I only said it was an idea.....didn't say it was good one
If Madness would be prepared to make it an exclusive night only for PoF then that would be ideal.

Look thee here folks:

http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts9331767.aspx

this lady has found a venue, picked a date, posted a thread (loads of help/advice if you don't know how) and a meet is born, it's as easy as that.

All you do then is sit back and wait for folk to sign up, OK you may have to field the odd question but it's not hard.

Are you all in Glasgow? Is someone in Ayr, Perth, Sterling, Oban, Inverness, Aviemore, Dundee, or Edinburgh?

have you asked in walkabout if you can reserve a whole floor? as i said previously theres a massive wetherspoons - and its near madness. that would be a good meeting place as no music so peeps can get to know one another. then those that want to go dancing can go dancing.the mobile signals do work in that wetherspoons.

scrummy dont know how girls have managed to contact you. the system wont let me. can you pm me ur email address please

thank you

Lolly you should be able to contact me as loads of girls already have, I can't message you privately because you have your profile set for males only.
I'll definitely suss out Walkabout as a venue, and while i'm taking on board the attraction of Wetherspoons for the people who don't like noisy pubs, it is kinda boring because of the lack of music, not everyone will be able to go onto a nightclub if they have to catch the last train/bus home.

Hello Peeps!! I think hiring a large function room in a hotel is a very good idea and im sure they would give it to us for free of charge, after all they will coin in with the drink, especially with some of us thirsty fishes!!! They ususally would provide a DJ etc also!
Failing that the offer that Madness are making sounds good, i never made it round there on Sat. as i wasnt sure how their disabled facilites were as my friend is in a wheelchair, anyone know? Basically anywhere we can all be together in the one room with a bit of dance music sounds good to me! Lets get a date sorted............... Jx

Jules, there is a disabled toilet in Madness, there is a guy comes every week who is in a wheelchair, and the madness staff escort him to the the toilet, clearing the way! The only thing is, they have offered us the upstairs part so not sure if there is a lift, but will certainly check that out for you. Nothing is arranged yet anyway, got a few places to contact (some of them in hotels) so hopefully get something under way for the first fortnight in March that will suit everyones taste.

great idea ian c that or a formal night would be nice.
there are a number of places the can be had just for a pof night and that will provide food free of charge.
a lot of hotels would also be willing to go out their way to get us all there.
some people like madness but there is also a lot that dont. maybe the normal clubs are ok for little meets but not really any good if there are numbers like the last meet. an exclusive venue i think would be better. or, even some place like the merchant city that has plent of bars and a massive big area in the middle that connects them all together.

i think it would be a good idea for people in other areas to arrange mini meets and have a monthly pof meet all round the country and then scrummy and co can arrange a bigger main pof meet maybe every 3 months or so.
that way i think it would keep the interest going for numbers to attend. people came from all over for the last meet so there are plenty of mini meets that could be going on.

Thankyou Sola, I also think that it doesn't really matter where the meet is, people will either come or they won't, and you are right about a need for these kind of events and to be honest, although the Maltman was too small for the amount of people who signed up and loads couldn't get in, in a way it was good because everyone was closer together and it meant people really did mingle and get on with each other, which was good.
Anyway, the next meet (that Scrummy and co will be hosting) is not going to be until the beginning of April now because Easter is approaching, and have a few people to phone etc to get the ball rolling.
In the meantime though, anyone is welcome to join glasgowrose and myself in the Maltman on Friday night, male or female, whoever is in the mood for a night out just show up, we'll probably be there from about 9pm.

Does anyone know if there's been any suggestions for a meet in the Midlothian area? It would need someone from a younger age group to organise this, someone who knows what venues are available, and suitable.

My generation (60-70) still likes nights out, or even days out. Something on the lines of the Glasgow meet, but a bit more low key. They certainly all seemed to have enjoyed themselves.

I'm in Dundee and though I don't have the time to organize myself (single mom) - if someone had something local here I would be up for it in a heartbeat.

But yeah it seems like all the talk of meets centers around Glasgow

Yep, the last meet was in the Crystal Palace and a couple of people have suggested it for the next one. While this pub is ideal in size to accommodate everyone, it has no music or atmosphere, so have a feeling the party animals (and lets face it, there were a few lol) won't really like this venue. It's all very well saying that people can go on to clubs afterwards for music and a dance, but loads of fish have to catch trains home etc, so for them it would maybe be a boring old night with no party atmosphere.

Why don't people get wee mini meets off the ground, anyone can host and all it takes is a bit of time and patience to answer queries etc....i'm still going to host the next BIG meet at the beginning of April, but there's nothing to stop people starting a thread and suggesting meeting up somewhere for a quiet drink.

Same goes for areas like Falkirk, Ayrshire, Dundee etc....I know people came from all over for the Glasgow meet...why not kick something off in your own area, i'm sure it will get just as much attraction as the Glasgow meet did.

Come on fish, lets get Scotland on the map!

I am going to try to organise a meet in Edinburgh but it will be after the first week in April when im off on holiday so any suggestions would be great as not everyone can make Glasgow and then you have the expense of a hotel and travel etc though I know its not far it puts a lot of people off.
