Sorry to hear about Kipper, but I understand. I will be equally sad when my friend leaves me. His name is Blue, since he has 1 eye thats half blue half brown, and one eye thats half white, and half blue. Had him since he was a puppy and he is the most loyal friend I could ever ask for. I also understand about the "Even make a sh!tty day seem not so bad" kinda thing. I can only imagine how harsh this world would be without pets. I can also imagine how awesome this world would be if we treated each other half as good as our pets treat us.
Thank you. I have learned a hell of a lot from my friendship with that dog. I could probably say that I'm STILL learning even with him gone. This world would be a far better place if we paid more attention to what our 4-legged pals teach us every day.

Winter time is a worry and just the season can make everything a little harder, I hope you are keeping your home brightly lit and getting as much sun time as you can. I sound like a mum, talking about eating well at a time like this, but be careful you don't sink too deep into depression. Much as I believe dogs are everyone's best friend and tortoises too (I still miss my animals) things hit a little less harder, the wider your circle of 2 legged and 4 legged friends. It is a good time to make better friends with your neighbours too and thank them for sharing him. God bless.

| The Truth About Guys & Dogs Posted: 2/10/2008 5:08:21 PM | Dogs have a way of leaving lasting pawprints on our hearts.
They never tell our secrets, they are always happy to see us no matter how many times we leave them behind...I have never had a more loyal or trustworthy human friend than either of my dogs. I probably miss my dog who passed more than my human friends who pass in and out of my life or relatives who have passed on. It is wrong to say, but dogs are dependent on you, and like your children so it is a great loss.
There is nothing like having a dog nuzzle up to you after a rough day at work, reminding you that no matter what stress and burdens you carry there are more important things to enjoy in life like a game of fetch or a walk outside.
I would never say they are just dogs, pets are scientifically proven to be beneficial for your health.

That dog made the sun shine around here day and night, no matter what the weather was outside. I'm having a hard time keeping my shades open since he's gone. He was always out there on my front deck. When he knew I was sitting here at my computer, he would peek in my windows at me, wanting me to come out and hang out with him. I haven't been sleeping or eating a hell of a lot. I had about 5 hours of sleep last night and eat damn-near half of a large pizza at a buddy's house. I'm in the middle of writing my neighbor a thank you note right now.

THAT was awesome! Thank you very much, that was something I needed to hear. I sure feel like there's a whole in my heart right now so, I would have to agree that he kept me healthy when he was around.

| The Truth About Guys & Dogs Posted: 2/10/2008 9:29:42 PM | Awww Op, I'm very sorry to hear about Kipper!
I understand how you feel. When I had to put my dog down, I was a wreck. I truly felt like I had lost a family member. I don't think you're a wimp at all... I think you are on the same page as many of us who have been in your situation. You have a big heart and that's something I love to see in a man. A persons dog is truly their best friend.
Thankfully Kipper is in a great place now and you'll always have the memories you shared. Bigs hugs to you sweetie!!
|
| The Truth About Guys & Dogs Posted: 2/10/2008 9:40:42 PM | NO you are not a wimp! My dog is my buddy and if she passed, I'd be devastated. She is a part of our family. My son is leaving for the Navy this week and he is so torn up about missing our dog. Animals have a way to touch our hearts in ways a human cannot. They just love us because we walk in the door!
Don't feel weird about grieving over your friend. Just because he was a dog, does not make the grieving any less. Time will be your friend and you will start only remembering the good times with him. I am sure Kipper was glad you were a part of his life and loved and appreciated you.

| The Truth About Guys & Dogs Posted: 2/10/2008 11:12:14 PM | The truth about dog people and their dogs. I adore dogs. I've worked in a vet clinic, now work in a pet store, and I have my baby girl at home or with me at work. When I'm looking for a potential partner, I look for someone who loves dogs, and animals, as well. If they have pets, all the better! If they don't, I actually gauge part of my interest in them with how they interact with my animals. And I have quite the menagerie.
So I don't think you're a wimp or sound strange. Animals are amazing and most pet lovers will value your story and your empathize with your loss.
Sorry to hear about your friend's death. I hope all goes well for you. *offers hug*

| The Truth About Guys & Dogs Posted: 2/11/2008 12:00:24 AM | I understand how you feel….This world would be a very lonely place without animals in it! 1 of my dogs is a diabetic and needs a lot of special care and time. She has hip problems too so moving around sometimes isn’t so easy for her. My life revolves around this dog and caring for her needs. I can not imagine what my life is going to be like without her and I try not to think about it. I bought a new SUV a few days ago and as the car salesman is going on and on about all the features with the different trucks and trying to tell me about each one…. I pull out a measuring tape and go 1 after the next measuring the back bumper to the ground LOL. It has to fit the dog ramp I have He looked at me like I was nuts and says “this truck also has a CD player, and gets 29 miles per gallon” I said yeah ok but do the seats lay all the way flat? I finally told him I have a dog with special needs. After that he found me the perfect truck to accommodate her needs then said he has never sold a car to anyone that cared about the needs of a animal that would be riding in it much less bring a measuring tape to make sure it would work. She loves the truck and I’m sure I will get use to it too. | |

That dog and I had our own family. Sounds kind of odd but, that's really what it was. There hasn't been a time since I'm moved to where I live that he hasn't been out there for me. It's pretty quiet and there and it's sad as hell.

I'm a person that thinks with his head and feels with his heart. That might sound kind of silly to some people but, there's people out there that don't even have enough sense or passion to understand THAT. I know and I feel that, that dog probably loved ME as much as I loved HIM. You knew it and you could FEEL it. All a fella wants is to be loved, you know? All of that other trivial b..s. in the world REALLY is trivial if you have THAT.

It takes a VERY special person to be a dog person, you know? I think people are slowly coming around and realizing this. You can have ANY pet but, there's NOTHING like a dog, you know? If I meet a girl who's a dog person, I'll already know there's something special about her.

Kipper had seizures from time to time. At first, it obviously freaked me out. I always thought THAT was the way he was going to go. People would laugh when I would tell them that I would sit there and hold him while this was happening. He had a lot of heart and soul in his eye alone. You could just tell that when he was having a seizure that he was scared. He and I REALLY looked after each other, you know? Friends are supposed to do that.

I wish I could believe this. That dog and I spent a lot of time out on the front deck of the house. I would always joke with him and tell him, "we need dates!"

Get a parrot!! They live longer!~
I've never been a bird person or a fish person either really. There isn't enough personality there for me, I guess. Birds are fairly expensive anyway. If I'm going to pay THAT much for a pet, there better be some kind of character there. I know as sure as I'm sitting here, that Kipper WOULD have lived longer had he not been hit the other night. How he got hit STILL remains a mystery to me. He knew where he had to stop when it came between the driveway and the street. Something about that just doesn't seem right to me.

Like kipper was to you my dog has a very human side to him. Its something only animal lovers understand. Give yourself time to grieve and when your ready go get a dog for your very own. Depending on what kind of breed you like or what breed kipper was there are many rescue groups that have dogs in need of homes. Mine is a boxer and I rescued him 2 years ago and it was the best thing I have ever done. I think being an animal lover says something about someone. Its something I personally look for in a woman.

Hey I'm rude, blunt and most call me a manhater -- so you must realize I rarely give out compliments -- but I think you are smoking hot and a big part of that is how you feel about dogs. It's a down time right now but this too, shall pass.

| The Truth About Guys & Dogs Posted: 2/11/2008 5:45:07 AM | Hi ! Sorry to hear about your loss of kipper. He wasn't just a dog, he was your best friend. You are not a wimp for feeling so upset. When my last dog died I was upset for ages. I actually felt guilty because I was more upset at losing that dog than I was at losing my grandparents !)My best friend now is my co*ker spaniel ! When she goes I will be even more upset than last time. All animals are special but sometimes one comes along who stands out a little more than the others and will always be extra special. This little dog is very special to me. She follows me everywhere, sleeps on my bed, is always pleased to see me and definitely knows when I'm having a bad day ! I just need to know where I can find a man like that !!!!!!! | |

My rotty has had a few seizures too when her sugar level bottoms out. They do have that scared look but the medical fact about it is…. They do not know a seizure has happened and they do not feel any pain. I have a friend that has seizures and he says he also does not feel any pain or anything and the only way he knows that he had a seizure is because it makes you loose your bladder. It’s the same with animals so you can rest easy about that because he was not in pain. Sounds like Kipper may have been a diabetic too. I think you need to get a dog because you have the heart to care and there are so many that need good homes. Oh, I took a look at the picture and Kipper was part Husky. The mask and ears show it. I cant see his tail because he is sitting down but I bet it curled up. I have had 3 huskies and the last one disappeared last year and I have never found her. They are special dogs with a mystery to them. I still miss her a lot!

Kipper had shepherd, retriever, and we think a bit of wolf in him too. You can't judge a woman like you could a book by it's cover. You CAN however tell what kind of person she is just by the kind of dog she has and how she treats them. I think it's obvious that I have a lot of love to give someone, be it a woman OR a dog. To find that package deal would be awesome. Especially, with the sadness I'm feeling here. I've lost a hell of a lot in the past couple of days. I know what it will take to get that back.

I'll take that as the first compliment I've had in days where I haven't had to consider what kind of medication that person giving me the compliment was on. I showed a picture of Kipper and I to a co-worker today and she said with a straight face, "you guys made a cute couple."

Actually, Kipper's tail was kind of bushy and didn't curl up. I would say that he had more wolf in him than huskie. Whenever he was wet, he looked just like one of them. He was really cool-looking dog...an original. That fit him to a "t" since that's what he was. They'll never be another Kipper.
