Women: Would you date a guy that is shorter than you are,,,, Why/Why Not?Page 7 of 8    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
I did see this couple once where the girl was about 5'6 and the guy about 5'1 and they were very PDA in a large crowd as everyone waited for the subway train to arrive...

I don't want to go out with anyone shorter than myself either, it would be too weird. I am 5'3. Preferably someone my height or taller.

Someone shorter than me would look more like my son, then a partner that would be funny.

I'm 5' 3" and I've got myself a 5' hotty. Wouldn't trade him for anything. I've dated tall and short... it's no matter to me either way. It's what's inside that's the real measure of a man.

If there's a guy on here that's shorter than me I'd be amazed!!!! Although I totally understand the size matters thing. I rarely message a guy that's over 5'11" [unless there's something in his profile that begs to be answered] because I have yet to have someone that is a foot taller than me even consider reading past where it says 5'0.
As for "would I date someone shorter" than me...probably. It would still depend on chemistry.

To be honest, I don't think I could. I'm 5'5 and 90% of the time I wear heals. I've always been attracted to men that were 5'10 or taller. I think it stems from the fact my dad was short and subconsciously I think years ago I was looking for a partner to make taller babies (joking!). Over the years, I have dated shorter men and I'm fine with that, just not shorter than myself. 5'7 and up is good for me!

A guy can actually buy shoes that add 2 to 4 inches to his height. They're sort of a combination of a raised heel in the back and thick soles. If a women can increase her height simply by the kind of shoes she decides to wear a man should also have that option. Only seems fair ladies.

Great, now we're going to see couples/people walking on stilts to compete for height. Some stilts will be taller than others, and then people will continue to grow even taller with TALLER stilts. Where does the madness end?

I know...this height thing is completely ridiculous and out of control.

Girl: I could NEVER date a guy who was shorter than 5'8"!
Guy: *Puts 2 inch hidden inserts into his shoe and goes from 5'6" to 5'8"*
Girl: "Well, hello handsome!"

You mean lifts? Every man and woman would laugh at that guy. It just shows everyone his insecurity.

I've dated a woman taller than me. There were no problems. (I'm 6'0" , she was about 6'1 or 6'2).

I only think this is probably true for a guy who is already tallish or at least of average height. For a guy who is actually short, then I don't think wearing lifts is a reflection of insecurities on HIS part. It's a realization that much of the world (especially women) will be biased (unfairly) against him. So by becoming taller (even artificially) he can avoid at least some of that.

First...I wear lifts. I figure she wont know until morning.

Second...I do not wear them because I am insecure. I wear them because of superficial women. They help to level the playing field a little.

Not the same as dating a short guy. Your profile says that you are 6'0" and so you are tall for a guy, even though that particular woman was slightly taller. A tall woman has fewer opportunities to be with a taller man, it's more of a matter of statistics than insecurity for a woman who is 6'2".

However, a short man is considered inferior in our society, so a woman would face a stigma double whammy by dating a short man who is also shorter than her. (1) A stigma attached to dating a shorter man....and (2) an additional stigma attached to dating a man who many (most?) of our society signifies as automatically inferior.

So the woman who you dated only had to deal with the first stigma (dating a shorter man), but not the later stigma of dating a short man.

So, she may or may not be insecure. To prove that she isn't insecure, we would have to see if she has dated a short man (maybe, 5'6" or shorter).

I'm 5'9 and am not really that attracted to guys shorter than me... I don't know if it's the kissing down thing, but that's one of them, or the being my protector thing, as I'm pretty independent. But it is a prerequisite of mine... and I prefer even taller than me too because if I wear heals, and I often do, I'm that much taller. You know the knee high black boots with a four inch heal... they're fun to wear... I don't think I'd be comfortable walking into a place with some one so much shorter... also, I'm not a small chic either, so maybe it's my own insecurity, but be that as it may, I couldn't make myself look anymore of a giant walking in a bar. I mean all girls like attention, but not the gawking kind...lol Now, I know this sounds bad for guys under 6 foot, but there are a lot more shorter girls out there, in fact all my friends are shorter than me and still have problems hooking up because of guys' hang ups too! Lets face it we all have them. And as guys' definitely won't date someone bigger, some girls won't date shorter guys. As some guys won't date a girl with boobs under a D cup, some chics won't date a guy with facial hair(absolutely not a hang up of mine, love gotees) So, sorry, but tht's reality... C

I always went with guys 6' and now that I am single there are a lot of guys in the 5'6" or 5'8" height. I have been standing by some in the lineup at the grocery store to compare heights. . Also asking my friend's hubbies how tall they are. I think it would be nice dating that height. More of a cuddle bug height and no more sore necks for me looking up all the time. It is just a change in attitude you have to make and try it. Get out of your standard rut. I also recently dated a guy with blue eyes for the first time. It was strange at first looking at blue eyes instead of brown but it was nice. And by the way he was 5'7".

Well, being 21, short and in college, I can tell you that YES! Girls DO love short men, even if they are taller. The funny thing is, no one really knows who they want, or who they'll be attracted to. Sure you may have some guidelines, and general requirements, but you never know when that one man or woman will come along and sweep you off of your feet. Believe it or not, I've been in more relationships than I can count, with both tall girls, short girls, fat girls, skinny girls, any kind of girl. My ex was 6'1, tan and blonde, and I'm only 5'4, 5'6 with shoes.
To be honest, and from my experiences, girls pretend to know what they want, when in fact they have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what they really want! Most tall girls are also EXTREMELY insecure about their size, so of course they go after the tall guys to make them feel secure, and look better in public. Would you honestly want to date this type of girl? A girl who is so insecure with herself, that she is limiting herself to just taller guys for materialistic reasons? Hell no, I don't want a girl like that!

Smile. Smile at women, take chances. Be creative, flirty, somewhat**** (don't over do it, we all know the Napoleon complex, and NO ONE WANTS THAT). Be charming, sweet, daring. Girls want someone that will keep them on their toes, someone spontaneous. No one wants to date someone all gloomy because of their height!!!!! They wanna date someone with energy, someone they can have fun with.

I study in the library a lot...I make it a HABIT of smiling at attractive girls of all sizes. One day, a beautiful girl, maybe 5'11, walked by and locked eyes. I smiled, she smiled back, I asked how her day was going.....and then bam, next thing I know I'm taking her out to coffee. It's easy guys, just don't be stupid, creepy, pervy, etc.

HAVE CONFIDENCE! If you aren't comfortable with your own body and how you look, how will you ever convince someone to be the same?

My .02 cents with, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

First it depends on the person and what they have going for them. Second, how much shorter are we talking about. If the person is significantly shorter (i.e. they are below my waistline) then I would (and have) felt uncomfortable. Second, I would feel like I was having sex with a child. I'm 5'9 although most people perceive me to be much taller so it comes up. hth

I agree with what Chargodess has written. It is really a preference to be with someone taller, and I guess its how it makes me feel. I completely disagree with JD, shorter men are not inferior in any way except for some of them that wish they were taller and feel the need to act differently because of it (agressive etc.). I can honestly say I do not have a judgement about short men as men but how I would feel in a relationship with them. My insecurity about me, not anything about them.
