| How do you feel about your own birthday? Posted: 4/16/2008 9:07:57 PM | OP, I don't actually want to forget about my birthday, but as a matter of fact I've forgotten both my own birthday and birthdays of people close to me numerous times. Birthdays simply don't matter to me - especially my own one. I simply don't understand why anybody would be "celebrated" just because. I mean, honestly, borthday celebrations are somewhat undeserved. I rather celebrate achievements. IMO, the only person that should be celebrated on a birthday is the person's mother - in the end it was her doing all the work to pop out the little brat. So I haven't thrown any birthday parties for the past 25 or so years.
Oh, and before the amateur psychology brigade arrives and diagnosis some sort of childhood trauma let me just add: I am neither depressed nor do I have the slightest problems with aging. I am just not into celebrating non-achievements, simple and plain.

And Happy Birthday Red!! Got room in that suitcase for me? You can leave your Man Bat at home....
Thank you.
I had to cancel my trip at the end... so, it was not as good as I planned, but not quite as dark and depressing as OP's.
Ever since I decided that I will remain to be 35, aging does not bother me so much and birthdays are fun again.

From my experience with men, usually they don't like a lot of attention. I don't think there's anythign wrong with that. Girls usually like to celebrate more than guys. At least my girlfriends do.

As the topic suggests I want to know about how people feel about their own birthday.
I have never had a good experience when celebrating my birthday. As such, I don't even like to remember it is my birthday when it rolls around.
I unfortunately am 22yo today [02/12/08] and have to suffer the onslaught of 'friends' and 'family' congratulating me on another year spent here on the journey to the grave.
Am I the only person who wants to forget they even have a birthday?
Never? In 22 years? Wow.
If you don't want to "suffer the onslaught" of people wishing you a happy birthday, perhaps you should tell them not to? You don't sound happy at all.

| How do you feel about your own birthday? Posted: 4/17/2008 6:28:23 PM | | My birthday is my favorite day of the year. I thank God for bringing me through another year. I was born in August so I'm a summer child, love to go to the beach to celebrate. Give yourself a wonderful gift and practice gratitude that you're still on the planet. | |

| How do you feel about your own birthday? Posted: 4/17/2008 9:11:01 PM | | I'm not really a fan of birthdays either. Something always goes seriously wrong on mine every year. Things like friends not showing up, boyfriends showing up 2 hours late then leaving right away because they're 'bored', food poisoning (although that was preventable, the reaction I got from my bf... different bf from the bored one was not so cool.... there was also major issues with the gift that bf gave me). I honestly cannot remember ever having a happy birthday to be honest. I'm going to celebrate this year then go out with a bang for my 25th because it's my champagne birthday and after that I'm not going to bother celebrating anymore. It has nothing to do with being depressed, I love my life, I just find that I always take the time to plan these events then they're just never all that fun. | |

| How do you feel about your own birthday? Posted: 4/17/2008 11:32:27 PM | | I love my birthday, mine was yesterday, and I do things I want to enjoy. If people wish to join me in in my day, I will look forward to them. This year, was casual since my b-day fell in mid week, slept in, had a great morning, workout, went to afternoon play, had dinner out and enjoyed my day. We make our bithdays what we want, I keep it fun, simple and its all about celebrating a day for you. | |
