Hey there Suthn.........whenever you see another one of them tumbleweeds, try to catch it for me. I am starting a desert garden and could use them for decoration. Who knows, maybe if my garden does well, I could attract all the tumbleweeds and get them out of our way for some good times!

Hard to believe nothing set up for a May Meet and Greet. Closest thing is in June at Burgess Falls. Wishing there was more going on.......especially in East TN. Oh well, maybe we can get something thrown together if enough people were interested. Maybe another M & G at CEJ's or maybe Electric Cowboy......just some thoughts.

I'll sure do that LostButterfly!! Maybe we could spray it with shellac and preserve it for posterity.

Ain't it the truth tho? That one man/woman's curse is another one's blessing? Or something like that. (maybe not word-for-word).

And funny where art comes from too. Some of it is from the most unusual sources. A lot of folks create art from the strangest things. Tell us more about your desert garden willya? What's your vision for it going to be like? And where will this garden be?

Betcha OutoftheDesert might have some good desert art ideas..

Did you all Eastern folks have a M&G at Cotton-Eyed Joe's? And if so, how did it go? Some days I kinda wished I lived over thattaway meself. More to do, it seems to me. I don't think we have a nightclub like that'un here. I enjoy 'em, and I can get away with wearin' my 10-gallon hat and boots too! YeeeHaw!

Check out the thread on it, I think there were a few who might have met a match. I wound up dancing with a guy who is a friend of mine. One other guy asked me to dance then he found a woman he liked.

Well, my garden, like my others, are in my front yard. I started last year with a Yucca Plant in the center and when my mother and brother went out west they picked me up some seeds for desert flowers. I mixed my dirt and my sand to give it the most homelike start and planted my seeds as directed. Well, either it didn't like it or the cold was just too much for the little seeds and I have yet to see anything come up in it yet. Oh well, I will just consider adding some cactuses to it and try again if I can get some more seeds.

My other garden, which is thriving I must say, is a wildflower garden set in the center of river rocks. I did mixed some more non wildflowers in with it such as my creeping phlox and irises and tulips, but the wildflowers and their vibrant colors stand out the most. My next plan is a water feature using an old handpump for the fountain. I just have to figure out how to gut it so I can use it as such. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. As soon as the colors come out a little more I will get some pics and try to figure out how to get them posted.

Yes, there was a M&G at CEJ's last month, but my work schedule didn't allow me to attend. Oh well, there will be more. I do hope that you can make the one at Burgess Falls as I think it will be an absolutely beautiful trip with all the waterfalls and the butterfly garden. Still trying to find someone to keep an eye on me so I don't flutter away or get mixed in with the other butterflies. I just about have my mother talked into going with me to help keep me grounded, but she is afraid that at her age she will not fit in, but her looks are very deceiving to her actually age and I have told her that age is nothing more than a number anyways.

Anyways, appreicate that help with ya'll wrangling them tumbleweeds up for me.

Glad to read about your garden, but up on the plateau you better have a hot house or raise them cactus plants inside, I don't think they like your winter's even as short as they are. Me, can't give you advice I have a BLACK, thumb as they say, everything I plant don't grow, somehow I forget to water and in a drought like last year that's not good!!
The meet and greet was a great time. 4 Ladies had a birthday cake that week and a Birthday Cake was brought for enough to enjoy. Even some that wasn't there for that, ask for some and like it.
Don't let O.T.D. fool you, that Lady can Dance. Really knows how to do those line Dances. As far as Ladies surrounding me, it's because I was helping out people fill there name tags out and just making people comfortable. It's no fun to go to one of these things and nobody talks to you.
As far as my meet and greet, the age goes from 20's to 60's so have your Mother come or anybody that reads this. Know, you, South'n boy and I have sign up. were about to hit 50 and it's getting even, the last count I think there was 1 more Lady than Men. Now know just cause you sign up, you might not come for whatever reason, or the day of the event you decide to come. So the answer is, tell her yes come, she will keep you from flying away in that butterfly garden.

I am going to bring her along for sure CW, but I must warn you gents, for a lady that is turning 66 end of this month, she can run circles around me. Very youthful looking and acting.......gee, wish I look half as good as her when I am her age. BTW, don't tell that I told her age, she would and could still kick my tail.

As far as your "Black" thumb, I found the easiest way to remember to water plants is do it every Sunday. That is a special day in itself, and my mother says that she has always watered her plants (mostly inside though), on that day and she has always had pretty good luck.

Hugs to all,

CW, I am starting to truly believe that there is a democracy working against me on these M&G's. Again, as the last M&G at CEJ's, I am working that week and getting time off is not an option where I work, even though I did check out the thread. Oh well, guess you are stuck with me (and my mom) for the June 7th one.

Thanks for thinking of me though, it was sweet of ya!

We would love to see our fellow TN fishies swim upstream and join us at the Big Bone Lick marina campground! (Next town over is Beaver Lick.)We have the campground to ourselves as it does not open to the public until the next weekend. Live music Saturday night and I can guarantee a lot of fun! Check the thread on the Ohio forum (go to singles events -images) and catch up on the 71 pages of comments, or feel free to email me if you are interested in coming up and have questions. If I don't know the answer, I'll find someone that does and get back to you. The more, the merrier!

TNMan, as long as you call me when it's time for lunch, or when the BarBQ is ready, call me anything you like.

Geeze, I have to admit (blush) I honestly didn't even know where Oneida Tennessee was till just now. I looked it up on my trusty map thingie. Wow! That looks like some awesome territory up there north of K-ville, close to KY. Never been there! Is it moutainous and scenic, and stuff like that?

By the way, howdy 1HappyWoman from Ohio! Welcome to our humble little suth'n forum!

Suth'nBoy, it is quite beautiful here in little Oneida. We do have the Big South Fork Recreational Park which goes up into KY. It is beautiful and there are numerous trails to walk, bike, hike, and horseback ride on. I live within 15 min of being inside the park, so it makes it quite convenient for me when in the hiking or camping mood, which is often during the spring, summer, and fall.

Granted, it is nothing like the Smokey Mtns with all the tourist activities and such, but that may change one of these days, most likely not soon though. We have some great fishing areas also if one likes to river fish. Walleye, bass, brim, catfish, carp, etc. Not really any good areas to put a boat into that I know of right off hand, but you can never beat bank fishing in my book.

Ya'll take care and talk to ya soon!

Although hopefully not huh? Betcha most of the local folks would rather keep it peaceful and serene. At least I think I would. The Smokies are great, but that can be the big drawback, at certain times of year. Can't avoid the heavy onslaught of massive cars and out-of-towners, come to visit. They mostly mean well and all, but Whew! The little place goes into overload.

They just purchased three shuttles to use at Cades Cove to try to cut down on the amount of cars. I believe they hold 20 in each. That would eliminate 20-30 cars. The shuttle will pick up at Townsend Visitors Center and will go around the loop. A doyen will be on the trip to give a verbal bus tour about all the homes, trails and a history of the cove. That is great for tourists, but I like to just enjoy the quiet and the view. It is hard now with bumper to bumper and the people getting out of cars and picnicing and otherwise being in all the fields. At one time this was not allowed, but you can't arrest or run off all of them. It is not just the tourists, the locals are just as bad. There was also discussion of putting a monorail system in to eliminate all cars. The problem with the shuttle--what if you don't want to stop at each cabin? With the monorail, you could get off and do your thing and then catch the next one if there were seats. The pollution and noise are the biggest problems and littering is becoming one. Sadly the wildlife is diminishing as there is no quite place for them. I saw a baby bear eating berries and the tourists went nuts. Momma bear came bellowing out of the woods and they got mad at her. Luckily, no one was hurt. What would the humans have done if a bunch of strangers had surrounded their child and began screaming, hollering and taking photographs? They will feed the wildlife and then get upset when wildlife do what they do to be protective of their foodsource or young. I am not blaming tourists, as I said, the locals are just as bad.

If you like to fish, the mountains have some of the best trout fishing--bank or fly. Flyfishing is what I plan to learn to do this summer, even if I have to teach myself.

If you would like to do trout, I believe it is Rainbow Trout that I caught, but I know the best place to go and not that many go there. Either they don't like to fish , although I don't understand anyone not liking it, or they don't know about it. I have found it to be quiet and serene. Have taken my little boat, paddles only, no motor, out and have had good luck with Bass, Brim, and of course the Trout. If ya'll want to head this way sometime, come on, I will show you the little hideaway fishing hole.

So you've got a secret spot up there eh LostButterfly? Where they grow big, and in abundance, just there for the catching? Haven't done that in years. But it is great fun.

I've got a secret spot too, but it's a little further away than yours and I don't get there as often as I'd like. The north shore of Maui, in the Hawaiian Chain.. Where crystal clear surf crashes into jagged black lava-rock cliffs, producing sand on the endless beach that looks like pristine mounds of sugar.. Where the serene beach backs up to jagged mountains jutting high into the sky, and where palm trees bend almost to the ground, under the relentless trade winds overhead, and where whales come to roost among the many coves along the seashore. And where colorful lifeforms thrive on the ocean floor that we can hardly imagine. You can get lost in the serenity of it all. It's almost enough to make us forget to start breathing again.

I don't think there's a more beautiful place on the globe..

I need to get to the Cove to look in the church grave yards for a distant relative, I found he was a preacher at the primitive baptist church. I love going through at my own pace, yet the cars behind me are tail gating and seem in a hurry to get through, why drive the loop if you're not interested in seeing anything?

They have purchased some shuttles and will use them from the Townsend Visitors Center and around the loop to try and rid some of the traffic. I have not been to the Cove in years, the beauty is still there but you can't see it for all the people in the fields and the bumper to bumper traffic. I understand that tourist boost our economy, but the locals don't respect the area either.

Hate to say it O.T.D. but I have been now down here long enough, 19 years to have learned all the back roads and way to get around. Been coming down here to this side of Tn, since the 1950's because my Grandparents were living here.
Have learn to avoid Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Cades Cove and the Great Smoky Mtns between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
The traffic and the tourist's is just to much. With Gas prices just keep going up, more and more people will vacation near home.
So I do enjoy local area's, just go off season, or early or late during the day.
Enjoy the beauty of Tn, it's getting less and less but still is the state for me. Could never take a Northern winter again.

Take Care All.
