Well, like most in Ontario, we have deer, fischers, coyotes, coy-dogs, foxes, raccoons, skunks, porcupines, squirrels and of course chipmunks for the kids to feed. We also have 2 beautiful turkey vultures that have taken up residence in the top of the barn! They are SO big!

We also have hawks, grey owls, and the occasional falcon. Garter snakes, redbellies and milk snakes and a bit further north you can find Massassauga Rattlers. Of course there are cranes and blue herons as well and a huge population of wild turkeys! We had one two years ago that was so used to humans she'd climb up on your lap for a nap if you let her! "Mrs.Beasley" (as we lovingly named her) would follow the kids everywhere!

My favourites are the bears.... so beautiful.

LOL......
Beautiful and vultures are not usually used in the same sentence.

They are a really cool birds, I just never thought of them the same way as loons or wood ducks....lol

^^^^ So true smilewouldyou.....

I never thought they were very beautiful either until I got to watch them up close. When they take off into flight from where there are a couple of planks missing in the barn, they are only about 12 - 15 feet above me. What a sight to behold! Oh, to have the freedom of flight.....

I live in a high population density city on the west coast of Florida.

In my backyard I get a few woodland birds including blue jays, cardinals, mocking birds and several types of woodpeckers including the piliated woodpecker. And of course I have lots of grey squirrels and the occasional possum passing through. I also have a black garden snake that lives in my yard somewhere.

Flying over my house I've seen wood storks, bald eagle, hawks, pelicans, egrets, cranes, geese and ducks.

I was at a local county park on the water last weekend, saw a manatee and a few dolphins. Its not unusual to see shark and manata rays in the water either.

Wildlife heaven for me.

So many men out there to choose from, but we are all either vultures or loons!

Off topic, sorry I couldn't resist perpetuating the male stereotype.

We have all kinds of birds-- sparrows, finches, blue jays, robins, and I've even seen a big swooping crane on a walk by a stashed away pond.

We have big ass buck and deer, ground hogs, black squirrels, gray squirrels, beavers, swans, mallard ducks, fox, racoons, possum, rabbits......

can't think of anything else.

What is a tit? LOL

We have a lot of wild turkey that were re introduced into the area about 20 years ago. The population has really taken off. I put up a picture of my back yard so you see what I do out the back door every day. We have shared our space here with black bear, deer, an elk who made his way here after being released north of the area. He was part of a re population program like the turkeys were. I know there are moose on the loose but I personally only saw one once, while driving on the 401 between Cobourg and Port Hope. We also have had the occasional cougar alerts too. We have a few wolves, 'yotes, fox and of course we have the small game animals here too, beaver, raccoon, rabbits, fishers and several kinds of prey birds. I am always amazed how brilliant the blue jays are in this area.

Well around here you might just run into anything as peoplehave lost things like Emus and Buffalo not to mention we have 3 types of bears Grizzly, Blacks and Spirit. Then we have Pelicans and squirels, swans and about 200 species of birds the bird watchers say not to mention beaver , deer, elk, Big horn sheep, Mtn goats and alot more that
I do not feel like typing the list as it would take to long.
Great place to see wildlife around here and you even see some on Two legs but that kind you try to avoid.

Where I live in Vancouver the main wildlife are crows.

However, while I was driving to Alberta over the weekend I saw a badger sitting up by the side of the road. I was pretty impressed - there are a fair number of them around but they're reclusive and I'd never seen one like that in my life. In fact, I was so impressed I had to tell you all about it here. :P

The more common wildlife here include three species of deer, elk, bighorn sheep (saw LOTS of those on the road last weekend, too), a couple different kinds of bears, and too many species of birds to count. The ravens are probably the most interesting birds, although there's nothing like the sight of a big owl too - especially if it's carrying off your pet chihuahua. :)

P.S. Forgot a whole bunch of things that live in Western Canada - cougar, lynx, bobcat, wolves, coyotes, fox, hares, skunks, beavers, umpteen different kinds of squirrels, chipmunks, marmots, weasels, and even a few moose although they're not near as common as you might think.

I live in North Suburbia, California ;) . We have crows, bluejays, house finches, mockingbirds (love their singing), meadowlarks, horned larks, robins, cardinals, starlings and the ubiquitous sparrows and pigeons. If your eyes are tuned into raptors you'll see kestrels, redtails, red shoulders, barn owls, great horned owls, short eared owls, burrowing owls, vultures, prairie falcons, sharpshins, and Cooper's hawks. I'm near a flyway so there are often peregrines (in San Francisco and San Jose there are urban peregrines nesting in buildings, closely monitored by the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group), occasional merlins, and golden eagles.

Mammalwise: raccoons, possums, roof rats. A few miles east we have some large parks where 2 weeks ago a mountain lion was spotted dragging off a goat. I've seen bobcats and foxes, and tons of deer.

There are frogs and salamanders; I couldn't tell you the species. A friend once found a horned toad. I've found gopher snakes and garter snakes.

In the creeks we get catfish, largemouth bass, and bluegills. Trout are a bit rare except in stocked lakes. This year we're having a severe loss of salmon, so bad that the season was cancelled :(

I live in Louisiana and we have a wide variety of wildlife from grey squirrels, possums and armadillos that dig holes in my yard to alligators on the side of the highway. We also have nutrias that were brought here from Australia in the early 1900's by Mr. Walter Mcllheny of the Tobasco company. Ducks and geese as well that migrate from Canada. We do have some Canadian geese that stay here on the reserve year round. Mourning doves are everywhere as well as rabbitts. In the snake family we have the water moccasin that you will want to stay clear of.The deer in this part of the state are plentifull but not very large. Muskrats, raccoons and otters are seen in the marshes. Coyotes and a few wolves have been seen. We do have a few black bears but rarely see them.

In suburban Los Angeles, concrete and stucco do not interfere completely with the chain of life. We have squirrels and possums, and we have hawks and coyotes that dine on them. Flies, crickets, beetles, butterflies, moths and other insects are in abundance, but then so are the spiders (I have dozens of black widows on my property). I awoke one morning to find an orgy going on in my pool. It was a raft of over 40 migrating ducks, splashing, swimming, preening and mating, all rather noisily. Another day I went out to water the lawn and a pair of perfectly white rabbits were grazing there. The next day, a chicken showed up. I caught it and fed it a bit, then let it go. That must have made an impression, as the chicken has been around for a couple of years now. I know, because it turned out to be a rooster, and I hear him every day, and frequently spy him raiding the dog's kibble dish next door.
