Moved the wife and kids here and was setting up for a future, then things went to pieces and he couldn't stop anything. I guess his kids have come home crying enough times though, and he decided he could still stop that. Family's left for Ontario last week | |

As for Roli, yes, this is sad :(
During our run for the cup, he was "the Wall". Over the last couple of years, he seemed to have had lost his composure. His emotions clouded his judgement, which seemed to have affected his game.

Aree, the Flames/Oilers banter has gone on for YEARS now . For the most part it's in jest, and with a competitive spirit. YOU, alone, turned our other thread into a fight (twice in that thread, with two different people, if I recall), only to have our thread deleted in the end.
You are a fan of the Flames? WOOT! Go for it.... But until you understand the game (as you've admitted over, and OVER that you DO NOT) and the banter and fun between the teams, then please, please go back to your own thread.

I also defended Roli as a starter. That was back when he could stop a puck. Hockey, like any professional sport, is very much a "what have you done for me lately" industry and with only half a season of good times to draw upon, Roli's leash was short in that regard.
I'm sorry his kids were being teased though. | |

Well... I don't agree with that, because being a back up goalie is nothing to be ashamed of. Garon outshined him this year, and that's all there is to it.
I DO agree that I think he's pouting. His ego took a hit with Garon being named starter goalie, and that only proves how overly senstive he's become. Roli has kind of been reminding me of Kiprusoff this year. Kip's ego MUST be stroked in order for him to play decently. Any kind of harsh critisizm, and the guy melts like butter.
Hence why they play him so much, and rarely give the back up goalie a chance to play. (and someday, it will bite them in the ars) ((fingers crossed)) | |

Think you're confused again, Mystical...surprise, surprise. We were arguing about whether or not Roli was a backup his entire career until he came to Edmonton. That's ok...I would have expected nothing less from you.

All the stuff about Roli's kids being teased and moving east to escape the harassment is a buncha hooey. Musta been a slow day for the press or something. Even the "family heading east" story was all blown outta proportion, and is part of his family's normal lifestyle.

well, lets say you're a backup goalie.
you don't play a lot. and you see all your teamates having fun on the ice. playing. scoring. and you got that other goalie.
Geez. he's good. he stops everything.
he's working on his 15th shoutout in a row.
heck. the WHOLE team is on a roll. they're on top of the conference.
you're "happy". the team is winning. they're going for the cup.
you're in the corner all alone. everybody forgets about you. even the house announcers forgets your name...
you're happy that the team is winning.
But. foque! you wanna play too...
you wanna contribute!
you wish that in some way. or another. that the goddamn team you're playing for would start LOSING...
even worst. you wish that the goalie would have an injury.
ha geez. i don't want it to be this way. geez. he's such a nice guy. he was the best man at my wedding.
yadayadayada
then.
the team starts losing.
the star goalie is struggling. a lot. he can't even make a save on a beach ball...
how does the goalie react?
HE FEELS BAD. AWFUL!
He finally gets to play. but man. he feels awful.
Being a backup goalie in the NHL is probably the toughest job for mental health.
and one prerequisite: you need to be very good at playing POKER.
