Even back in those days if you where a non believer you would be tied to a stake or even tortured in some cases a public execution what it dose is put a scare in to the publics eyes thats where control takes over. And the one who has control also can manipulate those in to believing such things for exsample Jone's town rev jim jones who had more than 900 people in the Guyanese jungle was the the largest mass suicide. And thease people chosen because he believed that region would be safe in the event of a nuclear attack.That God so he claim would deliver them to the promise land by killing them self's pretty scary ha. This is a perfect exsample of what control and manipulate can do over religion. So was it any better during the time befor or after christ? I dont believe so the killing the control and everything was there and even happens today. For me reading the bible kind of puts you in to a fantasy where you learn of a all mystical being that teachs you a man can walk on water not frozen mind you but plain water or split the water in half i have never seen water that can do that proberly never will. no one knows its true all we knew it was written in a book and how do we realy know if there is a god ? that to was written in a book but to use what has been written some out there took it to the next level and some even thought they where god or given a command by god to do his will now some can try to debate this but have you not heard or seen this your self you have preachers on tv making money on religion you have places selling all types of stuff why not its become a money making thing like anything else. So is religion evil It can be in a lot of ways but dont take my word for it thats something you have to decide on your own .
