| Your Gym? Posted: 5/14/2008 10:23:28 PM | | I go to 24 hour fitness sport, and besides the reasonable cost and vast assortment of equipment I really like the 4am crowd that I work out with! | |

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/15/2008 3:30:02 PM | Saxon Centre in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, UK :)
34 pounds a month (68 bucks) which is cheap. Gym and swim.
All new technogym kit with video screens, free weights section, smith machine and preacher curl station. Bit light on weights, but overall its a decent place.
Shame I moved 20 mins away, but starting a new 6 week program that will see Me in there 4 times a week, so I'll get My moneys worth! :D

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/15/2008 4:16:20 PM | It's FREE! I joined the gym a few years back when I was at my lowest emotionally, and going there regularly cheered me up endorphinetically. The promise of endorphins wake me up daily to go...now it's the 2nd promise of a 6-pack (not beer or cola ) | |

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/15/2008 5:48:46 PM | Years ago I went to "price" a nearby gym membership.
After thinking long and hard I realized that I was so motivationally deficient it would be hard to get myself TO the gym. Plus, I'd be so self conscious about going to the gym I'd be spending more time trying to dodge the crowds and concentrating on how I was going to look by choosing appropriate attire.
I made the plunge and just bought the equipment and converted a bedroom into an excercise room. I figured I can wear what I want and work out when I want without being self-conscious of anyone scrutinizing me.
I figured if I fell off the wagon, at least I could recoup some of my investment whereas a gym membership would have been a wash.
Every now and then when a workman comes into the house, if they have the opportunity to look into that exercise room they always say SWEEEEEEEET!
I guess I bought the right stuff.

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/18/2008 5:14:33 AM | | I joined Bally's in Ohio and it was very clean, unfortunately my contract with them lasts until next January, so when I switched to the nearest one in MD, I was not impressed and yes it is a real meat market...I go in, do my lift, and book out...its not dirty(but not super clean).... most of the Trainers know only bare minimun, the equipment is fixed fairly fast(which is good), they run out of the cleaning cloths for the machines fast, the pool(who knows..i've seen it drained a few times, so thats good, that means they are keeping up with the chemical treatments, or so it appears...the classes look fun...but like I said kind of meat marketish and they close and open at crappy hours, lifting machines are decent, but its not in a great area of town...I'm switching to nearby gym..its clean, open 24hrs..which is really nice and conveneint, and although they have different machines to get your lift on(stupid, pressurized type)...its in a nicer area...they also have free weights and better cardio machines, nicer pool and basketball hoops, bigger track and all for the coast of 37.50 a month...whahooo! | |

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/18/2008 8:29:29 AM | In New York I go to "Pilates on Fifth" which teaches multiple pilates disciplines and machines.
http://www.pilatesonfifth.com/
In Virginia I belong to the Energy Club
http://www.theenergyclub.com/
which has an affiliated pilates studio (not as comprehensive as Pilates on Fifth, though). It's a great all purpose gym with a climbing wall and sport activities/vacations in which you can participate. There are even a couple of group reformer classes each week included in the cost of a gym membership.
This is the best all-purpose gym I've ever been to. I sure hope it doesn't get bought up by some big corporation.
I used to belong to the Vertical Club in NY before it got bought up by Bally's.

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/18/2008 8:32:29 AM | I lift in our dept's weightroom, the dungeon LOL. I'm one of two people out of about a hundered who have access that actually goes. Since it's basically mine, I moved things around where I want them, and take care of everything. It's nice to be able to go in, not wait for stuff, use chalk, and play whatever music I want on the old boombox. | |

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/21/2008 2:59:17 PM | | I choose to excersize at LA Fitness about 4 times a week. Sometimes 5:30 AM, sometimes 8PM. Less busy in the mornings. I used to manage one of them so I feel comfortable there. Been working out on and off for the most part of 16 years now. | |

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/21/2008 4:25:31 PM | | I attend an Martial arts gym, learning Muay Thai, kicking boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do and many other ones. Great working out at the start of class then learning to do massive damage to a person by kicking or punching. Wish someone would start a fight out with me in public, really want to see how much damage I can do. | |

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/21/2008 5:42:11 PM | Local gym, 100$/3 months. Love it because it is small and the owner gets involved with every single person who walks through the door. He makes me do stuff I don't want to do and I love him for it.
Kettlebell studio, 129$/ 1 month. I love the kettlebell, and this studio is also small. The two owners get involved with every single person who walks through the door. They yell at me for eating bananas and I love them for it. (They say not to eat any fruit you don't have to chew, lol) I havent been in a while because it is a bit far from my home, but I plan to re-commit to it soon.
Powerlifting club, free for me with a buddy pass. I dont go often because it is too far from my home, but I love it because the guys there are absolutely dedicated to the sport and completely insane. I just get a thrill from watching some dude deadlift 900 pounds. I go for the entertainment and what they can teach me.

| Your Gym? Posted: 5/21/2008 6:23:25 PM | | I work as a trainer at a gym that trains MMA fighters, but because we are only open in the evenings, I do my first workout of the day at 24hr Fitness | |
|
| Your Gym? Posted: 5/22/2008 10:15:29 AM | | I go to a local Gym which later got bought out by Gold's. Fortunately I'm still grandfathered in to the old contract rate, and they've turned it into 24 hours and replaced all the equipment with new things. I like the isolated powerlifting room idea, because now it's hard if you're trying to get in quick reps before you head out to find a bench at peak times. | |
|
| Your Gym? Posted: 5/29/2008 11:06:19 PM | I just like the amount and variety of machines at 24Hour Fitness --if one leg press machine is being used, I can just go to another one...same with the other machines.
I'd probably go to the gym a little more if they started offering gung-fu classes there. I took Northern Shaolin Gung-Fu at my last gym , and really enjoyed it.
|
| Your Gym? Posted: 5/30/2008 3:50:10 AM | | I like the rec centre that I go to because it's close to home. There are certain days of the week that they have ladies only nights and I love that. | |
|
| Your Gym? Posted: 5/30/2008 5:05:31 AM | Gym on whatever base I am on at the time for obvious reasons.
Motivation? I want to be strong to be prepared for whatever dramas life may throw at me. Running and so forth for job requirements are done outside the gym, inside is weights for me.
|
| Your Gym? Posted: 5/30/2008 7:11:13 PM | After training at a gym 3x a week, my ex bought me a power rack, bench, lat machine, olympic bar and weights. My garage is my gym. It costs whatever I buy for it. Open 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. No distractions (men doing pull ups).
I chose the gym I used to go to for it's reputation, price and it wasn't fancy so it wasn't crowded. I'm of the opinion... 1. running is free ...2. so is cycling and...3. how is it possible to lose weight and read a magazine at the same time?
I liked...1. the stepper. Sure, steps are free too but I couldn't find any close to home. People hate the stepper for good reason...2. Free weights. There was a section just for women but best of all, a huge section of free weights.

| Your Gym? Posted: 6/1/2008 12:22:37 AM | Set a goal for every single workout, it gives you something to look forward to in the short run while striving for your long term goal.
For example, if you squatted 300 pounds one week, the next try for 305. Eventually this drive will consume you and you will become addicted to the gym. It happens to the best of us :D

| Your Gym? Posted: 6/1/2008 8:48:24 AM | I think the hardest thing is the endurance factor, assuming the benefits far outway side affects, It has to fit genuinely in to your ongoing routine for it to endure. Like many others I started gym ETC then, it seemed to much trouble, like for instance "the traveling" . Perhaps I suffer, more than others from the sloth factor, but I have finally at around the age of 40 found something that I stick at...it works because I obviously enjoy it and, even more importantly it fits into my daily routine. I mountain bike to work(offroad through dissused railway and along a canal) which takes about 25mins eachway. Guys( or Gals) I've a question. I thinking about starting boxing with a punchbag. Any advice? | |

| Your Gym? Posted: 6/8/2008 11:30:25 AM | | Currently, i go to my local community centre and Hap-ki-do school. when im in College I use the school facilities. I used to belong to a more "private" gym but realized i wasn't getting anything more out of the extra fees. | |

| Your Gym? Posted: 6/10/2008 8:34:42 PM | What do I like about my gym? It's in the hospital I work in so I don't have to commute anywhere else. It's almost always empty when I'm there since I'm there around midnight. I like to work out alone, with my iPod cranked, belting out Rob Zombie or god knows what else. I like that it's small enough to feel cozy but large enough to have everything I need. I like that it's only $7/month - Actually. I REALLY like that! | |
