Now I am psyched to go but I have no time to organize this and you wouldn't want me to cuz I'm always the one who is late! Someone - pick a date, pick a place and make sure the one is available on the other. Where is the OP when you need him?
(Green Point does have group campsites by the way) And no way - do I finally get to see a certain pilot again after all these months? Do I recall a cowboy hat in error somewhere in our past? | |

I camped at Taylor Flats (?) (between Pt Alberni & the West Coast once with some friends. It was free, and, nobody minded a little noise from the two generator-powered sound systems we brought. That was 10 years ago, so things could have changed.
I know of a spot near the San Juan River near Port Renfrew that's also free, although road access changes from year to year according to what the river's done over the winter. I might be camping there around June 21st.
I'd also be interested in a modest overnight or multiday backpacking trip.

Posted: 2/25/2008 10:40:29 PM | On Vancouver Island we go camping three or four times a year . Lake Cowichan has some nice sites and Salt Spring Island is a favourite. Last year we done the caves at Horn Lake but we camped near Qualicum Beach that time. Past Sooke, China Beach was a hoot and loved the little beach there...we will have to do the trails in that area soon. We camped near Parkville one year so we could attend the sand castle activities. This summer we are thinking of camping up in Comox so we can enjoy the Filberg Festival...and one of these summers we will have to do the Folk Festival near Duncan. Long Beach is also in the future.
In March of this year we will be on Gabriola Island for a weekend. We have rented a cabin this time around.
If I may says something, you should think of somewhere central so anyone from the island can easily attend. Within a short drive from Nanaimo will do well and a few from the main land may find it close enough to show face.

I just realized I have a wedding to attend on May 17th..am...and my daughter's birthday is the 18th...so if we are talking that long weekend...well...can't get to wherever until evening of the 17th....and I will be hauling 3 kids along probably and a big tent.
I am set up for camping up at OK Falls on the Aug long weekend for my birthday...so... who is up for the July long weekend? | |

Pye Lake
Roberts Lake
stella and pye are free and there is good fishing at all three lakes as well as network of trails and logging roads to explore.
they are all located between Campbell river and Sayward(small town to visit for supplies)
as a bonous the camp sites are right on the beach and are well maintained . | |

Posted: 7/6/2008 8:21:03 PM | We're doing a family camping event for the September long weekend in case anyone is interested - Horne Lake - caves, boat launch, canoe/kayak/wakeboard rentals, hiking trail, rappelling, etc. on Vancouver Island. It is a aways away but you have to book quickly for a long weekend.
That leaves a lot of weekends for anything else that people may want to get going. | |
