| HNIC - a Canadian institution? Posted: 6/5/2008 4:53:13 PM | | Look in "hockey anyone". There's a link for a protest regarding the song/anthem but it dead-ended when I tried it. | |
| HNIC - a Canadian institution? Posted: 6/5/2008 5:03:26 PM | The woman who created the theme has been collecting royalties since 1968. Apparently, they have to shell out $500 every single time they play it. That sucks! I hope it is not a financial decision that causes us to lose something that is a readily identifiable symbol of Canadiana and the only other stimulus that causes mens' heads to pivot on a swivel. | |
| HNIC - a Canadian institution? Posted: 6/5/2008 5:12:51 PM | | Yeah, sad if it can't be resolved concerning money. The sound makes more folks heads pop up than a wailing siren, here in Canada anyhoo | |
| HNIC - a Canadian institution? Posted: 6/5/2008 5:27:04 PM | | Arrggghhh...found a link for petitioning HNIC to stop showing so much Leafs content, but nothing regarding our theme song. Perhaps we should create one. | |
| HNIC - a Canadian institution? Posted: 6/5/2008 5:47:56 PM | and the only other stimulus that causes mens' heads to pivot on a swivel. Why do you think I have it as a ring tone, and make my mother call me every half hour... heh... lol
I cannot believe they are going to replace that SONG!! Didn't they threaten to do that last year as well?
It's ingrained in our minds and hearts... It would be an absolute shame if they pull that song!

| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 1:31:53 AM | | Damn that Pocklington! Just read that he put all of his Stanley Cup rings up for auction so that supposedly he could fund his grandchildrens' education. Winning bid was around $300,000 USD for all 5 rings. The good thing is that the anonymous winning bidder hails from Oil Country, so it's coming home. Hmmm....let's see....someone from Oil Country that has that kind of money kicking around and has a vested interest in the Oilers....hmmm....who could it be? | |
| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 7:13:36 AM | Well we can be pretty sure it's not somebody from the EIG, as they haven't gotten a cheque yet and they're still crossing their fingers and hoping the Oilers sale is finalized this month. | |
| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 8:19:29 AM | So, now that it is all final - and I mean the HNIC theme. What does everyone think of CTV now woning the Rights to what was the HNIC theme song? personally, life will never be the same. I am not looking forward to Darreny D and Rod Black with -da da danada in the back ground. It just ain't 'cricket' to quote Austin. thoughts? | |
| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 8:31:30 AM | I think CTV has some smart people running the show, and CBC bigwigs have drool-stained clothes with mismatched socks on.
License to print money | |
| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 9:38:53 AM | | You almost get the feeling that the bigwigs at CBC thought they could just get rid of it and public would get over it easily. I'm not surprised in the least by the reaction in Canada, but was quite surprised how big of a story it became in the US. Man o man! Even The Colbert Report and a few other notable comedy shows poked fun at our plight. | |
| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 10:24:21 AM | | I doubt we've heard the last about this little mess yet. On a brighter note and more on topic I guess, it sounds like Glencross and management are making headway with negotiations. He'll likely never be a superstar or anything, but I still think he has pretty good potential, and for a mil and change, would be a good investment. | |
| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 10:36:25 AM | | Absolutely. Glencross is the perfect fit for his line. Now if we could just find a legit 1st line center...............................Oh Matts........... | |
| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 11:41:27 AM | I'm actually surprised that we might keep him! I thought he had increased his value to the point where management might pass over him. Let's hope that line continues their exceptional play next season.
By the way, here is a link to that Colbert Report skit:

lol...heck, even the good ol' Edmonton mayor had an appearance.
| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/12/2008 12:26:15 PM | Arrrgh.... How can he make fun of our horrible situation!!!! lol
T'was funny though. Thanks Tick Tock!

| Bored of The Rings Posted: 6/17/2008 11:44:01 PM | | What happens when you get more than 8 rings, where do you wear the others? | |
| It's about frickin time!! Posted: 6/18/2008 3:12:02 AM | ^ Don't worry, Ranger..that's a problem that players from your favourite team will never have to worry about.
On a positive note, they FINALLY are going to induct Anderson into the Hockey Hall of Fame!

| It's about frickin time!! Posted: 6/18/2008 5:29:17 AM | Yeah, always though Anderson had earned that tribute. Gonna be nice seing Buchburger behind the Oilers bench again too, even without his skates on. There's a bitta news about the Oilers sale today hopefully too. NHL commission's findings regarding the team's sale to Katz is supposed to be done today.
Why'd they hafta pick a "full moon" date?
| The future looks even brighter. Posted: 7/2/2008 9:50:07 AM | I just wanted to get the Oilers thread offa life support again.
A few quips of late actually, and I'm nursing a sunburn anyhoo.
Katz is finally "Officially" the MAN. Looks like he's getting his wallet out too as promised.
Couple noteworthy roster changes recently. Torres fizzled a bit too much last year so he's gone for a local Edmonton kid Gilbert Brule. Eric Cole tries on the blue and gold, as do Visnovsky and Potulny. Sadly, Matt Greene is gone, along with Pitkanen and Stoll. Bitta other news too, and a HUGE rumor that has Hossa talking quite a bit with the Oilers.
Should be an interesting year.
C'mon, drop the darn puck already!
| The future looks even brighter. Posted: 7/2/2008 11:26:18 AM | Hossa signed with the Wings so that sweepstakes is over.
Good news - more money for players, bad news - Detroit gets THAT much better
| The future looks even brighter. Posted: 7/2/2008 12:56:57 PM | but now Calgary, of all teams!!! has Glencross. I'm sure it's not the end of the world for us but it really sucks to see him go to Calgary. | |
| The future looks even brighter. Posted: 7/2/2008 6:12:19 PM | another rumor circulating on the radio today was that with Hossa gone to Detroit, that Jagr was talking to Edmonton - could be kewl! Not as much fun to say as Yurki Lume (sp?)though. glad the sale is final - now maybe we can carry on? | |
| |
| The future looks even brighter. Posted: 7/3/2008 10:09:35 AM | Glencross in Calgary does hurt...
Was anyone else surprised with the Stoll trade? I mean, I heard rumors, but never thought it would happen. Torres doesn't surprise me at all... I actually thought they would have let him go last season.
OE: The Flames thread is already gittin' ugly!! lol

| The future looks even brighter. Posted: 7/3/2008 11:35:00 AM | | Actually Stoll was a RFA (as was Pitkanen I think) and just didn't live up to expectations so I'm not really too shocked. I cursed him more than anyone I can ever recall for coughing up the puck in his own end for no real good reason actually. I didn't like giving up Greene in the deal but Visnovsky sounds like he may be worth it. | |
| The future looks even brighter. Posted: 7/3/2008 5:36:41 PM | Stoll's supermodel girlfriend is based there - am I surprised? Nope, not so much. Laracque was rumoured to be coming back too but now he's signed with Montreal. Jagr is the only one left who really is worth anything although Morrison from Vancouver would be okay. What about Shannie!? | |
