| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 1:59:38 PM | I am not really saying anyone was disappointed, but with a better idea that all of the people that said yes were actually going to show up, then this could have been a lot more organized. After a while, it just got too crazy in the bar area. If I had a megaphone, I would have told everyone that they could use the lounge area.
Before the next event is actually scheduled, I just need to clarify something with the manager. He said a DJ would be provided and they would set up a bar in the lounge.
My question would be.. who is responsible for paying the DJ?
If I tell him that we will have 150 people again, then you would think that's enough of an incentive for them to work with us on this.
Even if every person buys only 1 drink, that's enough to generate anywhere from $800 to $1200 or more.
I will find out during the week exactly what the particulars are so there is no confusion.
BTW, it wasn't me that grabbed your azz either.

| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 2:10:15 PM | See with the whole dj thing. You have to go to a bar who has the dj already set up. So it's a less of an issue for the host. And if the bar has a 5buck cover charge or not that is CHEAP AND GOOD.
Just always tell the owner of the bar you think there will be btwn 60-100 people showing up all over 21 and older. Mix age range. And if it would be okay to show up two hour's before the dj music go on. So everyone can mingle while they can hear each other.
That's How I do it in Long Island or try to at least. Bri if you have questions how to get around certain problems like money wise or whatever. Your more then welcome to Email me and ask away. There is always a way of getting around thing's!!!!!! Easy way out is the best way so you the host or any host won't lose any money! Since after all this is plenty of fish is free and fun and the events should be close to the same thing as well....
FYI you can't please everyone. Some people are just ment to be unhappy. BUT more then half will always be happy and show up and have fun like LAST NIGHT!!!!!

| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 2:15:15 PM | No matter what you do or how something is planned, there will always be someone that has to throw in a negative comment.
Examples: Crowd too young, crowd too old.
The bottom line is this..
Last night's event was considered a social. It was meant for everyone to get out from behind their computer and meet the people you have been corresponding with the last few months.
I would not classify it as a full scale singles event as it wasn't set up that way.
I have always said.. if you can't have a conversation with someone, regardless of what their age is, then STAY HOME!!
Most of the people in my group are just happy to get out with others and have a good time.
If you meet someone in the process, then that's a good thing too.
Anyway, I forgot to mention this before, but kudos goes out to Mike for the name tags and sign in sheet.
I actually had tags for my group, but we all know each other so I guess no one wanted to wear them.

| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 2:19:40 PM | I agree with you about the bar thing, but most of the clubs and bars out here really suck and would not be able to have a gathering that big.
If we can set something up in the lounge with music and a bar, I think it would actually bring out more people.
If by some chance, they want to impose a $5 cover, I don't think that is asking too much.
It would also be nice if they had some drink specials for our group too.

| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 2:25:27 PM | | Hey Mailguy and {Plumber I actually just got done speaking with my friend who owns Illusions on Nelson Ave. He said that he would be more than willing to work something out with you guys that would cater to events like this. He said he would have an inhouse DJ with light music and tables set up for mingeling. If you guys are intersted please contact me. He told me to give you guys his number. He also said he he would be able to have whatever food you might want if needed. He's a great guy and I am sure price wise it wouldnt be a huge expense. Email me and I will give you all the details. | |

| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 2:41:28 PM | Thank you Brian....................................well put, but I must disagee with you on the $5.00 cover charge.............................I will not ever hold a meet where my people have to pay one dime to get out and have a good time. The money the Hilton made on last nights event must of been overwhelming!!!!
I can bring this group of people anywhere, and have the Owner accomadate us for just what he makes at the bar.......................................A cover charge is out of the question for an event like this!!!!!!!
If we decide to have a dinner meet, that's different!

| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 2:44:52 PM | Michie, thank you...................I too know some people at Illusions, I'll will speak to them about it. If you and Brian want to get together one night, we can talk about an event there.
Sounds great Michie, good looking out!!!!!
|
| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 2:46:12 PM | It was only a speculative thought on my part, that's all.
Regarding Illusions, another group did an event there in Dec 2006. They charged $10 cover and said there would be drink specials and food. I didn't go, but I heard it was horrible.
I also agree with you that most places would be more than happy to have a turnout like last night every month. They should bend over backwards for us and do whatever it takes to make sure we come back all the time.

| Staten Islanders First Meet N Greet Gathering - March 14 Posted: 3/15/2008 3:13:40 PM | Seems you had a great time. I was thinking about the get together most of the night while I was working. I couldn't reschedule the job. I never signed up but did want to go. Well maybe next time. I noticed in the posts there was no DJ. Someone should have thought of a Karaoke machine. Those are fun. Glad it was a great turn out for all the | |
