Yes, S2, I'm tempted. The trouble is that there are so many wonderful places to see in the world. But as a sailor, the Broads have always been on my radar. It's a ways from my usual English destination (Manchester) which puts me a couple of hours from the Lake District, but you're right, the Broads would be an awesome place to hang out for a while. I guess midsummer - July/August would be the best times for sun but the worst for tourists.

We got your whales, dolphins, turtles, sharks, rays, and different fish both ornamental and good eating. Not to many land creatures. The axis deer and pigs stay in the mountains away from civilization. There is an endangered nene goose, some owls, annoying myna birds and some purty ones like cardinals , magestic 'iwa birds and frigates. Geckos, camilions (sp) no snakes at all.

In my garden we get a lot of native birds. Ibis, Galah, Rosella, Sulpher crested****'s, and of course Maggies. We also have a lot of snakes in our local park, Kangaroo's on the golf course and the occasional fox.

I only live 40 mins from melbourne so we're not out in the bush, right on the edge between suburbia and the country.

I'm fortunate to have a pond and stream in sight of my front window. Mostly waterfowl such as mallard, black duck, canada goose, great blue heron, snowy egret, belted kingfishers, bufflehead, cormorant, and of coarse the usual riff raff of crows, jays, and english sparrows. For mammals its mostly squirrels, (gray and red) but the habitat is right and I keep hoping to see a muskrat or perhaps a mink.

Wow, thanks for sharing... must be nice to bird watch where you are.
I recently encountered a doe in a vacant lot I walk through on my way to work. Two weeks ago, I saw a buck, probably a 4-5 pointer. The days of that small paradise are numbered, though. Sooner or later, someone will build on that lot and my small taste of paradise each morning will be lost...
Although the deer population here in Texas is exploding anyway since there are no natural predators except automobiles.
Birds, there are only cardinals, crows and some curious black bird some call grackles or something... along with the ubiquitous small brown bird. Occasionally a hawk or buzzard.

western New York, on Lake Ontario... seagulls, heron, ducks & geese
fox, coyote (big ones! well over 40#) we had 4 bear come thru last yr which is very rare
too many deer! another bow hunt in the park to cull (there are homes down in there) because too much residential damage & car damage; they are everywhere in the suburbs & there is no predator to keep the #'s down
have seen dead bear on the highway in Ohio & a dead cougar just outside city limits in Williamsport PA- never would have expected a big cat to be so close to people.

Pretty much the same as the other Aussies have posted.
Kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, lizards of all kinds, goannas, red belly black snakes, possums, magpies, cicadas, frogs,****toos and the occasional black****too, more birds then I know their names. My favourites are the tiny frogs that sit on my kitchen window at night to eat the bugs attracted to the light.

Where I live now, just many deer......previous home with acreage, you name it....coyotes, bobcats, deer, too many snakes....some poisonous, left the non poisonous alone.....lizards, possums, raccoons....on wooded land, surrounded by many trees, you would see just about anything.....We use to feed the deer and that was a big mistake....they would then just jump the surrounded fencing and that made it worse....I did love it though, just needed to carry a shovel or a stick for what ever that would catch me by surprise.....

I live in a city (S. Onratio, Canada) but pretty much across the street from a Conservation area, I go biking there when it's warm and hiking pretty much year around; I've seen rabbits, white tail deer, turtles, porcupines, of course chipmunks and squires. I know there are coyotes not too far away fro where I live, I think I've seen one. but it might've been a fox...

I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Northern California.

We have squirrels, bald eagles, seagulls (bizarre, I know), deer, bears, coyotes, wolves, bobcats, mountain lions, magpies, hummingbirds (and other various birds).

I think *hands down* the coolest thing is the bald eagles. I was driving into Reno last month and on a tree on the side of the road I saw 2 side-by-side. It was really breathtaking.

I live on 650 acres in an old farm house. I've had two bats that were lost and flew around the house, in different years. I've seen more deer than I can count, a few coyotes, Canadian geese occasionally. Let's not even talk about all the field mice that get in to the tinest cracks. Fortunately I have a good mouser named Dusty, and find the dead gifts in the strangest places.
Racoons, skunks, a family of red foxes one summer that we loved watching, and a chipmunk gets in the house occasionally but Dusty takes care of it.
I too have a creek that runs 1/3 of the way between the property and have seen a couple unusual long legged birds, but wasn't close enough to see what they were.
There are others and I'm sure as soon as I post this I'll think of a few other critters.

Really interesting thread! Tucson, Arizona here. I'm not a bird watcher, but we have a plant called Birds of Paradise that looks stunning when it blooms. We also have the Jumping Cholla, which is a cactus that does quiver when you get near it. If you fall into one or brush past it... Ouch! You're going to need tweezers, possibly even pliers to get the needles out of your skin. Seriously painful.

We have coyotes that run around fairly freely. Since it's the desert, we don't have too many bridges because the "rivers" only flow for a month or so from late July to early September. The rest of the year they're dried up and we call them washes. Perfect modes of transportation for all sorts of wildlife.

Another animal common to the washes, and possibly your backyard, is a javelina. It looks like a wild pig, but it's really a peccary. Hey, after all those tit jokes I read, I thought I'd throw in some pecks for the ladies:-)

And of course, living in the Southwest, if it's a non-flip-flop day, you learn to check your shoes for scorpions.

We live suburbia, GTA, Ontario, Canada.

I've seen:
raccoons, skunks, deer (white-tailed), possums, coyotes aren't far away, foxes, squirrels, and for birds -- blue jays, red cardinals, black-capped chickadee (our equivalent to tits ), various sorts of hawks, herons, falcon, owls, doves, numerous types of sparrows and finches, woodpeckers, numerous butterflies and moths....and the occasional garter snake.

That's all I remember "off the top of my head". I'd remember more when I give it some thought!

I also forgot to add, beavers (they are relocated soon after the city discovers them cutting down city trees!), rabbits, mink, Canada geese, various ducks, comorants, (great lakes -- usually herring) gulls, and wild swans (during migration)

thanks scifigirl09 for telling me of your native plants, very fasinating stuff. just to let you know you can post plants on here too, its not just about the things that move. plants are part of the life in wildlife you know lol. at the moment i am starting to find out what plants and insects are about. im a keen birdwatcher but most of the birds here are moulting at the moment, so they are quiet and less active. so it gave me time to identify plants and for a beginner i have identified quite a few native british species including 2 species of orchid: southern marsh and pyramidal, though they are common, they are nontheless hard to find so im really pleased of what ive found

Well besides the wildlife that live in the camps in this Oilsands town lol... We live in Bear country!!! I have yet to see one though. We have deer, wolves, foxes: One fox visits us almost every night and tries to lure our cats. He is not very bright as he makes an eerie call in the middle of the night ( google fox call: creepy) it wakes me up and I have to shoo him away. We also have Cougars and dumpster drivers.

Have an Awesome weekend :)
