| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 10/6/2008 7:02:00 PM | | hanging out to me means just chilling with the person and nothing else...just spending time with them. although their was this one guy that decided to call dating a hangout and i totally had to re correct him because it wasnt a date!....i dont know how some people can get that mixed up? | |

| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 10/6/2008 8:51:46 PM | I thought hanging out is just a boring date. Nothing wrong with it, so long as the parties have no expectations beyond 'hanging out'; why is this a concern? | |
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 10/6/2008 9:13:46 PM | people read way too much into this stuff...
all relationships should begin with a 'hang out' phase.
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 10/8/2008 10:38:10 PM | | it means if I don't like you...I am just looking for friends...if I do...let's get it on!...for now..... | |
|

| Let's be friends......... Posted: 1/30/2009 8:24:33 PM | | Well, hanging out with me would always be fun and evolving, it doesn't have to involve sex...it could just be swilling beer and watching country music videos, sipping wine and watching some old classics or any movie, it could be going to a dive bar and singing karaoke, it could be going to baseball game, it could be going to a football game, someone to go whale watch or take a 1 hour tour boat ride around the harbor, going to a concert, but making it a full evening, going to Dave and Busters, go mini-golfing, go for a hike, bike rides are nice too, but you can't talk as much (I see so many people having a blast walking and talking at the lake), grab a coffee high and pier walk, see a new movie at the theatre.. | |
|
| Let's be friends......... Posted: 1/31/2009 12:15:34 AM | To me Hanging out- Is someone that want someone to talk to, eat with or go to the movies with because he/she may feel lonely, may not be ready to date, job or kids may make it hard date or have a constant frienship with someone. (Platonic Relationship)
Friend- Is someone that you may want to go out with or talk on the phone with on a daily or weekly basis forsay.
Intimate Encounters- Is about to people hooking up to have sex.
That's the part if you are not ready to date and you may be looking for someone to watch a movie or to go bowling with every so often, just because you want to get outside the house. Then you may be commiting POF suicide because a lot of people think that hanging out, friends and activity partner means the same as Intimate Encounter.

| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 1/31/2009 6:04:39 AM | I have an idea ..how about POF puts "FWB" in the looking for section lol!!..then well almost problem solved | |
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 1/31/2009 10:04:16 AM | I accidentally selected 'hang out' for what I'm looking for . (Don't ask). And for some reason I now get more responses than when I had what I was really looking for "Long Term". My page hits increased dramatically and so did my replies in general.
"Hang Out" could be fwb. But to me it's more like a euphemism for dating without the weird implications. "Hang out" "Date" all the same thing when you think about it..unless you've established this strictly platonic. I've noticed a lot of people on here select dating when they are doing just that: dating --multiple people at multiple times --just playing the field. As opposed to dating looking for something long-term or committed.

| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 1/31/2009 10:45:15 PM | | EnHarm0nicMystery was saying that he got twice as many responses by selecting hanging out. I don't know if it's true or not but i decided to change mine from Long Term to Hanging Out for curiousity sake. I hope it's not POF suicide but i'm definetly curious to see what will happen. | |

| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 2/1/2009 1:15:28 AM | To me it means to spend time together to see how you would relate in possibly forming a new friendship. If you have any commonalities that could form any bonding at all. If you are comfortable being around that person and what things if any you could learn about them. And not feeling pressured as some seem to feel when they go on dates. | |
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 2/1/2009 8:54:45 AM | I put that on my profile at first thinking the same thing you did.
I just wanted to meet new people, go out to eat, drink, just socially hang out. I had no idea people were interpreting it to mean I wanted to have a fling with anyone!! I thought that was why they have the other options of intimate encounter for!
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 2/1/2009 9:31:13 AM | To me hang out means you want to be friends or something. When my friends usually say "Lets hang out" it means lets basically do nothing at all. So its like not a date but on friendly terms and doing nothing unless you make plans with the other person. | |
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 2/18/2009 3:41:11 PM | | so a "hang out " is inbetween date and friendship... its a flaky date that doesnt cost any money ? lol | |
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 2/18/2009 5:53:39 PM | | I think it means, your not together, just among a group of friends. Just in case "something better" comes along. Not a big fan of "hanging out". | |
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 2/18/2009 6:00:28 PM | I still think it's ambiguous. As in, let's spend time together with no limits, and no expectations of what it's supposed to mean.
It could turn into dating, it could turn into friendship, it could turn into nothing, and both people know and agree with that as part of the deal.
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 3/12/2009 7:06:03 PM | For me, it simply means spending time together doing fun things...but not necessarily in a romantic-y way.
I think for others its more about casual no-strings sex though....im not sure.

Either way, it should NEVER be mistaken for a "date" because "dates" have a meaning of their own

| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 3/12/2009 7:15:57 PM | | Well i met a guy on here and he kept saying we'll hang out until we are comfortable with each other well excuse excuse excuse and when i asked him about it he said we are hanging out, on the phone and texting. | |
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 3/13/2009 4:12:00 AM | This is basically what I think most people are referring to when they add "hangout". My only issue is what about "dating"? I met up w/ a guy from POF whose pg was very detailed n promising..goal oriented etc. a while back. The day went well despite going a lil too fast.. then hasn't returned any texts or bothered calling like he said.. so would it be fair to say this one was very misleading and should have "hangout" instead?
Also I noticed he blocked me on here..and Im not one of those crazy women wanting to harrass the guy.. I just want answers is all..Im a fairly understanding person..the way I see it is if you tell me the truth and whats on ur mind I can only respect you more for having the guts to be upfront, ya know?
*Incase I don't respond to the comment back feel free to msg me on here.. I haven't really explored the forums much, but hope to gain some more knowledge!

| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 3/13/2009 6:34:49 AM | | My interpretation after several months here is that hangout means someone who will have sex with the right person but doesn't want to say that so no one can claim that anything was implied by corresponding with each other. | |
|
| What exactly does hang out mean Posted: 3/13/2009 6:42:32 AM | | To me it means you are willing to just hang out or will have sex with someone if you feel like it while you are hanging out. You're not looking to actively date or find something long term. | |
