| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 2/29/2008 9:17:03 PM | When I was 28, I thought I knew and understood people and life quite more than I do now. As you get older, you may see how much you really didn't know in your 20's, then 30's and by 40, it should be official. You don't know as much as you thought you did. You don't understand mature women, with all due respect. It can get very boring trying to relate to someone who hasn't experienced all the different adventures we've gone through to get to where we are. For myself, I apreciate being able to talk about more than just some stud's "sexual fantasies". Now, I only wish men my age would do the best they can with what they have. I like it when a man tries to look the best he can because he too is looking for that gorgeous woman that seems so hard to find when we reach 50. We do not have to go downhill in the looks department without a fight. | |

Okay, glad to hear you're having a good time.
[Quote] Im having a hard time trying to find a guy who wants to this unless hes like 30. most guys in their 50s want to stay home watch tv or go for a hike or bike ride or golf. [/quote:
When I was in my teens and my early twenties, I love to go to the clubs, have a few beers and dance that night away. But that was then, and this is now, and these days, my choice of activities is more subtle than brash -- more the want of a challenge of going out to find some good light to make some good photographs, or to sit with others in a quiet venue to have good, intimate conversation, rather than trying to yell in each other's ear in a noise nightclub just to no longer have to complete with overly loud music.
And I imagine it's the same with may guys who might be older than their 20's or their 30's -- at one time the club scene was fun for use, but that was then, this is now, and our grown tastes might have want of more intellectual challenge than what we experienced live to be like year ago in a bar where the music is so loud just the excessive thumping of it all can be a vexation to the spirit.
*********************
i hate to think its time to stay home and knit in the rocking chair !
At 49 now, I love to travel, and to meet new people, and to learn about their lives, and perhaps to photograph them. I also love the challenge of seeing what images I might shoot which, even when shot with relatively the most humble of camera gear, best reveals how my skils have improved over the years that than any more just to a mind-numbing overly loud bar scene.
The point being this: you seem to see for yourself only two choices in life: do the bar scene thing, or else just stay home to knit in rocking chair. But 57 does not mean you any longer have to act like your 27, nor does it mean you have to act like you're 87. Indeed there are a large spectrum of activities for each phase of our life, and it is just that... a spectrum... rather than a singular ethier /or choice.
But if you still like going to the bars, if you still like dancing, then perhaps you just need someone in in your life who's of a somwhat similar age and familiar mindset.
And tht's about the best I can say about that. Just so long as you y0urself are enjoying the day so your life.

Just an observation ,,,, went to the local bar just recently , was a young guy there singing and playing the guitar,, he was quite good ,,, among the people there were a few men my age ,, just quietly listening and have a drink ,, and there was a group of women around our age ,, trying to sing with the young guy ,, obviously enjoying themselves ,, and being quite noisy ,,( hence making it difficult for the young guy singing , and those trying to listen ) .
Slowly the men got up and just quietly walked out the door ,,
perhaps that helps with your inquiry ......

| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/2/2008 10:19:30 AM | I'm new here, Charla but I want to put my 57 year old cents worth in, too. As long as you are happy dancing and your life is full, that's great. At this stage of our lives, happiness is more precious than ever, I believe. So enjoy your own path, dearie and dance away! Sal | |

I agree. No bars for me either unless they are in a foreign country and I'm experiencing the local culture.

...honest....it wasn't me. Besides, if I wanted to sing, I would go on karaoke night.

| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/2/2008 6:15:28 PM | What is different? Bars...it means people have fun ....because they are drinking... | |
|
| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/2/2008 7:23:04 PM | | AAHhh-- cougar material. Actually, I drink very little and would rather go to the theater or do something in the sunshine. The women I'd be interested in will not be found in a bar, especially not alone. Have fun- everyone has something they just have to do. | |

| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/2/2008 10:52:22 PM | Stilleto's! Now that's an idea I have toyed with from time to time. Tell me, will it matter if I'm not "quiet" as thin as I used to be? Maybe if I let my nails grow long to match the spikes on my heels. Whew!! All that could be enough to keep a girl at home, twisted ankle and all! | |
|
| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/3/2008 1:19:12 AM | | 1girlfriend:- my mate did the stiletto thing and did twist her ankle, he was a knight in shining amour, carried her down the path and everything, shame it didn't last he lived too far off. | |

| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/3/2008 4:41:03 PM | Hi, junipermoon! Glad to see a lady on here from my part of the universe.....yep, you KNOW what I'm talking about. My work has caused me to travel to your area, and Mount Union, and all I can say to you is "good luck and God bless...."
In addition to NASCAR and Budweiser, don't forget about fishing (which I like to do), and hunting (no, not for me.....I'm not willing to "field dress" anything, or eat anything that isn't raised domestically.......)
I once ordered a Blue Moon, and the local yokel asked me if selling "moonshine" was "legal in Pennsylvania!"
YIKES! | |

| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/3/2008 4:41:23 PM | I dont want to party. I have more pressing needs. I need someone who knows how to use guns to take me under their wing and show me how to shoot...both a handgun and a shotgun.
Soon.
Fishing might be good to learn too.
|
| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/3/2008 5:03:33 PM | | Bethlett, forget about the shotgun and hand gun....why not go for an AK-47????? That way, you're guaranteed to hit SOMETHING....whether or not you take the "target practice..." | |
|
| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/3/2008 5:12:39 PM | | Do men go to the bar to pick up women only? I like to go and listn to live music, and dance, and I like to just sit at home and watch a movie and eat popcorn too. Depends on my mood. | |

...You got that right haha. Seriously though I used to frequent this great dance club for my age group...they closed for renovations and guess what? Re-opened and all the music they play is geared to 20 somethings.

| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/3/2008 8:39:30 PM | Mae...I know what you mean.....it seems all the clubs are now catering to the younguns! Damn! The Ranchman's used to be a great place, but now it is sooooo loud and soooooo full of 20 somethings! I love to dance and there just isn't really any place to go now for us mature ladies and gents......oh ya....there is the Legion! It seems we're toooooo old or.....toooooo young! I'm not ready for the rockin chair yet!
I wonder why alot of the men say they like to dance.....but...the truth be known they don't even KNOW how to dance! Just like they say they like to go for walks.......like where?????? to the fridge for another beer?????
|
| Over 50 And NO Fun ! Posted: 3/3/2008 9:02:03 PM | Okay I just have to jump in here. Yeah the Legion........Been there, done that! I just feel too young for that place, even though my Dad was a veteran and I'm a 15 yr. member and proud of it. I have a high regard for what the Vets have done. It's not a place I enjoy socializing in......too many old guys It just amazes me the guys who say they like to dance but don"t even know a simple step, like the two-step. Seems like they all know how to "pump the well", though. What fun is that? Fella's, if you want to win a woman's heart..........take notes, learn to dance because "they" say dancing is like making love. | |
