I do love accents! My best friend is from Louisiana and when he calls and says "haaaaah" (hi for us Northerners) I just laugh.

Then again, when I "pahhk my cahh" at him he laughs, too.

I have a southern accent that I wish I could lose. Unfortunately I think I am stuck with it. I sound like a mix of Johnny Cash and Sawyer from Lost.

Any man who has an accent and a good command of the English language (not butchered slang and ebonics) can make my knees buckle. But I have a "thing" for voices. I also adore a deep voice. When a man possesses a deep voice and an accent, he could talk me into just about anything.

When I speak to a man with a great voice and/or accent, I fantasize about just laying with my eyes closed listening to him talk.

well im english but i live in america, so as far as im concerned everyone here has an accent lol. Im quite happy with the one of us having an accent in a relationship. I can change mine at will which deos creep a few people out. (not like that woman on the today show but i can do a few). I dont think i;d mind the mistakes, depending what their original language was i would be inclined to learn it so that we could converse in either, i think it would be sexier for us to speak in soemthing taht wasnt english. i might poke a little fun at the amusing mistakes but all in good humour.

i love a southern drawl. especially when the words"darlin" and "mah goodness" are involved.

Just for the record, when a foreigner comes over to the US, and they speak to you, they aren't speaking "American", it's a language called "English" and many more countries than the US are speaking it.

Actually most likely the german will be speaking english when coming to the US. All of us learn it from 5th grade on. However that still won't get you anywhere since here they speak american english, add a drawl/slang to that and any foreigner will be lost. I have quite a few stories from when I first moved here and misunderstood.
What annoys me though, as soon as they pick out your accent.. for some reason everyone thinks we foreigners are deaf and speak very loud and slowwwwwww yet forget to pronounce their words a little better to be understood.

I usually get tuned in to accents / grammer irregularities pretty fast if I'm friends with someone. Then I wind up adopting the expression. I like to travel and learn languages myself, so when I spend time away from home, or time with alot of foreigners from the same country, their accents and grammer mistakes start to dominate my own english if I'm not careful. (It took me months to stop saying, "Since when did you come to America" when I got back from Germany). I also taught ESL for a while, and this overwhelmed my english for months even after class was finished.

As for being turned on by it, it's nice at first, but once you get used to the accent, it sort of fades into the background, for me, anyway.

...Unless it's an irish accent

I love the English and Aussie accents! I also love the Chinese and Korean accents. As for me, I speak a big mix of 3 accents. My grandparents are French-Canadian, so I have a lot of French accent in my speaking. I grew up in the northeastern US in a border state, so I have some of that accent thrown in as well, not to mention I've spent half my life in the southeastern US, so I've got some southern mixed in as well.

I had some British friends come here once and they were smoking...well, In Britain, they refer to cigarettes as "fags" and one of my friends was finished with a cigarette and said out loud that he could really use another fag LOL. After I told him what that meant in North America, he was quite embarrassed!

What about people who can fake an accent? Is it still hot or do they look/sound like losers for being fake.

Is a Southern drawl(sp) an accent or just the reslt of an over weight tongue from deep frying everything?

Watching this travel show the other day, apparently ya'all eat deep fried Mars bars? Yuck, but apparently (again) they taste really good. Hmmmm

My friend from Tennesse came over to England, for a holiday/vacation, and every time she spoke all the English guys around would prick up their ears, and usually smile at her, the fact that she was good looking ,may have something to do with the smile

Aren't those deep fried Mars bars a Scottish delight originally?

Faking an accent is never the same, usually it doesn't quite go right. So yes, one would just end up sounding like a sad case.
