Trade deadline's looming

Wow. More great news. Oh well, we knew that they wouldn't make the playoffs, but I was at least hoping we would mess up Burke's draft pick.

Hey, a win for you guys last night was a loss for the Avs, which at this point is good for us!

I knew you guys would support us in our hour of need! ;)

"I was at least hoping they would that we would mess up Burke's draft pick."

At least we know it won't end up as Toronto's draft pick, now that Mats has said no to waiving his no trade clause. That would be even worse, seeing the Leafs get it

^ Amen to that!

By the way, did anyone else find it a little weird to watch Pitkanen rough up Smyth in front of the net? Mixed emotions on that play because Pits did the right thing, but it is still odd to see Smyth trying to score on us or screen our goalie and the ensuing roughing...ah well, that's the way it goes.

Uber, I think we have two games left against the Flames, so we might have to play spoilers.

That's okay Tick.

If our record against you this season is indicated, we might let you win one of them. ;)

WOO HOO!!!!!

I truly had that "DOOM" feeling again tonight, then going into the third period, it lifted, and I was feeling optimistic..... THEN.... ACK!! A take over in the third by Detroit... (I tell ya, I'm a JINX)

When it was nearing the possibility of a shoot out, I wondered who they would put in for Horcoff... I said to my neighbor "NILSSON, he'd be good, wouldn't he?"

And up goes Nilsson......

WOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!

I sprung for the game on PPV tonight. We blew the lead and were down 3-2 (Garon admitted himself he let in the soft third one, otherwise he was freakin' spectacular), then tied it with about 30 seconds left. The shootout was awesome, Nillson finally scored on the third one. Pitkanen took a shot on the ankle and didn't come back, hopefully not another injury.

Great game in any case, well worth the money. I laughed when I ordered it and told the Starchoice guy I was probably paying to watch my team lose, he replied "I'm in Toronto, I feel your pain."

And we now officially hold the all-time record for most games won in the shoot-out.

Soft one? Geez...it was pretty much an empty netter the way he played it. I was pretty disgusted with that one. Weak goal. He looked like single-ply toilet paper vs. hardcore diarrhea.

Anyway, I was watching the game at a bar with about 5 Oiler fans and one diehard Wings fan. LOL! The look on his face when we won it in the shootout. Priceless!

Okay I have never compared a goalie's performance to... uhh... what you said. I think the rest of his play made up for that goal though.

Of course we won in the shootout!

So.... no comments on K. Lowe's comments yesterday?

"I've spoken with 28 GM's, and even talked to SUTTER! But only 28, not 29........" and the place erupted with laughter.

(btw, not exact quotes, just going by the memory of....... ME!! lol)

I really like K.Lowes demeaner (though I still wonder about himafter Smyth). He has a way of making the Hissy Pissy, Spitting Refuse, Princesses of hockey, smart A$$ed, GM's come out.....

but, discreetly...... ahem...

LOL!!

Glad he can laugh about it Fox... but in light of the Oilers' season, and the fact the Burke is probably going to get a lottery ball out of the deal, who do you think is laughing louder?

Burke was a whiner about the whole deal, no doubt. To have the audacity to believe he was owed a phone call before the offer sheet was givent to Penner is laughable. And the way he carried on whining about it for months afterwards was pitiful.
But his comment that it was "a desperate act by a GM struggling to keep his job" rings even truer in hindsight than it did the day he said it.

BUT!! Between the two GM's... who kept their cool? Who went ahead with business deals no matter what, AND kept a straight, cool, business face?

And p.s... Burke IS STILL WHINING ABOUT IT!!

(I have to say, I am NOT a LOWE fan, for the record)

Totally agree that Lowe was, is and likely always will be the more professional of the two.

(But as much as I am in no way a Brian Burke fan, I will give him his due. His is one of the top GMs in all of hockey, if not the top.)

Nice win! Loved the first Hemsky goal, but I was a bit worried that he may have injured himself on the play. Not that we're any strangers to injury.

Went to the Nucks/Avs game the other day and it was nice to see Smyth (even in that Avs uniform). Weird though, I don't think he's 100% yet. He seemed to cause more turnovers then anything and I remember when the Nucks had them trapped in their own zone for around 2 minutes, Smyth iced the puck twice!! Also, it looks like he forgot the concept of backchecking as he just hung around the blue line (their blueline, not his own) while the rest of his team were racing back to defend the zone. Oh well. Fun game to watch but the best part was watching that guy win a million dollars.

I have to agree. Burke is a whiny, bloated pig of a man, but he is a great GM.

Good old Hemsky!
Haven't we pawned that bum off yet? And that dude dressed in all the big fluffy pillows? They gotta be worth some good beer-money at least. Just kidding, and that new guy at the helm doesn't sound like he'll be playing that way anyhoo *fingers crossed*
Pretty darn impressive stickhandling I must say, especially with a bad wrist. Too bad Gagner's assist was a game too late for the record he was chasing but I still think he'll sleep alright. Nilsson's startin to shine a fair bit more these days too.
Then there's Garon. Usually deserves at least a few pats on the back regardless of the results. Hard to believe the Oilers goals against is over 20 goals higher than the rest of such a tight division's average. He sure seems to like them shoot-outs more and more.
Too bad about that 3rd week of February or we'd be right in the pack hunting for a playoff spot. At least not one of the teams we're chasing has less than 1 game against us left. 2 for several so it's up to the boys bigtime now. Next is 11th place Columbus and we're only 2 points back. Better start pulling a few horseshoes outta ............

Speaking of Garon... Was anyone else chewing their nails to the bone when he was hurt in the first?

Bet L.A. is kicking themselves for losing Garon now eh? Cloutier has got nothing on Garon.

Cloutier has got nothing on anyone. His greatest claim to fame was letting in a goal from centre ice.

Just watching the Avs/Kings game and Jack Johnson just checked Ryan Smyth into the post just after the players' benches. He was knocked out cold on the ice and they had to take him off the ice on a stretcher. It looked ugly! The worst part is that he's only been back 9 games since his injury and this was his best game yet. He had two goals in the second. I'm thinking it might be an ugly third period.

That's a relief! I thought for sure he'd be suffering the effects of a concussion for a few games. He was unconscious for some time on the ice.

No doubt, Prairie. We'll have to use that as a bargaining chip to get hometown discounts from our players.
