if you are basing your "women should pay" on "women have the same opportunity" thats not true. most women still get paid less than men.

Who pays for the meal or beverage on the first date?

Just the other night I was invited out for coffee by someone who didn't make an offer to pay for my beverage (despite the fact that, as I happened to walk into the cafe, I ended up approaching him right as he was in line). I admit, I was a little offended. I mean, come on, the dude bought himself a coffee, something to nosh on and even a ceramic mug to take home, but couldn't at least offer to grab me a tea?

If I invite someone out for a coffee, typically even if it's an already established friend, I at least offer to pay for the first round of bevvies. It's just polite behaviour in my opinion.
