Right folks, can I get feedback on this one ASAP please? Just checked my e-mails, Madness have kindly offered the following!

Hi Sharon,
Upstairs in Madness is usually only for pre booked diners paying £19.95 for a set meal.
We are however willing to reserve upstairs for you and take no dinner bookings for Friday 28th March holding around 150 people.
We will even put on a Free Buffet for you!

Wasn't going to have the meet until beginning of April but this is too good an offer to miss (and if we fill the place then hopefully they will have us back another time)

[This Meet is now up, please place comments about it there
March Madness! 3rd Glasgow meet, Friday, 28th March 2008

It would be great if you organised a meet in Edinburgh. April is not that far away and it's not something that can be arranged overnight. Look forward to hearing if you make any progress.

In many cases they can be, meets need not be complicated.

Pick a place, pick a time, pick a date

There you go a meet is born.

I told folk there were tall ships in Liverpool on the wed or thusday and 6 or 8 of us met on the Saturday. It needen't be a big complicated affair, say where you will be and when. If you go with a mate or two it doesn't matter if no one else turns up, even if it's a pub meet.

hi all you peeps in bonny scotland

i just wanted to say that i have been to 4 or 5 meets in brighton where i live ranging from fancy dress discos at a hotel which POF takes over for the night, to a karaoke bar where other people were also in attendance, to POF peeps going to a funky music club. all were good nights with varied aged POF members having fun, chatting and dancing. the 1st meet is usually a little nerve racking, but i have made some new friends, and you can all be doing that too.

i hope the meets up your way prove to be as enjoyable, be it bowling, eating, drinking or dancing x

Re the above Forum, IAN C 69, has a very valid point with regards to any meets to accommodate POFs only at weekends & big enough to Host the Crowd, unless there is a venue big enough & not getting used at weekends , it dos'nt leave many options but to use Pubs ect, though if Not at a weekend there are plenty of venues to consider, One in particular, " Glasgows Grand Ole Opry " at Paisley Rd. Toll, its only used mid-week for Special Occassions or Private Bookings , I'm sure the Committee would be glad to offer the premises free , if a good turnout was expected , I founded the Club in 1978 & its still running well, although i'm no longer involved with the Club , i'm certain they would do the same as i did, The Club has the Bar takings , the money from the food & they would supply the entertainment , during usualy the first break they would put on 3 games of Bingo ( single line , 1,2,3 & full-line), all this going too the Club, POF could put on a raffle, the Club SEATS 500 People, Bar upstairs & Downastairs, Dance Floor upstairs & downstairs, One of the reasons the Club was such a Success was it is very easy to get too from most areas in Glasgow, by bus, car , Underground ect, its just off the M8 Motorway. Eg The POF take it on a THURSDAY NIGHT, we would have the Venue to ourself for any theme night proposed, just an idea to ponder over. it is a great idea holding the mini nights, giving people a chance to meet other POFs before a Main Meet, especial us that are going on there own & also to possibly offer a lift to others , who have a problem either getting there or getting home after the Meet. The Opry is only one suggested Venue , I'm sure other POFs have similar ideas , or may know similar venues not getting used at weekends & could do with the extra income.

The Grand ole oprey sounds a great venue, was in it many years ago and it was a good gunslinging night as i remember.
It is easily accessible but we may not get as good a turnout on a Thurs as we would at the weekends due to commitments. I am considering a "jolly boys and girls outing" to Rothesay all day one Saturday and last ferry and train home. I go there fishing and there is a cracking pub with a big lounge that could put up with us it is right at the sea front. If it is a nice day it would be great. Need feedback peeps!
Did u check out the scifi night they had down south? A proposal oon the night too!!!
Looked like they had a great time!!! KEEP ROCKIN Oh YEAH! Alan

I shall look out for a New host with the Rothesay event shortly then!

I am dying to see events all over Scotland still, surely there must be some of you that travelled to Glasgow that would want something where you stay too

Hi Alan,
I agree any Mid-Week Meets would reduce the numbers , as obviously Fellow Fishes have Commitments, working the next day, travel ect, I mentioned the Opry as a possible venue , so that we could have a place all too ourselves & the seating capacity + the Dancing Floors/Bars ect. it would be ideal if available at weekends, of which i doubt it would be. I certainly like your Rothesay idea Alan & could open up other places to have a great day out in Scotland, or even BUS Runs down South as well, i would certainly try to make the Rothesay trip..

Rose and myself will be looking at Georgics Bar within the Millenium hotel for those who want a more sedate meet where people can just sit and have a quiet drink and a chat with a view over George Square. Will post when we've been to see it and look at how many it can hold comfortably. Not for everyone as I don't think there is any music, but for the people who want a quiet, relaxing night then this venue would be ideal.

Another meet idea i'll be looking into will be a picnic in Kelvingrove Park with a visit to the Art Gallery (optional) This will be a daytime meet, possibly a Sunday and will be open to fish and their families so weans, dugs, budgies etc will be welcome also. More than likely due to Scottish weather being so bad it'll be sometime in June/July.

Hi Mischka,
the answer to your question is all age groups, i have been to 2 Mini Meets & The March Madness Meet, & the Ages ranged from early 20s to us in our 60s, everybody mixed well & all were made very welcome by The Hosts of each event & of course by the Fellow Fishes, age is certainly not a Barrier, everyone mixed well & the Craic was brilliant. Check out the Meets Forum & you will see the future planned meets for the Scottish
Begining next Friday the 18th at Madness in Glasgows Waterloo St.
Go along & you will enjoy yourself & you will be made more than Welcome by the Lovely Linda, one of your Hosts, a Larger than life Character but, definately the salt of the Earth, Have a good time.

Regards Hughie.
