Griffey is now 1 HR away from the magical 600 homer club.

It is great that Griffy is near 600, shame about all the games he missed. If he didnt play hard like diving for balls running hard to take the extra base he would have broke Aarons record. He might get 600 in Philly next couple days. Wish I could be there.

I've always liked Griffey. I had really hoped he'd be the one to break Aaron's record eventually.

The Good:

Da Cubs sweep Rox.(after sweeping the Dodgers)
Reds sweep Braves.
Brewers sweep Astros.
Griffey one away from 600.
Manny hits 500.
Hamilton with 63 RBI’s (though 4 came recently on the slam against my Rays, but good for him)
Jay Bruce

The Bad:

Rox , Braves, Astros got swept.
Dice K, Haffner, Fogg and Percival on DL
Kansas City Royals

The Ugly:

Maple Bats
Instant Replay

Coming up:
Joba the starter
2008 draft
Hoping the Sawx are tuckered out after they finish with the O’s tonight when the Rays go into Boston. 35 hits so far against the O’s, ouch!
Griffey’s 600th (hopefully)

Bad news if you're a Cardinals fan:

Pujols leaves game with tightness in calf

WASHINGTON (AP)—St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols left Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Nationals with tightness in his left calf.

Pujols was removed for a pinch runner immediately after being hit in the left shoulder by a pitch from Nationals reliever Jesus Colome in the top of the fourth inning. The game had recently resumed after a 1-hour, 51-minute rain delay.

The Cardinals were leading 4-0 when Pujols left the game. They scored a run later in the inning and led 5-0 when the game was halted by rain again in the top of the fifth.

Utley just had 6 game home run streak snapped Tuesday.Chipper Jones could be MVP if Braves win division, but they wont.Hope Utley wins it.It would be the first time since the 40s that 3 teammates won the MVP fron the same team . Howard Rollins then Utley. It would be nice if owners paid some money to get a number 2 starter behind Hammels.

Good thing he didn't get hit in the back-Ankle injuries are hard to overcome.

Seriously (or less comically), the White Sox busted out for 4 games worth of runs in last night's 9-5 win over KC. So the 2 for 30 stretch with RISP is a thing of the past. Unfortunately, I think it's a thing of the future as well.

Unfortunately as well, the Cubs won again.
I don't really care how the Cubs do but most of the cub's fans I know can't enjoy their team's success without a White Sox putdown.

I must be happy because I just don't get the blues.

Good news is on the horizon for the Tigers.
Zumaya started his minor league rehab last night throwing 2 scoreless innings and hitting triple digits on the gun.
He should be back up with the Tigers within 3 weeks.
Rodney also started his rehab last night.

some people think team chemistry shouldn't be applied to baseball.

Look at the records for the Tigers, Devil Rays and Marlins.

Absolutely Karrosive but winning breeds chemistry and losing breeds dissention.
The Tigers have mixed in new players to the mix and they have lost key componants to injury.
This season is lost but I still feel good about this group going into 2009.
Hopefully they can find that chemistry and make a run at some point this year or at the very least to set up next year.

The Sox are playing in a weak division...we'll continue our winning ways against them in a few weeks at Wrigley.

As a Yankee dude, this whole late inning stuff is going to take some getting used to. We were starting to get comfy with the idea that IF we could get a lead after six, we'd be in good shape..now, not so much.

I'll defer to the braintrust on this one, but to me, I don't like the move of Joba to starter

The Good:

Draft picks/ Negro Leaguers honored at Draft
Giambino ‘s pinch hit walk off homer (depending on how you look at it)
Chipper belts 400th.

The Bad:

Kemp and Torrealba suspended.
Pena, Ortiz, Zimmerman, Punto to the DL
Smoltz lost for season. (could be for good??)
Joba’s first outing as a starter.

The Ugly:

Red Sox/ Rays
I had a feeling the Rays weren’t going to do well on this trip to Fenway. A brawl, ejections and of course there will be suspensions on the way as well as a sweep. The Rays deserved to lose that series. I don’t know what bothered me more, Shields and Coco throwing punches likes girls (I can say that , I am one) or being worried at what kind of mess Coco was going to look like once he pulled from the scrum. It seemed to take forever to get him out from underneath the pile, he didn’t look like he was badly injured. The Rays will be very lucky if they don’t get quite a few extra suspensions other than the guys ejected. I guess Manny still wanted to fight he went after Youkilis in the dugout, anybody hear what that was about??

Kerry Wood now leads the NL in saves A lot of folks were doubting his ability to close once Lou Piniella made the official announcement during spring training. He's not walking a lot of batters & when he stays away from plunking hitters (which happened again last night vs. LA), he's been pretty effective out there. He's starting to throw a really good slider & can still throw mid 90-mph heat.

Had to go find out what post you were talking about since it wasn't in this thread. Just so you know blocking the plate from a steal with leg down is a very common and proper defense of the bag, . Just as coming in hard to 2nd when trying to break up a double play (not so much a steal) or charging the catcher on a close play at home. Anyone that tries to turn it onto the baseman as a 'foul" play is quite frankly

A) full of crap
B)throwing blame off from his own stupidity of going into the base head and hands first
C) doesn't know how the game is played or played that way for his team not the other side.

I did see Coco and Madden exchange words during the previous game when Madden said something to him about the cleats up on the play with Aki when he was called out.

normally I dont condone anything coco does but I dont think shields had any right going after him the way he did. Im sorry to me its like be a man. This incident was as bad as Kyle Farnsworth being a **** throwing at manny's head. The whole game was a disaster lol. But Tampa and the sox acted inappropriately last night to me. Lol but it was funny as shit if you go to yahoo and then see the article and see the pics lol.

I mentioned above I thought they threw punches like a couple of "girls", actually I have seen women land better punches. If you are going to commit to being a couple of jack asses at least do it right, you know? It appears Gomes and Crawford know how, even if it may cost them a few games each. I agree it was ugly and in a few instances funny, all the way around.
