All star game = good money maker that is for sure. Tickets where sky hi and who really cares who wins? Seems the AL won 12 in a row! And that determines who has home field advantage in the world series. I could care less. The home run derby was better. And the rules should be changed in the winner. Add them all up period.

The AL is 17-3-1 (remember that friggin' retarded tie?!) in the last 21 All-Star games.But, I'm not sure who won the most World Series in that time? I can try, but I need (without googling it!) 1986-2007;
Let's play 21;
Yankees~4
Marlins~2
BoTox~2
Minn.~2
Tor.~2
Mets, Atl., Az., Cinn., ChiSox, Det., L.A.A.A, L.A, Phil.,...???

AL-13
NL-7
One tie (just kiddin'!)
AL-13 NL-8 If I'm not mistaken(?)

Not bad if I may say so. I said Det. instead of Oak. and I thought of St.Louis afterwards,ALL WITHOUT the aid of a friggin' computer. That's where you get all your sporting news. I have everything stored in my noggin'. You'd be TOTALLY LOST without your faithful dependancy!!!
If you had an iota of decency, you would've said,...Not bad Oscar! But, you fail to recognize the company of greatness before thine eyes.
Btw, thanks for looking it up and providing us with the teams.
You're right about the Expos (go figure) Matt Williams was on a homerun rampage. He might've given the homerun record a run for it's money,...WITHOUT Roids'!!!

You went from referring me to not having any decency to thanking me....And as you can see I quoted you on that, and nothing more. I don't have selective hearing, I know what I read.

Spreadsheets that I have made in excel or am I moving too fast for you....I'll teach you how to use like they taught Hellen Keller how to talk.

Again you started it....You need to apologize to me. Calling you a jerk off maybe went a little too far, but FOR YOU indicating me for not having any decency for just helping you out was a little out of the norm.

Another thing and take it as constructive criticism....Learn your punctuations marks, so we both can understand each other.

Gee, I must be a nut. I was anything but bored during the whole All-Star day, red carpet parade, old guys/ new guys, I was bawling my eyes out.

The Good

Seeing all the old geezers
JD Drew
Evan Longoria’s RBI to tie the game (ok, that could be just me)

The Bad

Sheryl Crows rendition of the National Anthem
NY Daily News taking Papelbon’s remarks on Rivera taken out of context.

The Uggla
(I think that says it all)

While A-Rod was busy with his All-Star day C-Rod was filing court papers requesting any reports that may have been obtain by Alex from a private investigator including wire-taps and electronic surveillance. Supposedly Madonna was a no show at Alex’s after game party at Jay-Z’s club.

wiz, I dig Stat's;
I forgot when they changed the div. allignment, but from the winners and losers (last 2 1 W.S.) this is what I came up with:
NL East was in 10 out of 21, going 4-6. The most NL appearances and the most NL wins. AL East was in 11/21, going 8-3.The most appearances in baseball and obviously the most wins. NL/AL East won 12/21 and are the Beast's From The East.
Notables: Yankees 4-2, Atl 1-4, FLORIDA 2-0, Cleve 0-2...That's all folks. You can thank the wiz for his "spreadsheets".

bb, as soon as I heard Sheryl Crows name, I switched the channel before I even heard the first note. How can you defend Poopelbon? He was the only BooSox to say that they were going to exact revenge on the Rays by inflicting some serious bodily harm. A-Rod left IMMEDIATELY after he was taken out of the game. If you make $250 million does that mean you're exempt from partaking in the rest of the All-Star game? Which, btw, had some wicked defensive plays. I bet Lady Madonna stood him up.

How can I defend Papelbon? Easy. He didn’t disrespect Rivera in his statements period, in fact it was quite the opposite. Also, it is one thing to boo a player during a game against your home team. It is even understandable to boo a division rival player in an All-Star game at your home stadium. It is all together a different thing to boo and heckle an All-Star in a parade with his wife at his side fueled even more by an incorrect “tabloid“ style news rag. This night wasn’t/isn’t about the individual team rivalries it was about fun and showcasing past, present and future ball players. That is all it has ever been regardless of them trying to "make it count".

As for Papelbon's comments about the Rays. I can understand anger hours and days after an intense brawl coupled with much more complimentary statements after that anger and the incident has passed to know that there are times when things are said in the "heat of the moment”. My guys have said some pretty kindergarten style comments after confrontations as well. I am sure there will be quite a few future ones too, complete with asinine behavior, chest pounding along with jabs and barbs in the press. Why should they be any different than the thousands of athletes and multitudes of sports teams that have come before them?

Getting back to Papelbon, I don’t care what uniform the man wears, it is sad that his experience was tarnished and it didn't have anything to do with his performance. I also feel bad for Uggla, which was due to his lack of performance. His experience was disappointing and maybe even a little embarrassing, the boy obviously isn’t a crappy player. Then again maybe he will be in 10 more and be able to laugh about how much of a boob he was in first appearance.

If you make $250 million does that mean you're exempt from partaking in the rest of the All-Star game?

Guess it will look like I am defending A-Rod, but I have rarely seen an All-Star game where the starting players stayed much longer than right after being relieved, regardless if they had a big party planned. I was actually surprised at how many were still hanging around for a few innings longer. I would say many of the guys not being All-Stars several years in a row had more to do with how many were still there but Jeter stayed right to the end. Perhaps he wasn’t invited to Alex’s party and figured he’d stay and hug the guys if they won or console them if they lost. If memory serves I think he has always stayed until the end.

Personally, I think Madonna probably had better things to do.

I enjoyed the pregame show Tuesday. Great seeing all the hall of famers there. Shame to see Mc Covey in a wheelchair. If Yaz was there, New York fans would havw booed. New York did a great job with the pregame. Can't believe fans called Papelbon over rated. He is one of the top closers in the game. Can anyone quess who some of the players who wil get traded before the trade deadline. Any big names. Till next time.

yeswho, why boo Yaz, cause he's a Sox? Come on, give the Yankee fans some credit. They would've cheered for him, only for the fact that they couldn't spell his name. Seriously, that's 30 years ago when they played each other in that "f'n" Bucky Dent game and 75' with Fisk (I know W.S.).Those were great BoSox teams with Rice and Lynn. None of them posed any threat.

bb, I don't care who you are or what you make and what the game/sport is, you need to stay til' the end. Not only to show support and root your team on, but out of respect, honor and for the integrity of the game. Plus he missed a hell've a game just to run to some bogus party. Do you think he was the only one who had plans after the game? He should be suspended or fined for making such a hasty exit!

lucky, besides the fact that in EVERY All-Star game the Mgrs try to get EVERYONE in the game (maybe too much) , I'm not sure the Phillies would've been too happy to see Utley play 5 hours and risk a chance at an injury. Besides, this is a platform for fans to see their fave players play.Especially after coming in 2nd place in the fan balloting for 2nd base.No one in their right mind anticipates anyone to have such a dismal game on such a grand stage. Hindsight is 20/20.

I was thinking the same thing. If you can't play like an all star, you shouldn't be on the team. I don't care what you do during the rest of the season.

Here's the losers I got from my spreadsheet....

2005 Houston Astros

*groan*

Can anybody tell me why Clint Hurdle only left Brandon Webb in for one inning? The guy mowed them down with no effort at all. And then they went and put Brad Lidge in the very next inning. Granted, I know the guy has had a stellar season this year in Philly, but his name is still tarnished here in Houston. And he went right back to his old Astros ways the other night when they put him in. Totally unreliable.

Shame to see Mc Covey in a wheelchair.

I kept my composure until they announced Bob Feller and I boo- hooed like it was a friggin’ chick flick. (no crying in baseball, NO CRYING!)

Can anyone quess who some of the players who wil get traded before the trade deadline.

Not real good at guessing, but I just saw that the Phillies got Blanton from the A’s for some minor leaguers. I have heard that the Marlins want Pudge back but the Tigers aren’t willing to part with him just yet. The Yankees are supposedly interested in Sexson. There are rumors of an impending fire sale by the Padres in the hopes of getting some good prospects.

I am hoping that the Rays are looking at a right handed bat. Someone that can help now, cute with a nice butt is optional.

I don't care who you are or what you make and what the game/sport is, you need to stay til' the end.

I also think it would be a nice thing to do, but I am just saying, don’t single out Alex as the majority of the starters and “big” names don’t hang around. I did read though that no team mates showed for his party yet Jeter hosted one after the marathon and everybody who is anybody was there. So, maybe others should take a little page out the “some Playboy athletes have a touch of class” handbook.

besides the fact that in EVERY All-Star game the Mgrs try to get EVERYONE in the game (maybe too much)
Then sometimes you might actually NEED EVERYONE in the game. I suspect it will be more like this in the future with so many of the All-Stars being so closely competitive, close games and extra innings and basically just wearing each other down and actually NEEDING all of the players.

No one in their right mind anticipates anyone to have such a dismal game on such a grand stage.

If you can't play like an all star, you shouldn't be on the team. I don't care what you do during the rest of the season.

I agree that Uggla had a horrible performance both defensively and offensively, but I am with Oscar on this one. There is no way to know anyone would have a complete meltdown and just about every player has them at some time. I would withhold vehemently chastising a player until he has a meltdown in the deciding game of the pennant race or WS, not so much an All-Star exhibition game.

Can anybody tell me why Clint Hurdle only left Brandon Webb in for one inning?

For the same reason Francona would have been hesitant to put Kaz back out if Young hadn’t ended the game. In fact he was trying to avoid using him at all. It’s one thing to play Russian Roulette with your own Ace but if you send someone else’s star pitcher back broken or tired, people aren’t going to be happy. Webb and Kaz had both pitched on Sunday.

I think you're in love with Pay-Rod, bb. Is it his money? (lol) Otherwise, why would you be defending him like he was on death row? I'll make one last comment about him and we (I) could move on. (I gotta see this other A-Rod thread )
A-Rod is a NY Yankee. The All-Star game was played in Yankee Stadium. And, btw, this is also the last year in existence of "The House That Ruth Built". It's not the house that A-Rod built, although he could buy it. It's now Jeter's house. But, is A-Rod above everyone that he can't be a good ambassador for the game? This was a world wide event. Every single living HOF was there. By him leaving early, also was an insult to these players alone.
That's okay, I'm through with him, he doesn't have a ring with the Yankees, Jeter has four. I'd rather have Jeter be the poster boy for the Yankees anyway. Besides, who would be in the picture with A-Rod, his wife or Madonna?

This is the same Mets team that trailed the Phillies by 7 1/2 games on June 13th
This is the same team that struggled for nearly three months.
The winning streak is the eighth in club history of 10 games or more and the first since July 1991. Mets teams of four different seasons have won 11 games, the club record.

And, they're doing this with Johann "you better change your Evil Ways" Santana as their worse pitcher!!!

11 in a row,...11 to 3,...

The Mets usually go window shopping at this time. But, why fix it, if it ain't broke?

Not in love with Alex, don’t personally know the man and I am not one of those females that is attracted to the size of a man’s wallet. I understand what you are saying, but don’t kid yourself, none of the old timers stayed the whole 15 innings. Neither did all the fans or most of the players that were no longer in the game. That is why I can “defend” him on this particular issue. If you want to blast “all” players that bail out early, fine, but it isn’t fair to single out one no matter how much he makes or where the game was held.

If you want to tar and feather A-Rod over this whole divorce/infidelity/Madonna “is my soul mate” crap, I will gladly stand beside you holding the buckets to throw at him.

I am also one of the few that doesn’t agree with the whole Pay-Rod issue either. If anyone deserves to be the highest paid player it is Alex Rodriguez even if he can’t keep his Willie inside his big boy britches. He is and has been one of the most consistently great players of the game today, I challenge anyone to attempt to prove otherwise. The argument of him not being worth it based on his post season performance or lack of it would be more credible.

I can separate the different issues. I can still think he is a great baseball player even if I no longer think much of him as a man and within the confines of baseball I wouldn‘t hold him to a different standard than any other veteran or high paid player. I don’t expect him or any of them to be saints but for cripes sakes you should be able to carry yourself with a little dignity if not for yourself , at least for your family, children and others around you. You want to berate him for something, call him out on how all this mess has fueled the “piranharazzi” to go after his family and teammates. I am sure that not only are they camped out at his place and anywhere that Cynthia goes but hounding other family members and players as well. I am sure they are constantly in all of their faces with questions about this circus. For that he should be hung up by his gonads, not for doing something or not doing something that is not required, expected or even widely common for other players at this event.

Ok, I have had my rant, back to baseball.

The Yanks did land Sexson.
Hairston to the DL (again)

On a personal note, Toby Hall came into my restaurant yesterday, hadn’t seen him since the off season. He was grabbing some take out for the family before heading back to join the Chisox. One of the ladies I work with commented “I think I can see why you like baseball so much”.

What if I told you that the Cards will win the NL Central Div.?
What if I told you that the Brew Crew will be the NL wild card team?
What if I told you that the Yankees will win the AL East Div.?
Would you think?

Anything could happen to the game of baseball, but I sure don't want to see the Yankees win the division. Its the same old story and it happens ever year with Red Sox and Yankees. Yankees always fall in a slump in the beginning of the season, but by after the All-Star it usually goes down to the last game.

So, to answer your question I say NO WAY JOSE, Red Sox will take it!!!!!

I would repeat the above again and add not if the Sawx and Devil Dorks have anything to say about it.
