| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 3/17/2008 8:34:53 AM | I think there is a package here and age is a part of it. Being in a prison camp and tortured, etc. for five years certainly must add to the "stress years" on John, but otherwise he's just got one thing: staying in Iraq.
We have some very difficult choices to make economically. So much outsourcing, a very serious trade imbalance, a dollar that slides every day, crippling medical costs and a generation that is sicker than its parents so even more crippling costs to come, a massive federal deficit, so many things that have not been addressed by the Republicans and some of which were created by them and their crazy policies .... and I am not even going to mention climate change, which the CDC says will be the defining issue of our generation and the next two generations... and all John McCain seems to want to do is ride the white horsie in Iraq and wave his little, wooden sword while he cashes in on the hero status.
We don't need a military hero at this point ........and by the way, my uncle lawrence was a hero in WWII. Three bronze stars and two silver stars for bravery in action....not getting caught and beaten up in a German prison.
The man is too fricking old in ten different ways. His shtick isn't what we need to face the challenges we have. It's just four more years of Bush and more Republican disaster.
We are crazy and self-destructive as a people. Where does this death wish come from?

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 3/17/2008 10:06:44 AM | | Ok first of all lets be real here. Some of our finest presidents of been a little older and since they have seen and experienced more in there lives it gives them the advantage of being able to ovoid the mistakes of there predecessors. Its true with age comes wisdom. I for one want and experienced man in that important office because there's to much at stake for our future. | |

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 3/17/2008 12:25:27 PM | The economy is not McCain's strong suit. Even he admits that.
I would trust the Clintonistas with the economy. I think Hillary would listen to the advice of the best minds out there and take a pragmatic course.

Advanced age isn't necessarily an indicator of any advantage in someone avoiding mistakes. Still, McCain isn't too old, someone in their early 70s can certainly be an effective president; the age is neither an advantage nor a disadvantage. I'd be more concerned with experience than age; a younger man can certainly have experience, and an older man can still be mentally sharp and lead.

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 3/18/2008 7:10:38 PM | | Do you really think that being OLD and out of touch with the modern world . is a good thing in a future president? The generation that he comes from is the one that f...d things up in the first place. | |

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 3/19/2008 7:36:15 AM | Even McCain's supposed strength, foreign policy, is questionable:

Lieberman is playing Condi to McCain's Bush.

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 3/19/2008 8:02:21 AM | He's perfect.
He too slow, and old, to cause any trouble to the 'real' powers that be.
Like, George Bush, he is deliberately picked and placed via a fraudulent voting system BECAUSE he is not too bright..and therefore extremely controllable by the puppet masters.
Do you actually think America is a democracy....hahahaha

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 3/19/2008 8:12:10 AM | Given the country's shabby electoral process, I would say it is questionable whether is a democracy/republic. The fact that much of the process has been outsourced to private companies which favour the Republicans (at least in terms of donations) is outrageous.
Still, I would like to know, fullonpro, who you believe to be America's "shadowy overlords" as The Onion called them.

There were several MUCH better options among the Republicans. His current status is astonishing!
Why is it that just a year ago, he was given no chance at all, not even a prayer. But now, he is the top-runner? He is all but the nominee, at this stage. And sure to become that.
Keep in mind too that he has ethical blemishes on his record and only a few short years ago, stood pecariously close to being ousted from the Senate, along with the others involved in the Keating-Five scandal, who were.
That's the Straight-Talk Express for you. Think about it..
Yeah, makes ya wonder, doesn't it?

Posted: 3/20/2008 9:13:49 PM | | Cant blame Bush or the republicans for the war still going on. the president has 90 days of control. congress has kept us there and we have to stay now. if we left its surrendering period.Democrats cut back on our military which may work in a utopia but were not in one are we.

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 3/21/2008 12:04:04 PM | | I think he is. But as a Conservative I have to think do I want McCain who is too old or do I want Obama or Clinton as president so my choice would have to be McCain. | |

I agree-far too old. The fact that he's the best the republicans have got is quite telling.

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 4/7/2008 3:23:50 AM | | There is no age limit in our constitution to be president only a bottom age , which is 35 , so one can be United States president at 173 ... if one were to live that long. | |

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 4/7/2008 7:52:39 AM | | that is left wing propaganda. that is like saying barack obama wants to kill babies, nuke pakistan, views all white people as evil, ect. the 100 year comment was taken out of context just like the right wingers take things that barack and hillary say out of context. but, I have said it before and I will say it again, barack is much more like hitler than mccain. both good speakers with bad ideas. | |

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 4/7/2008 8:02:20 AM | | I came to the same conclusion. they all blow goats. the government has WAY too much power and right now, both parties seem to want to expand that power. the republican party has been totally hijacked. | |

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 4/7/2008 10:57:36 AM | John McCain is a good man. He wouldn't be a part time President like Reagan was.
If you take the job seriously, it ages you fast. Sworn in when he's 72 means that there would be a very good chance he wouldn't live out his term. So you have to look more closely than usual at who he picks as a running mate - if it's another Bush clone or Dan Quayle type of figure to appease the hard right in his party, then I think a McCain vote would be very dangerous.

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 4/7/2008 11:47:53 AM | Him and his wife are both shriveled, old, white prunes....old money, old America ...nice for the garden parties, but I think they need to retire and just enjoy life, go fishing, golfing, relax .... and let it go.
Time for SOME FRESH, NEW BLOOD.
Obama.
Put it this way, two men in a ring, las vegas.......Obama gives the KO to mcCain, 1st round.....any betters?
THE MAN IS NUTTY, EVERYONE IN WASHINGTON KNOWS IT, HE IS HUNCHED OVER, WRINKLY, READY FOR THE ROCKING CHAIR. AND YES, HE S A GOOD MAN, HONORABLE, ETC.... BUT HE BELONGS TO THE OLD AMERICA, NOT THE NEW AMERICA.
VOTE FOR HIM IF YOURE 90 OR SOMETHING, HE MIGHT JUST KEEP ALL THAT IS OLD FASHIONED AND TRADITIONAL FROM CHANGING FOR FOUR YEARS, MAYBE.......
IF YOURE UNDER 90 AND WANT YOUR OWN FUTURE, NOT SOMEONE ELSE'S, VOTE FOR O B A M A !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted: 4/7/2008 2:29:28 PM | Will someone please post some links highlighting the honest, intelligent and rational nature of McCain because all I've seen are the bad points, the contradictions, the bumbling errors and downright war mongering. Every time I see this guy I hear the tune 'puppet on a string' in the background

| Is John Mccain to old to be president. Posted: 4/7/2008 5:02:50 PM | There are too many bad points about McCain!!
Here's a list from moveon.org
http://pol.moveon.org/mccain10/?id=12407-8158277-DoD9B3&t=231
10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):
1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.
2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."
3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3 4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."
5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill. 6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.
7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me." 8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.
9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult." 10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a ”zero”from the League of Conservation Voters last year. 10 John McCain is not who the Washington press corps make him out to be.
