| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/4/2009 12:23:51 PM | I think it's only going to be a matter of time before Comrie is signed, especially if he has a good training camp with them. Tambellini said there were no talks with Comrie; today Comrie comes out to say they're talking. Make up your mind already. What does Tambellini have to gain by denying what everyone already knows?! | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/10/2009 3:25:31 PM | There ya go smilie. (ya might wanna grab a chair 'n sit down for this one ) They just inked a 1 year deal with Comrie. Allegedly for 1.125 mil (that's swallowable) but I'm still not too sure we really need him. Hopefully he proves that theory wrong this season. | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/10/2009 3:34:35 PM | | I'm kinda hoping they signed Comrie in anticipation of a pending trade of some sort.......otherwise were getting too small on the frontline...... | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/10/2009 9:45:15 PM | I liked Comrie at the start of his career then, like the majority of Oiler fans, soured. He does awutomatically become the team's best goal scorer though. He's the only Oiler that is a proven (2x) 30-goal scorer. If he can hit those numbers again, it's a sweet deal. If he can't improve on the 15-goal seasons of late though, he will get booed off the ice.
One thing is for sure though. Tambellini is turning this into his team. First he reunites with the Vancouver coaching team, then brings in a guy that Kevin Lowe had a severe dislike for, at the end of his first tenure in Edmonton. If all signings had to go directly through KL, as has been suggested, I doubt this deal would have happened. Tambellini must have a certain amount of atonomy from the VP.
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/11/2009 11:22:18 PM | | Well I am not a Comrie fan in the least but $1.125M is a good deal for a player like him. I can still never forgive the guy for sleeping with Salo's wife and messing up such a great goalie. I would really still like to see that kid get smacked with the giant brick that was his daddy's company logo for so long, but still, a good deal for the money in this league right now. | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/14/2009 10:20:58 AM | | Mike Comrie will have the perfect opportunity to endear himself to Oiler fans for good come Nov. 27. All he has to do is drop the gloves with Dany Heatly, when the Sharks pay their first visit to Edmonton. Even if Heatly refuses to fight, Comrie would be an instant hero by dropping him with a couple of shots to the head | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/15/2009 8:21:02 AM | | Tonight's game against the Flames will be streamed live on the Oilers' website. WOOHOO!!!!! | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/15/2009 9:00:24 AM | EEEEEEEEEEEEEYAY!!!!!!!!!!
Let's do it!! T'was a looooong summer!
Oilers jersey, check. Kids Oilered up, check. 24 in the fridge, check. Oiler's website up, check. Excitement raging, CHECK!! MacT's gaping maw ........ *sniff, pout*

| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/15/2009 10:22:34 AM | MacT's gaping maw ........ *sniff, pout*
All's not lost though Fox. MacT's now a member of the TSN broadcasting crew performing in a handful of projects. A role I'll appreciate him and his experience far more in, personally.
I kinda doubt he'll be sporting that "gaping maw" too much there though LOL
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/16/2009 10:46:16 AM | | Well a 4-1 win over the flames in their building with O'Sullivan getting 2 goals. Just the way I like to start a season (even the pre-season), making flames fans hang their heads in shame :) | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/16/2009 12:46:27 PM | Sounds like it should be quite the interesting game tonight. We're supposed to get a peek at what all the hoopla was about concerning Tavares for the Isles, as well as the new "shining star" for the Oilers, Eberle. Still no Bulin wall though. I read someplace that it might offer the "revenge of Roli" too but that looks like just rumor. Time for a "big Mac attack" too it sounds like and he has no sore cheek anymore. (rough night for some poor dingbat I'm guessing)
GO OIL!!! | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/16/2009 1:22:45 PM | Tix are half price. Wish I was in town. As for last night's win, a look at the rosters before the game told me that the Oil would win (Calgary had, I think, 6 players with NHL experience... Boyd, Moss and Nystrom were their 'letters'). But any win over Calgary is worth at least a mention. Better than a loss, no matter when it happens!!!! And it was available to watch, on the 'puter anyway. | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/16/2009 2:39:55 PM | I will not miss MacT behind the bench at all!! He was always one for good sound bites though. This from the OilersNation blogsite...
MacT starts early TSN sent out a release today announcing that Craig MacTavish will be in studio for 25 games, debuting September 21st when Pittsburgh faces Montreal.
MacT was never one to be love with the media, and now that he is “one”, he had some fun with it.
“I’m happy to finally be among the experts where the issues are many and the solutions obvious. I appreciate TSN providing a safe haven for unemployed coaches as we rehabilitate ourselves towards future employability.” Read more: http://www.oilersnation.com/2009/09/gdb-minus-8/#ixzz0RJAOj1PK I'm sure there will be some choice quotes from him this season.
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/16/2009 4:48:46 PM | | Love that last bit about a safe haven for unemployed coaches. I was saying at the water cooler yesterday that taking th job at TSN almost assures him of another NHL coaching job within a year ha ha | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/16/2009 7:01:57 PM | | Man, it's nice to watch hockey again - especially Oiler hockey. Watching it on NHL.com. Wonder how long they'll show free games for. Anyway, nice to see you guys are still here and let's hope this year is different. | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/16/2009 8:10:46 PM | | Hey tick... edmontonoilers, com will be streaming all the preseason games | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/16/2009 10:43:38 PM | Yeah, I watched the first game on there. They have a link right off of their front page. I also believe one of the pre-season games will be televisied but I can't remember which one off the top of my head.
The boys are 2-0 so far. I was reading on TSN where Souray was talking about the new coaches. He said something along the lines of there are now adjustments being made right on the bench, they are no longer being allowed shortcuts and how great of communicators the new coaches are, making it easy for the players to understand what is wanted of them.
GO OIL GO!! | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/17/2009 7:32:42 AM | | From Quinn's postgame chat, he's trying to get the players to actually play as a team! What a concept. I think once the final cuts are made, he's really going to put them to work learning how to operate as a unit. | |
| Oilers - Looking Forward Posted: 9/17/2009 9:54:10 AM | "Play as a team"... "Operate as a unit"... Oh joy. Soundbites right out of “Coaching 101: How to use cliches when talking to media" Before you know it, he'll have the guys giving 110%. I can hardly wait until March, when their backs are against the wall and they have to start playing one game at a time
He Pat... there's a new book out. You have to start using terms like "stud" and "sick" to keep up with the times
On a serious note, Tychkowski's article yesterday was refreshing... the players talking about the freedom they are being allowed offensively. That's going to be a nice change. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Columnists/Tychkowski/2009/09/16/10933476-sun.html
| Oilers - Looking good so far Posted: 9/18/2009 8:28:32 PM | Comrie's sure tryin' hard to earn some fans back. 3 assists and a rumble in this game. (fans were even chanting his name ) Looking like an awesome deal thus far too for just over a mil .
Didn't get too good of a test for The Wall either really, (only 18 shots) but a shutout for his first game, hence a bit of ego strokin', is likely a good thing for him right now too.
| Oilers - Looking good so far Posted: 9/19/2009 8:54:20 AM | | Well from the way they've been playing the last couple seasons, they do need to get back to basiscs. From the look of the preseason, coaching 101 is a good thing! | |
| Oilers - Looking good so far Posted: 9/19/2009 12:02:35 PM | It will be interesting to see what Tambellini does in the next two weeks: A monster trade or just basically give someone away? He has to do something before opening day to get under the cap.
I still can't believe this lineup is over the cap. Thanks KL.
| Oilers - Looking good so far Posted: 9/19/2009 2:14:21 PM | I'm thinking theres a significant trade in the near future....no disrespect to Comrie but the last thing we needed was another small body.. I still say he's here because Tambellini has plans of trading a couple of our "Smurfs" with potential for a forward better suited to our needs...
In my mind it's goodbye Robert Nielson and maybe a Steve Staios + ?????
| Oilers - Looking good so far Posted: 9/20/2009 4:40:18 PM | Right now the Oilers have 19 forwards being paid "cap" money (NHL contracts). Yhat's more than more any team other than Calgary (20). I don't see anything big coming back to them, unles they give up three or more players.
The Islanders may be a team to trade with, if they have anything that interests Tambellini... they still have about $20M to spend.
The Rangers need players, and cheap players at that. They are in serious trouble in NY. Sather only has 10 forwards and 4 defencemen under contract (I'm talking players with NHL experience here) and less than $6M to spend
