My grandfather used to tell people he was celebrating X anniversary of his 29th birthday...

I had my first child at 24. After that, I've forgotten how old I turned on each birthday, though I'm not sure if it's by choice or because I'm getting old and the brain cells are dying My 7 year old tells people I'm 29. I love that boy

Thank you Missmatch and JRism, its a compliments on my part, but I dont really ask anyone how i look. Some of the guys who flirt with me, I let them know that I am too old for them and they say not!! then I just gave them a bad look. Then they will dare to make a bet, dinner or money but i dont give them the satisfaction of knowing how old I am, I am talking here in real person and not in the internet. Thanks, its the Asian thing lol.

I would reply with something along the lines of,

" I'm far more interested in your sharing with me what you have done with the years you've been blessed to have ."

I look at a person's hands to determine their age. Hands rarely lie about age.

Carry on!

I have to disagree with Ray.
The type of work you do, the climate you live in, the money you have or don't have to buy beauty (hand care) products and other things can make the difference.
For instance, when someone like Paris Hilton is my age, I am sure her hands are going to look a whole lot younger than mine do.

Again, I say:
If you are asked to guess...either tell the truth or refuse to guess.

I say something outrageous. If someone looks about my age, I'll tell them 30 or 40 something.

What the heck do you say if a woman asks you to guess her age??

If a woman asks another woman - she will usually get an honest answer. The reason for the honesty is usually an attempt to put the woman asking for the guess quite smartly "in her place"......since it is common knowledge that women are judged by age and body, so to have someone ask this question is a reveal of the fact that the asker is insecure and looking for stroking.

If a woman asks a MAN to guess her age, it is usually in response to his question: "So, how OLD are you?"

Stupid question. If she has not already volunteered this information, then it is obvious that she is not interested in being judged by her age - which is over the age of 25, or she'd be willingly jumping up and down with glee to provide it. She will then turn the tables on him to put HIM back into the proverbial "hot seat", by saying "Well, how old do you THINK I am"......

Any answer he gives will be wrong. He was wrong to ask in the first place.

It's easy enough to find out someone's true age anyway. It's public information which is available on the same websites which offer background checks. A person is doing someone a courtesy and showing respect by asking them directly. Concealment of age is just another form of vanity, and has no place in the dating world.

I hate it when a man asks me that! Yes...men have asked me that question. First of all...it is a big turn off for me. Of course it is obvious he thinks he is younger looking than his age and he is fishing for a compliment. I tell them the truth...I say "oh no, you are not going to get me to play that game, because I am terrible at it. Wonder if I am wrong and insult you? Ask me another question." It works every time and they don't pressure me and insist.

I do not mind at all telling anyone my age. I never had a problem with it. Now, you ask me my weight...I would NEVER tell anyone my weight. Even when I was thinner, I would not reveal the number.

Personally, I think it is very tacky and would show me something in your character to ask someone what your age is. Everyone sees others differently. I have been told I look younger many times, but I don't think it is because of how I look. I think it is because of my attitude and how I act. There is a big difference. I don't care how old or young you look. If you do not have the personality to go along with it....it is a useless point. BTW...I guessed a few profile right on the number...being a psych nurse, I am very observant....not always a good thing.

""Has anyone besides me noticed how some women report ages much lower than their actual ages in the narrative portion of their profile, not realizing their age in the box above it is calculated on the birthdate they list on their application?""

Hey, that's a bonus because now you know she's none too bright.

I make a guess and add 10 to it, then share it with her. Especially if she has it on her profile already.

Ask her, "Why do you want me to guess?"

I am horrible at guessing ages and when someone asks me to guess, I demurely defer. If the person insists, I always guess older than I really think. She/he won't insist that I guess again.

I have an idea! Why don't you tell her what you really think? If we all were honest, perhaps we wouldn't have so many deluded peeps on this site thinking they all look decades younger than they are, and attempting to act on that delusion.

Love it!!

One of my pet peeves is having someone tell me his or her age, followed by "but I look XXX amount of years younger."

No. You don't. Stop taking flattery and a compliment as the gospel truth.

You look your age. You might look good for your age, but you look your age.

Yes!

I heard someone say the other day, "The new 60 is not the new 40; it is the new 60," and I quickly agreed. We need to stop obsessing about trying to convince people that we look younger than we are and say, "This is how 50, 55, or 60 looks."

people shouldnt ask qustions they dont really want to know the answers too

If someone insists that you guess their age...JUST DO IT!!

If you are wrong by saying you think she is older.......then its a good lesson for them!!

Well, I'm going to assume that the reason she has told you to guess is that you asked her how old she is. Because I have done it before and that's why. I notice that a large percentage of the women on here think it's awful that a woman would say that to you, but women don't usually just up and say to a guy, "how old are you?" And usually it's just bluntly done in an offensive manner. So, my response is, "how old do you think I am?" I figure, if you're going to put me on the spot, I'm going to do it right back at ya. Mostly it's because it's annoying to me that someone is going to make a decision about a relationship based on age rather than attraction. If you aren't certain of my age, then why don't you just go by whether or not we get along? If you can't, then just keep steppin.
For those of you that don't get it, I've never seen a woman that just goes around walking up to people saying, "how old do you think I am?". That's just nonsense. And btw, it's also funny that most people won't think twice about a man dating someone 10-20 years his junior, but will trip out in a minute about a woman dating a man 10 - 20 years her junior.

I ask that question all the time...Why? Because I am in the beauty industry.
And....it is fun to watch people try....because I truly do not look my age. Hardly a wrinkle on this woman's face.
Without looking at my profile....try and guess!

I think there are several reasons why people think this way.
#1- when we are remembering our parents at our (current) age, they are wearing what is now very out-dated (& by our
perception, probably fugly as hell) fashions & hair styles.
#2 - we are learning to take better care of ourselves (health, diet, skin care, etc), which is going to have an effect on how
we appear.
#3 - because people are living longer, there are a lot more people that are older than you, for basis of comparison.

Anyway, I guess because I am pretty honest, I don't think of it as game playing, it might be meant as an honest question.
I mean, how objective can I be, I already know how bloody old I am?! Kind of like the "Do these jeans make my butt look
big?" Contrary to what our kids think, being a mother does NOT give you eyes in the frigging back of our heads! My bath-
room mirror shows me my face, so I know what that looks like. I cannot see my butt, so if I ask, I need a sincere & honest
answer. I want to know the worst before we go out, so if neccessary I can change into a better looking outfit!

Well, you ^ are clearly better at guessing than I am, I thought she was my age (47)! ROFL. But then again, I am often
taken for my early 30's, so apparently I am not the only person who sucks at guessing.
