| It ain't over til it's over Posted: 3/4/2008 11:08:43 AM | I LOVE the OT and SO's!.... I say keep those, but whoever wins in the end gets the 2 points. No points for the loser.
There just HAS to be a winner and a loser in a game. Leaving it at a tied game wouldn't be worth the time watching it. At a tied game, both teams would be considered winners (if each gets a point), when in reality, there IS NO REAL WINNER! The game needs to finish (just like any other game, be it Scrabble or Hockey)

| It ain't over til it's over Posted: 3/4/2008 11:55:52 AM | | I have to agree. I dislike the last ten minutes of most third periods when there is a tie, because most teams are playing for the guaranteed point. The Oilers, however, make their third periods interesting in that you never know if they're going to blow a lead or tie a game up or piss away a single point by allowing a late goal. Once the OT arrives, I find it exciting and once it gets to a shootout, it a hoot for most Oiler fans. I wonder where the Oilers would be if there were only two points awarded, because we have given up a lot of single points to teams in our division and conference (Calgary, Vancouver, etc). We would lose obviously the 5 "loser points" but we have given up at least 14 of them to other teams. The Flames, I believe, have 9 "loser points", the Blues have 10 points, the Nucks have 10 points and the the Blue Jackets have 10 points. | |

| It ain't over til it's over Posted: 3/4/2008 2:21:31 PM | OILERS' GAGNER NAMED NHL ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
NEW YORK -- Edmonton Oilers center Sam Gagner, who led all rookies in scoring with 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 12 games, has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for February.
Gagner edged New York Rangers center Brandon Dubinsky (6-5--11 in 12 games), Phoenix Coyotes center Peter Mueller (4-7--11 in 14 games), Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews (3-7--10 in 10 games) and Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price (5-2-0, 2.33 goals-against average, .925 save percentage, one shutout) for the award.
Gagner recorded points in 10 of 12 games during the month, including a nine-game point streak from Feb. 4-24 (3-9--12). He tallied multiple-point games against Calgary, Feb. 4 (1-1--2), Chicago, Feb. 6 (0-2--2) and Nashville, Feb. 19 (1-1--2).
Edmonton's first choice and the sixth overall selection at the 2007 Entry Draft, Gagner registered 118 points (35 goals, 83 assists) in 53 games for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League last season. The 5-11, 191-lb. London, Ontario native represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2007, winning a gold medal.
Born Aug. 10, 1989, the 18-year-old Gagner is the youngest player in the NHL. The League's second-youngest player, 19-year-old Chicago Blackhawks rookie Patrick Kane, was born Nov. 19, 1988.
Gagner joins previous 2007-08 Rookie of the Month winners Kane (October), Atlanta Thrashers defenseman Tobias Enstrom (November), Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom (December) and Mueller (February).

because you just know they're going to crap the bed against Nashville
Arrggghhh!! Nashville is our bean burrito. I hate (sorry, strongly dislike) Nashville and Minnesota...they always have our number.
|
| Off night Posted: 3/4/2008 8:44:18 PM | | And those other 23 teams that regularly beat you too, right? ;) | |
|
| Off night Posted: 3/5/2008 5:41:39 AM | Tough loss for the Oilers, but 55 seconds in for the first goal??
The table was set for an upsetting finish when that happens!!
Fridays game should be a good warm-up h'orderve for the main entree.....
...of course I refer to The Flames !!
|
| Columbus Game Posted: 3/7/2008 8:55:20 PM | Gave away a point when we let them tie with 0.8 seconds left in the game. Thankfully won it in OT, but still...
Missed the Stortini fight in the first, but it was a good one apparently.
New kid up from the minors, whose name I now can't recall, looks pretty good. Knows how to hit anyway.
|
| Columbus Game Posted: 3/8/2008 6:20:49 AM | | Less than a second left. Poor old Garon just couldn't hang on for another breath. Bummer | |
|
| Columbus Game Posted: 3/8/2008 11:24:18 AM | OMG!! I'm IN CALGARY!! .... and the OILERS WON, FLAMES LOST!!!
Best trip EVER for Fox!! LMAO!

|
| Fingers crossed Posted: 3/9/2008 1:50:47 PM | Wow! What a barn-burner. 3 apiece after 2. Nice to see Penner picking up the pace notably the last handful of games. If he keeps it up, he'll be a SOMEBODY before too long. | |
|
| Fingers crossed Posted: 3/9/2008 2:36:16 PM | | Wow...how many 20-year-olds can score in the same game? | |
|
| Fingers crossed Posted: 3/9/2008 2:43:44 PM | The injured players haven't really hurt us all that much given the fact the youngsters have been given a chance to play. Cogliano and Gagner have proven their worth and continue to shine. Thank you Andrew Cogliano!!! Back to back overtime winners!!!! | |
|
| Smilin' Posted: 3/9/2008 3:06:20 PM | That was one awesome game. 6-5 Oilers in OT. Yeah, Cogliano's starting to shine alot more these days too. Too bad the boys didn't get thier poop grouped a month or so earlier. The playoff race'd be unreal. Still some great hockey regardless. Anybody else think the big rule crackdown in the last couple years seems to be easing off a fair bit regarding being unkind to the goalies? Maybe even a tad TOO much. As for the 20 year olds, their #s are growing alot so one never knows | |
|
| Fingers crossed Posted: 3/9/2008 3:15:42 PM | | Is anyone going to either of the home games March 20 against Vancouver or March 22 against the Avs? Maybe we can all meet downstairs for a beer between periods. | |
|
| Fingers crossed Posted: 3/10/2008 9:34:01 PM | GEEZ!! Almost had to go to second page to find this thread!!
... I especially liked the OILER WIN/FLAMES LOSS!! ...
I predict a role reversal for the next Alberta double header, Thursday isn't it??
| |
|
| Fingers crossed Posted: 3/10/2008 10:25:40 PM | | It ain't over til it's over Duff! We still have a lot of play left in us and you can't count us out yet. | |
|
| Fingers XXX crossed Posted: 3/11/2008 5:18:52 AM | Hi Duff. Next "Battle of Alberta's" on the 29th actually, then again on April fools day. The next 2 Thursdays have notably more IMPORTANT games though. for the Oilers anyhoo Colorado then Vancouver, #7 & #8 in our conference. Heck, if I had a MAGIC marker and could write down todays scores even, the race'd be a nailbiter again.
Glad to hear your birthday was such an enjoyable event too
|
| Fingers XXX crossed Posted: 3/11/2008 4:01:57 PM | Good luck you guys!
If by some miracle you win tonight, and every other team in our Conference loses, you guys get 2 points closer to that much coveted 8th playoff spot in the west!
|
| Fingers XXX crossed Posted: 3/11/2008 4:29:50 PM | | With a win tonight they surpass last year's point total. | |
