I live alone with a cat, does that make me gay? lol
Wow. Most men I meet HATE cats - and I have 2 of them.
Christ, I'm 44 and live alone with a dog that thinks it's human. I'll probably be hanging from the shower curtain by morning.
One of my cats thinks it's a dog. He'll run up to strangers and paw at their legs to get them to pet him. He likes to roll over on his back (in front of strangers and their dogs) to have his belly scratched. And the clincher is that when the doorbell rings he runs right to the front door and starts mewing.

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/9/2008 5:27:58 PM | I don't get why that would be a bad thing. I live alone with 3 cats and a dog..... I must really be a loser and terrify people. What is so weird about having pets? I happen to love animals and they are a big part of my life, and refuse to date anyone who doesn't like that about me or doesn't like my animals. I like guys with dogs and cats and all kinds of critters. Especially ones that adopt. I think it shows compassion and commitment and a little selflessness. | |

seems many women dont want an independant man.
What kind of man do you think they do want then? What impression have you been getting about that?
I can't imagine a woman being turned off by a man having the means to have his own place. I much prefer men who live alone over ones who live with roommates, and certainly women aren't out searching for a guy still living at home. The dog thing I could do without, but that's just because I wouldn't want to live with a dog myself and would like to imagine a future with a new lover that might include someday living together. If the woman doesn't mind living with a dog herself, then even that would be irrelevant information at the worst.
I think you must have missed an important part of that conversation. Maybe the preceding comment was something like, "He said he can't stand people, hopes global warming does wipe out all human life on Earth so the animals can be better off, and wants a woman who is willing to be a survivalist with him out in the woods of Montana, living alone with him and his dog."

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/9/2008 9:39:16 PM | | A man living alone with his dog or dogs is a huge plus. It would be music to my ears. I think that is a great situation for a single man in his 30 s. Responsible, indipendant and an animal lover! | |

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/9/2008 10:27:03 PM | Well you know what they say...give them a plant and if they can keep it alive...then give them a dog and if they can adjust their lives around the hair all over the bathroom floor... the whining to go out and begging for treats...give them a woman

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/9/2008 10:48:45 PM | | Why do you think one sentence out of an over heard conversation suggests a secret female suspicion of men living alone with dogs? Why do you think that conversation had anything at all to do with you? Really, I have no idea what those women were talking about. Niether do you. Feeling self conscious lately? | |

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/9/2008 11:08:30 PM | A guy who lives with a dog is probably a good catch in my books. Dogs are a commitment. I know I would look at a guy with a dog as being a stable kinda guy with a lot of patience an a lot of love.
just my 2 cents... and yeah... I am a dog lover and a sucker for a guy with a dog.
(I really miss my dog.... ...he was a great companion for 13 years...damn great dog!)

hey rep8,its not that i need to get over it,its just something i noticed,i like the forums here and i thought it was a subject to bring to the table, cause ive noticed it,seems many women dont want an independant man.
I think a man at 35 living alone with his dog is a good thing and I love an independant man as do most of the women I know. With his dog to look after , it shows that while he likes his own space he is sensitive enough to care for another , albiet, his dog. Children don't happen to everyone, nor should they.
The men that I would be more wary of are those who live at home at 35. A man who cannot make his own way in the world at that age is more likely to be a concern with self identity hangups. I would give him a chance to prove otherwise of course.
I agree that you didn't hear the whole conversation, but don't they always say that about what we overhear...we never hear something that we are going to likel

Last summer I was dumped by a gal I met right here on pof because she decided that she wanted to get back together with her alcoholic/druggie ex-boyfriend who has never held a job in his life. However, that one was not too difficult to understand. She had sixteen cats and three dogs and specialized in rescuing stray animals. She did not want a strong and independant man, she just wanted another cat to rescue.

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/10/2008 7:57:38 AM | I'd prefer living alone with a fat cat. BTW, why is it you can't write something that is literate and readable? Why do you have to insult your readers with a confusing difficult to understand message? That's probably due to your living alone isolated from humanity.
A real catch is a man who takes the time to communicate his thoughts and feelings accurately. Your so-called skills don't make any man a good catch. Just about any human being can do this stuff.

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/10/2008 10:21:40 AM | Wow that's calling the kettle black...... I know plenty of single women in their thirties who live alone with pets. Please know not all women express those same feeling in which you over heard.
The we go again JUDGING....and we all say that we don't..

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/10/2008 11:29:27 AM | They sound bitter. Frankly, I'm dubious of dating anyone who doesn't like animals!
Also, I've heard women say they'd rather date a guy who has a pet, because that show's he's got some responsibility, and a commitment to something other than himself. As one woman i know put it: "a guy with a dog will come home at the end of the night because if he doesn't, he know's he's going to be cleaning up dog poop from his floor!"

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/10/2008 12:09:29 PM | Haha... ready to be educated today? I am loving, god fearing, well educated, wild, romantic, single, in my 40's living alone with a great labrador....and LOVE IT!
I really don't like many people...that can't love a pet (cat, dogs, fish, horse..ect). When they show ownership of a pet or even a great kid...it shows their most probably a loving person or can be. I met tons of girls....and my dog lets me know, if their loving or not!
*if they bend down..."HI PUPPY...SUCH A CUTE DOGGIE" (hell...i would love her doing that to me...haha)
* if they bend down, with beer in hand, with plate of NACHOS on their table at APPLEBEEs and wanna kick my dog....ect! Screaming..."THEY HATE SINGLE MEN WITH DOGS!!!" I am sure you get my point... "THOSE PEOPLE ARE DISFUNCTIONAL WITH THE WORD LOVE!"
If people can love something in life...that is GREAT. You probably overhead two HEFFIER TRACTORS, HUMAN PIGS...at their local eating hole, gulping down beer and munchies...hating the world and everything in it. haha
When meetings tons of people from all over the world, on walks in SAVANNA, GA. Their super loving, kind, happy....and great people to meet. Sorry the media brain washes everyone....thinking the world is so bad and evil. We meet lots of vacation people (3150 so far) and so many loving souls. So it's a birds of a feather flock together deal.
Seek love and you find love! Seek hate...and you find hate!
Head to a local church outting with your dog...and you probably won't see the fat ladies, drinking beer....eating nachos, complaining how fat they are...and hate the world and everything GOD created in it. Their hung over, searching for men on single web sites...laughing at profiles "SINGLE MEN WITH DOGS". Those kinds of people...I run from and feel sorry for their BLACKEND SOULS...of HATE, NON-LOVE...and DISHONESTY to their self....of not LOVING anything...even their self.
Sorry you got poisoned by SATANS HELPERS...haha!
Feel sorry for their souls...and move on. Their losers!
PS My dog finds the loving people of the world...cause they come to use with open arms and smiles. We love that about the world! I suggest...everyone with pets, go on more walks...and spread more love in the world...it needs it!

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/10/2008 12:19:29 PM | Why would you sweat this OP? Having something else in your life to take care of, like a pet, shows you to be a responsible person. Don't read too much into one overheard conversation that you probably heard out of context.
I wish I could live alone with my dog! Unfortunately, the ex got the dog in the divorce a few years back. I thought about getting another one, but with my work schedule and how often I like to just pick up and go on the weekends, it would be unfair to the dog. I guess I could get a cat, but I figure you're either a cat person or a dog person, and I definitely fall into the latter category.

| single men in their 30s living alone with a dog Posted: 3/10/2008 2:08:26 PM | Well I don't think all woman feel that way. I personally would rather talk to a guy who lives alone waiting to meet the right lady rather then one who keeps jumping in to relationships that fail.
But that's just me...& Frankly I think the woman who said that is probably some superficial wing nutt. Just sayin'
