| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/21/2008 6:40:33 PM | With a shut out for Price in Game 7. Yay! He sure has a bright future ahead of him.
I work out on my treadmill while I watch the games, and almost fell off getting excited watching this one... but tomorrow's game seven will be even worse... LMAO.
Edit: ^ Ovechkin really came through tonight it looks like. Bout time for that kid!
|
| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/21/2008 6:44:20 PM | Yeah, those two goals from AO were great!! The last goal was a BULLET!!!

| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/21/2008 8:41:25 PM | | Dallas won, now the Habs won, now... - trifecta??? | |
|
| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/21/2008 10:38:48 PM | | ^ if you mean the Capitals are gonna win tomorrow night with Ovechkin once again scoring the winning goal, then yes, TRIFECTA!!! | |
|
| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/22/2008 1:15:29 AM | | Yes, the holy trifecta, the trinity....the power of AO complels thee! Gawd, I so hope that Ovechkin and company prevails over the Flyers and that the Sharks cast the wannabe mutants from Brokeback county into the eternal fire. Lol...Go Sharks Go!!!!!! | |
|
| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/22/2008 3:30:27 AM | Screw the sharks how many times have the sharks beaten the flames in 18 years what 9 times in regulation and 2 in ot. they had their chance and blew it time for the flames to get a rematch with the wings again. Sharks have never won a series vs the flames in the playoffs and last year was the first time the wings beat the the flames in the playoffs. Now that the habbies are in we need 1 more canadian team or its back to us dominating the stanley cup which sucks for us canadians
, come to think of it the Habs were the last canadian team to win the cup.
I personally wanna see the flames and habs back in the final again so a canadian team is sure to win. Don't know what the oiler fans thinks but I remember 50,000 flames flags on cars back when the flames were playing tampa and I remember the same amount of oiler flags in calgary when the oil were playing carolina. Flames or Habs lets get it back in canada.
Also a note the habs were 26-0 when leading a series 3-1 and the bruin were 0-20 when down 3-1 looks like that continues.
Also go caps go.
Do the oilers still have a team :)

| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/22/2008 3:56:29 AM | why is it so important for Canada to win a Stanley Cup? That has no relevance whatsoever to the state of hockey. Is it better that a bunch of Europeans playing hockey in Quebec win the Cup, or that a bunch of Canadian playing hockey in Philadelphia win the Cup?
If nationalistic pride really matters, you should be cheering for the team with the most born and raised Canadians on it. I couldn't be bothered trying to figure out which team that is in the first round (I will do it in Round 2) but my guess is that it is NOT the team playing with the CH on their chests.
Then again ranger, your post lost all credibility when you ended it with "go Caps go" lol

why is it so important for Canada to win a Stanley Cup? That has no relevance whatsoever to the state of hockey. I'd wager similar perspectives weren't uncommon back when Americans decided that game with the funny shaped ball was kinda interesting too. Nowadays the CFL isn't even a farm-team for NFL despite predating it notably. I'd just hate to see hockey go the same way or similar so............ Go Flames! even Go Habs.

why is it so important for Canada to win a Stanley Cup? That has no relevance whatsoever to the state of hockey. Well... for me, it has alot to do with the fact that the Cup has been down south for 13 years... How am I going to meet Lord Stanely if he's so far away?
lol
Still can't bring myself to cheer on the Flames though, even though the cup would be closer than Montreal... (but then, the way my cheering tends to send games, Flames are sure to win)

| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/22/2008 7:34:21 AM | "I'd wager similar perspectives weren't uncommon back when Americans decided that game with the funny shaped ball was kinda interesting too."
Not even close to a proper comparison. American football and Canadian football are as similar as CFL and rugby .... the original sport with that "funny shaped ball".
You're comparing two different sports. NHL in Washington and NHL in Montreal are still the same sport.
|
| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/22/2008 8:03:02 AM | | No by Trifecta I mean the Sharks need to win tonight - silly!!!! | |
|
| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/22/2008 8:32:26 AM | Ok I crunched the numbers and this year it is a Canadian team that has the most Canadians. In fact, BOTH Canadian teams are 1-2. Here's the list:
Calgary - 18 Montreal - 16 Philly - 15 Colorado - 14 San Jose - 13 Dallas - 13 Washington - 11 Pittsburgh - 11 Detroit - 11 New York - 9
Source: NHL.COM
So this year, cheering for a Canadian team really does mean cheering for a Canadian team.

I can't agree on that one but I will agree that a similar fate is virtually impossible to befall hockey anymore. Regarding the "no comparison" part though, it's still a quarterback with so many downs to move a ball so far in order to still be the offense and try and repeat, til ya get the ball to the opponents end or fail and then it's their turn. Kickoffs, fieldgoals, passes, touchdowns and conversions etc. The differences are just numbers but it's basically the same game. I can't see how the comparison is similar to the original game with that funny shaped ball, rugby. A wee bit in common but fairly obviously a totally different game.

| Back to the Oilers... euh... the Habs sorry (hihi) Posted: 4/22/2008 9:13:39 AM | Fox, I know how you feel. I would rather cheer for an American team than having to cheer for the damn Leafs or Sens. I got no hatred whatsoever regarding the Sens. I just simply don't care for them. they leave me cold...
Prairie Pundit:
<div class="quote">why is it so important for Canada to win a Stanley Cup? That has no relevance whatsoever to the state of hockey. Is it better that a bunch of Europeans playing hockey in Quebec win the Cup, or that a bunch of Canadian playing hockey in Philadelphia win the Cup?
Both teams have 18 North Americans on their roster (14 Canadians), so i don't think the Habs have been entirely "infected" (j/k) with Europeans just yet. Not as much as the Sens anyway. I include Americans as being local since most of them grew up Habs fan and around the Quebec border. I think having local players is more important very often than talent alone. The 93 Habs, who were the last Canadian team to have won the cup had all but North Americans, including 16 local players, who had the CH tattooed on their chest. They were far from being the best team in the league. As a matter of fact, they finished 3rd... in their division! But they won despite all the so-called experts predictions. And they won with their Hearts... and some divine intervention from above
We'll see how they do against either the Flyers or the Rangers. Bring 'em on!
GO HABS GOOOOO!
edit: oh Prairie, just saw your post there! so there is 16 Canadian players on the Habs roster then... edit II: yeah, i didn't count right the first time... i forgot those goalies! loll

The CFL and the NFL are two different games. If you can't agree on that, then you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. You were comparing the CFL/NFL to hockey in the U.S. vs. hockey in Canada. That's comparing apples and oranges.
As for La romantique ... I should have made it clear on my first post, that my example of the Habs was purely hypothetical ... I wasn't insinuating that this Habs team is inundated with Europeans ... it was more of a "what if" kind of thing. Sorry about the confusion.

You were comparing the CFL/NFL to hockey in the U.S. vs. hockey in Canada. Comparing, yes. Equating one with the other, not at all. Really I was just lightly implying that we sold the game of football to the US and I'd hate to see hockey suffer their far more vast financial influences too much too. (to that point where do highly talented CFLers end up and why?) Obviously NHL hockey's the same game north and south of the border. Same league. I suppose I just forget how critical and analytical the pond can be sometimes. Far from my intent to start a senseless argument.

I know, but my attention deficit disorder demands that I take artistic license with whatever is presented to me.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO Ovechkin JUST scored though and tied it!
Edit: Thank god I wasn't on the treadmill for that one, I almost fell off my chair.
|
| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/22/2008 5:35:22 PM | | YEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!! Damn!! I haven't celebrated a non-Oiler goal like that since the Tampa victory four years ago...aahhh, Feds burning the Flames...still have fond memories! Well, I'm sure I'll celebrate a few of the Sharks goals tonight like that. Awesome! I like AO....he'll look great in an Oilers jersey. | |
|
| Back to the Oilers Posted: 4/22/2008 5:37:17 PM | OH OH OH Fox! I have the best idea!
Go enter the CBC contest where you win Mark Messier bringing you the Cup to party, then invite all of us. Then you'd be able to touch Stanley! And I'd be able to touch Messier... err... never mind.
K I gotta go sit down on something without wheels for a bit.
