Lies are evil no matter what religion you are also! Right? One man's truth is another man's lie...
Who is to say what is and what is not evil?
To me, evil does not exist.. there is only *love*.. all else an illusion in need of healing...
But that is.. of course, only my perception.. we all have them, don't we?
Each of us adds our perceptions to the paradigms affecting the whole... personally I find it more useful to place my focus upon that which I am contributing :)

Just alittle crazy? Religion just a word? Come on now. know its not. Let me tell you what a gun and religion do. People say a gun doesnt shoot people stupid people do. Then how about we take out all the guns and see if that same stupid person shoots anyone. Religion! You say its just a word. Lets take that word away and everything that falls under it and where would we be? None of these storys would have made to they year 2008. Thats how strong guns and religion is. You continue to blame people for doing things that is given to them. If we wanted to stop people being shot/murdered then we would take away guns. It would solve our problem. If we cant agree on a so called true event then we should just scrap the thing!

So many reasons why too but I think you know its not really religion. Some would say its our in breed nature. Would a mother protect her child if she felt they were to be harmed?

How about that Catholics believe you shouldnt eat meat on Friday and Christians eat meat anytime they want including friday. Wouldnt that make Catholics think Christians are somewhat bad?
Catholics are Christians. Most Christians in the world are Catholics; the second largest Christian group is Orthodox, and then Protestants. When the Pope, for example, makes an address or homily/sermon to his flock, he calls them his fellow Christians. And when someone undergoes conversion and baptism in the Catholic Church, he goes through a process called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.
Sorry, the whole segregating of "Catholics and Christians" as though they are distinct is kind of a pet peeve for me; it's like saying "German shepherds and dogs" or "black people and human beings".
As for your question, I don't care what Protestants or Orthodox eat on Fridays. Eating meat on Fridays isn't a sin for Catholics because meat is somehow intrinsically evil on one day of the week. It's a sin for us because our Church has bound all Catholics to make penance on all Fridays of the year in memory of Good Friday and the Crucifixion; abstaining from meat is a simple way of remembering that.

"When I am king, you will be first against the wall with your opinion which is of no consequence at all" ------------------------------------------------------------------- Hear ye the word of your Lord and your God:
Luk 19:11-27 (11) And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear. (12) He said therefore, A certain noble man went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. (13) And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. (14) But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. (15) And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. (16) Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. (17) And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. (18) And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. (19) And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities. (20) And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: (21) For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou laidst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow. (22) And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: (23) Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? (24) And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds. (25) (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) (26) For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. (27) But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

Where is there an ancient civilization without a god belief?
Probably is'nt one, but tell me Csonka...
Where is there an ancient civilization that had a peaceful coexistence with their neighbors WITH god belief?

so tell me why everyone having there own religion is not evil?
You might just as well ask why everyone having their own fingerprint is not evil... We are unique individuals! What is so hard to grasp about that? There is no way anyone will ever have the exact same outlook as you... They would need to share your brain and mind for that.
I say again if you believe in a religion you believe that something happened on this earth that has been documented. If you believe that then there is naturaly only one truth to you becuase reality has only one truth.
What if the Way you follow says that all Ways make up the Great Way? What if your religion says not to trust history 100% and to question all truths?
Religion just a word? Come on now. know its not. Let me tell you what a gun and religion do. People say a gun doesnt shoot people stupid people do. Then how about we take out all the guns and see if that same stupid person shoots anyone.
Flashback to "All in the Family"---"Would you rather they was pushed outta windows?" -- Archie Bunker.
Religion! You say its just a word. Lets take that word away and everything that falls under it and where would we be?
Well, without some feeling of togetherness we would likely just alienate and abuse each other by material status or stupid stuff like skin colour and sex in order to have control and gain off others misfortune... Either way, without a compassionate understanding of "Live and let Live" you could take the guns away but others pain for individual gain would have alot more people being pushed outta windows.
Spiritual dogma is just a symptom of the disease.

Where is there an ancient civilization that had a peaceful coexistence with their neighbors WITH god belief?
You presume the one has to do with the other. Rather than me list all the civilisations that had "no god" beliefs (which you'll quickly disavow and we'll waste waste each others time with), modern and ancient, that failed miserably in spite of their State Atheism, why don't you present civilization that had peaceful coexistence with their neighbours and were WITHOUT god belief? I mean, that's your point isn't it, that "with god belief" = "no peaceful coexistence with neighbours" and "without god belief" = "peaceful coexistence with neighbours"?

| Religion is the True EVIL in the world Posted: 4/5/2008 10:07:25 AM | Re msg 435.
without god belief = peaceful coexistence with neighbours Define "peaceful coexistence". To my knowledge, as far as atheist states, as you put it, are concerned, albania comes to mind. Although ethnic albanians within serbia may have engaged serbian forces, those ethnic albanians were not from albania proper, but from serbia/yugoslavia. Albania has been successful in maintaining peace with her neighbours since "state atheism" was a part of the state proper.
One would also have to show that these previous "atheist states" as you put it, did engage in conflict with their neighbours as a result of atheism, ie: did the ussr invade hungary because there were too many believers and not enough non-believers? One would also have to show that hostilities were primarily due to atheism and the specific intention to spread or cause conflict in regard to said atheism, and not due to other political, ideological, ethnic/racial, or some kind of manifest destiny type of thinking or reason.

| Religion is the True EVIL in the world Posted: 4/5/2008 10:14:09 AM | having done some research, searching for answers....
how many people realize how the Gregoirian calendar came into place?
back in the times of the romans, and they'd been on a reform spree for some time already, their intent was to 'regulate' the people, herd us and conform us into becoming more manageable, and servicing their needs. our way of life today is a prime example of this.
the movie Zeitgeist opens our eyes to many things, most noteably how we've lost our connection to real life. i've been a star gazer pretty much from birth and i really enjoyed that part of the presentation.

there is only one illusion and that is the physical world we live in,or i should say the role of religion in the physical world.
How do you know this? Not evidence, but proof (if you please).
whether what we consider evil as a supposedly civilized society,or what the supposedly uncivilized world considers evil, there is a good and bad just as there is a night and day,and in the physical realm they do exist an example is a young child being raped and murdered as bad and a young child being loved and cared for as good.and irregardless of how educated we deem to be the truth is we are educated by another man/or woman and thier perception of life.
Not buying... "Evil" was only made up by mankind to get a feeling for good" but they are subjective terms... To a person murdering someone, in their mind they could be doing good... Now something is only absolute if it is not in dispute whatsoever... This means that "good" and "evil" are subjective terms and not comparable to a physical cycle of day and night.
The comparison made about one child being raped and one cared for is easy to see which is ethical and which isn't... But it's really just two examples of the way people behave... It isn't "good" or "evil" until we place judgement on it.
As i have written in a number of posts, this physical worlds sole purpoe is to be a host for the entity we call life, some call it soul,energy,spirit....
I agree.
And when we as a society realizes that, then and only then will religion be truly understood
Well, it will be understood up to a point... Religious and racial tolerance would be had we would learn from the differences between us... But, personal experiences with the divine will still differ greatly and you only get out of the world what you take in.
the movie Zeitgeist opens our eyes to many things, most noteably how we've lost our connection to real life. i've been a star gazer pretty much from birth and i really enjoyed that part of the presentation.

| Religion is NOT the True EVIL in the world Posted: 4/5/2008 1:01:52 PM | ^^^^^ This is what you asked:
why don't you present civilization that had peaceful coexistence with their neighbours and were WITHOUT god belief? as well, you go on to include the term "state atheism":
modern and ancient, failed miserably in spite of their State Atheism, why don't you present civilization that had peaceful coexistence with their neighbours and were WITHOUT god belief? I provided the example of albania. In our modern era, there are no such civilizations in the classic sense like ancient egypt, the mayans, or the romans, that have atheism integrated. The next best thing would be a state/country with integrated atheism, to use as such an example. I don't think I missed your point at all. Albanians have their own culture and ethnicity as well, not too different from a civilization in the classical sense like ancient egypt, or sumeria. Albanians have been able to maintain peace with their neighbors, ergo, an atheistic state can "have peaceful coexistence with their neighbours and were WITHOUT god belief."
The second part of my response was merely my observation that to prove an atheistic state, or even civilization for that matter did NOT co-exist peacefully with neighbours, due to atheist motives, one would have to show it first. My post did not necessarily have to specifically address yours only.

| Religion is the True EVIL in the world Posted: 4/5/2008 1:31:39 PM | first in regard to what is bad or good this is determined by the reaction of not only mankind but also by the animal kingdom, even a person who does the killing will react the same way if one of their own were killed unless the person is mentally handicap, and even then they may still understand that it is socially wrong because most people who do the murdering or any other evil try to cover it up.and even animals react the same way if they see one of their own being attacked...in most cases so nature as a whole has an inner instinct of what is right or wrong, pertaining only to the physical existance. if our world truly understands our make up and what we really are they will take care of each other somewhat like a farmer who plants a seed and waters it and feeds it etc etc to make sure it grows,we only have racial and religious animosity because we are too physical in our thinking and when we are like that we have a fear of death and the unknown thus if we dont understand a race or religion we fear it and react accordingly. and as far as the section pertaining to illusion i guess all i can say is irregardless of what happens in this physical world our true existance is released at death, the world is all about life yet the physical world thrives on physical attributions such as food, money warmth, and other physical needs and allthough they are needed for the physical host to exist it makes no difference to the life force within..it is the physical body which is thriving to keep the life within it,knowing that if it escapes(lol)then the physical host will exist no more, but the life will still continue...if all of mankind were removed from this planet the presence of life would still exist | |
|
| Religion is the True EVIL in the world Posted: 4/5/2008 6:46:48 PM |
in most cases so nature as a whole has an inner instinct of what is right or wrong, pertaining only to the physical existance.
Pertaining to their own survival... If a lion eats a deer, is the lion bad or good? To the family of the deer, the lion is bad but to the lion, it must hunt to feed it's own... "Good" and "evil" are subjective even in the animal kingdom.
if our world truly understands our make up and what we really are they will take care of each other somewhat like a farmer who plants a seed and waters it and feeds it etc etc to make sure it grows,we only have racial and religious animosity because we are too physical in our thinking and when we are like that we have a fear of death and the unknown thus if we dont understand a race or religion we fear it and react accordingly.
I agree that we will be more compassionate when we see that we are all connected because causing pain to another would be like causing pain to ourselves... That is the best way to make an ethical choice (I figure)--the least pain caused= the ethical choice-- I am with you on the rest of that paragragh as well.
As for illusion, being separate from the rest is the illusion which creates the need for an objective "good" and "evil" when it's all just shades of the same thing... This separates us and causes us to form little groups in order to feel like we belong in a world we couldn't not belong in.
Duality is our tool, but we are really One.(imo)

| Religion is the True EVIL in the world Posted: 4/5/2008 7:22:00 PM | | i guess you could say if the crime is committed against the grain if a man commits murder in self defense it is still wrong but yet acceptable likewise in the animal kingdom animals only kill for survival not out of hatred, that same lion after his fill may drink at the same watering hole with other members of the animal kingdom.it is when the crime is commited like i said against the grain. The illusion is the physical world in relation to the spiritual/life force...the life force does not depend on the physical host but the host depends on the life force...without the host the life force still is,but without the life force the host will not exist.religion in relation to our true being is like 10 different men wearing 10 different colored coats(skin colors or religious dogma)when the coats are removed they all realize hey we are one in the same, again the illusion of the physical world | |

Fist Sassyaquarius: I say again if you believe in a religion you believe that something happened on this earth that has been documented. If you believe that then there is naturaly only one truth to you becuase reality has only one truth. I find it difficult to understand what you mean... something documented? As in "the word of God"? Trust me when I say I am not a proponent of that concept, nor am I religious person... but labelling religion as a whole "evil" is ludicrous to me...
It is easy to point fingers outward at that which is percieved as dark and ugly without looking at and cleaning the darker recesses within our own being... which was my whole point about what we each add to the overlying paradigms...
There is one absolute truth... which shines through us all in a myriad of unique facets.. both absolute AND relative, but again, that is only MY perception and not necessarily that of others..
sassyaquarious--- there is only one illusion and that is the physical world we live in You speak as though you are an authority on this... calling the physical world an illusion is a bold statement... especially without anything to substantiate said claim...
there is a good and bad just as there is a night and day When does night begin? When does day end? Night and day blend together and are BOTH a part of how we experience the passage of time... one corner of the world is dark while the other bright... one man's bad is another's good...
this physical worlds sole purpoe is to be a host for the entity we call life, some call it soul,energy,spirit....but whatever you call it that is the purpose of this world nomatter how you look at it Which is your perception and that is fine, but you cannot then assume that that is how everyone else either does or should percieve the purpose of life..
For purpose is individually determined ;)
Stone:
As for illusion, being separate from the rest is the illusion which creates the need for an objective "good" and "evil" when it's all just shades of the same thing...
