:44 PM | | shrugs it says shes got a few more bucks to spend on a more expensive car, good for her i dont find it intimidating nor does it bother me. On the other hand if all she can talk about is all her money and luxuries she buys to me, then id say shes a wee bit to focused on the cash flow and material items and not worth my time
