Tonight the Phillies had the pitching advantage with Cliff Lee going the distance....I think the advantage goes the Yankees way with Burnett over Pedro tomorrow and should win game 2.

That could very well be true. We'll find out shortly.
I just like seeing Martinez throw. Plus I wouldn't under estimate him in a big game in his possible last outing (isn't he getting close to retirement?) It would be like under estimating Nolan Ryan in his twilight years.

Pedro was on his way to giving the Dodgers a beat down in his last appearance through 7 until the relievers blew it for him. Unfortunately I didn't watch that one very attentively. Today I'll be glued to the screen. :superglue:

I don't think he's retiring....actually I feel this could be an audition to come back with another team as a back end of the rotation sort of guy...he'll never be an ace again, but I believe he's not done quite yet.

It was good to see the Phillies take game 1 away from the Yankees in their own home. No matter, it's still not over yet. I hoping a good sweep from the Phillies and win back to back....Let's go PHILLIES!!!! No more c()ck rings for the New York Yankees....26 is enough.

Pedro may be a good pitcher but he is not in the same league as Nolan Ryan.

How do you figure ?

Pedro's ERA is 30 points lower and his winning percentage is 150 points higher that Nolan.

More awesome pitching, this time AJ Burnett.

Still some lousy calls but at least so far they haven’t had a major affect on the outcomes.

That was a MUST WIN GAME for us!!!!!!!........and we did it!......whew!

Now we got some elbow room.......the offense has to pick it up a bit!!!...and if pettite could pitch a good 6-7 innings, our chances will be fairly good on Sat!

AJ was a bad-azz tonite!.....

Big key hit by Godzilla to get us ahead!.............and God-bless Mo!

I thought that out call at first in the 8th that should have been safe could have completely changed the outcome.

^^^^^ Perhaps if the play at first wasn't so veeeeery close in actual time. I wouldn’t rule that specifically a bad call, even in the replay the ball is at the tip of Teixeira’s glove when Ut's foot is on the bag….purely a split second judgment call. Besides the real bad call was from the dugout not to have the runners going. I personally think the worst calls have been the balls clearly off the plate putting batters on both teams down by 2 strikes.

The “caught” ball by Howard was a big break but only if it were any other pitcher going to the hill but Mo. Sure, you might catch him off guard once in a blue moon (even the Devil Rays have done it) but in the immortal words of sumone the chances of that happening are “squat-diddly”.

If Ryan had of pitched on a team that won as many games as the Red Sox did he would have ended up with over 400 wins and a few seasons with over 30 wins. As it turned out he did have 7 no hitters. Just bad luck for him that he didn't have the backup that Pedro had.

Ryan's longevity is a topic of discussion all on it's own. He had perfect mechanics that enabled him to fire heat till the end. Martinez looks like he's going to fall over every time he throws the ball. He pitched a great game. If you can't score more that 1 run in game 2 against the Yankees at home then you're probably going to loose no matter who's pitching anyway.

Speaking of Ryan.....

Phillies got it going on they just need Ryan Howard's bat.
4 SO's - ouch. Maybe he gets it going at home.
I hope the game doesn't interfere with our halloween festivities. Need to be there less than 5 hours after game time (1:30 pm here). If there IS going to be one blowout I hope it's tomorrow night. My town on halloween is called the Marti Gras of the Pacific. 20,000 people dowtown.

I wouldn't bet the farm on either team right now. This may be the best WS in years, the way games 1 & 2 have gone.

Yee-Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

How bout them Yanks!!!!!...................coming back from a 3-0 deficit!....we needed to win 1 in Philly and luckily it was the first of 3!

Great hit from Andy Pettit...in the clutch!.....he redeemed himself after giving up a few runs!

Good call by the Umps (finally) on A-Rods homer off the camara!

Big game for the Swish-man!.......kudos to Johnnay-D, for another clutch hit!....and of course Godzilla, adding an insurance homer!

last but not least, god-bless the Mo-man!

Yeah.
Except for the homerun camera call. I thought the ball might have stayed in the yard by the trajectory. And a bad call on the ball 4 the batter before to give em 2. Looks like neither mattered though and chalk it up to a loss for the Phils. We'll be goin' back to NY on Wednesday now and that means anything can happen. Great series !

Exciting games, really thought the Phils would hold them tonight after the homer by Feliz, but not meant to be. Awesome match up tomorrow!

Yankees are 27 outs from getting their 27th championship, kind of cool.

Hooray. Another store bought championship for the Yankees. This is unexpected. They only bought up the entire free agent market last off season.

So much for the Phillies becoming a dynasty. Weak.
