Great Job on the Shoot Down. Shows we are still number one in National Defense. Right on Target

Oh...really. So you are told, with computer enhanced animation to back it up!

number one in National Defense

You mean offence! So who are you goin g to invade NOW! How about somewhere where they can't possibly fight back unlike Iraq or Afghanistan? Perhaps you could invade Singapore, but nah,,,,,,,they would fight back after a while. How about somewhere in Africa where they still rely and use spears and rocks. Yeah.......that would be easy yeah.....kill em...kill em all! If that dosen't work......nuke em.... yeah...nuke em all.

For we (theUSA), have become death and that is what we spread!!!!!throughout the world.

Bring it on God, we'll nuke you as well, so bring on your Armageddon, we'll still beat you cause we are the USA!!!!!The almighty!!!!!!!

Are you sure you don't mean "AVIS in National Defence"?

Seems to me that the Chinese already have an active, dedicated anti-satellite defense while this was a "one-off" project that required special modifications and is not repeatable without going through all the same modifications again.

I think this might have been a signal to the Chinese the U.S. also has anti-satellite capability which it can use if it wants to. The U.S. developed these types of missiles in the 1980's, and the U.S. has also been experimenting for a while on high energy lasers which use adaptive optics which could also be used to 'blind' satellites in space.

Even so, the ability to shoot down a satellite does not constitute an infallible defence against ICBMs and SLBMs. The U.S. could still easily be destroyed in an all out nuclear exchange with Russia, and severely damaged in an exchange with China. All it would take would be four ICBMs or SLBMs to wipe out New York, Washington, and Los Angeles, which is well within the capacity of Russia and China.

That is what I am saying about the Genius of our engineers in the US. We can modify a weapon system to do whatever we like.
Then convert it back to it designed purpose. I mean ICBM defense is a little more important than trying to hit a satellite. Once the ICBMs are launched they only have to get close.
However, if we need to blow up a satellite we can take care of that also.

Ask Tony what he says about the USA

well,as a member of the US military, i am happy to tell you that the sat was shot down. all this crap i hear about us failing to shoot things down is exactly that -crap. in the first gulf war, patriot missiles were shooting down "scud" battlefield tactical ballistic missiles with relative ease. hitting a moving sat from a moving ship is gonna be hard, considering the velocity differences between the two platforms. we have the technology, and the hardware, and it works. show a little bit of national pride, it was a great accomplishment. oh by the way, it would be hazardous to shoot down a nuclear powered sat. the idea that the government would want radioactive stuff falling down on the earth is just plain silly.

Actually, that's not quite correct.
There WERE some hits on Scuds during the First Gulf War...but there were more misses than hits.
And most hits simply broke up the incoming Scud...they didn't destroy it.
Also, significant damage was done by the Patriots that missed and later crashed after they spent their fuel.

Sooo...while it may be a "boon" to the US to have ability to shoot down satellites from ships....when and where would we use this "boon?"
Won't this just encourage other countries to create new, or accelerate existing, anti-sat programs?
And since the US has the largest number of satellites in space...aren't we the most vulnerable to anti-sat technology?

Yes. Great video! Gotta love those CG graphics!

Seriously, though, I wouldn't get too excited about this little turkey shoot. If and when an attack comes against a major U.S. city, the payload will more likely be delivered by a Cessna than a missile.
