8. You should believe the lies I'm telling you, instead of pointing out the inconsistencies.

Beautiful

I usually get the "You think too much" when I start to find the "inconsistencies" (or in common language - lies) and try to make sense of it.

I should have been a P.I., I notice EVERYTHING, and if someones walk and their talk don't jive I'm all over it. I HAVE to solve the mystery!

2 things:
a.) guy wants to squiggle out of a situation that requires taking a position
b.)girl is creating psychodrama out of nothing,in which case NO reply is the right one

Well... guys are simple (from a guys perspective). If we say good morning to a coworker and they don't reply we generally shrug it off and forget about it. We don't start thinking what that particular coworker might think of us or are they mad at us? or did I speak too low? or, or, or.

In your situation he assumes his behavior is ok and you are reading too much into the behavior and applying meaning where there is none. That would be my guess.

I was sort of in a relationship with a woman who said that. Some women and men prefer are not very verbal and prefer to feel, trust, take their time rather than talk a lot. They are reserved in some ways and they consider talking too much a use of a lot of energy for nothing. He probably thought there was nothing to work out, and that you should give things time. It is not about being independent. It is a style of communication and of being. It has its merits, but sometimes it can go too far...

I do a lot of things very nonchalantly, someone commenting on something I said earlier in passing thought or just out of fun would probably prompt the response "Hm, I don't know, you're thinking about it too much" from me. If they were to do it a bit more often I would probably tell them they think too much.
