| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 7/27/2008 12:15:40 PM | I agree, spitfire....they've gotta have PPV buys, and to do that, they have to make Cote look like a legitimate opponent. I can't wait to hear how many times between now and the fight Joe Rogan or Dana White mentions how good Cote's punching power is and how he is a REAL threat to KO Anderson. They'll bring up his TKO wins over Kendall Grove and KNOWN knockout artist Drew McFedries..
Damn, I'm almost starting to get hyped up for this fight myself. Maybe I should ask the UFC for a job...
In reality, Anderson is going to walk through Cote, but they'll milk this fight for all it's worth to sell the pay-per-views.
But I will be there, because Chicago is close, and I do want a chance to see Anderson fight live....just hope the rest of the card looks competitive.

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 7/27/2008 12:24:57 PM | | You're lucky to see Anderson fight. UFC 78 came to Jersey, but the card was pretty brutal. There were a couple real good fights, but honestly the prelim card was better than the main. | |

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 7/28/2008 4:11:32 PM | No need to Pay for the Silva/Cote fight.....it will be over so quick that all that TSN or ESPN will show the fight in it's entirety the next day....and I agree, Silva beating Cote will do nothing for his status....
But who is going to make a GOOD and EQUAL opponet for Silva in either the 185 or 205 weight class's???

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 7/29/2008 7:34:07 PM | I am going to have to put Fedor at the number one spot after his recent win over Sylvia. As awkward and uncoordinated as he might appear, Sylvia is still a top fighter. He has defeated Arlovski two times, Vera once, and he was winning the fight with Nog until he got submitted.
Don't get me wrong though, Anderson is definitely the 2nd best "pound for pound" in the world in my opinion. He has the potential to be the best if he keeps defeating top competition in convincing fashion.

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 7/30/2008 4:27:03 PM | | Disagree. By your logic, Anderson should have to fight Filho, Lawler, and Lindland before he's considered "top dog". You don't have to beat everyone to be on top. | |

TK won on a fluke cut from an accidental headbutt and was later trounced by Fedor in a rematch)
Just noticed this^
IIRC, Fedor WON the fight by DQ. TK cut Fedor with an illegal ELBOW and was disqualified. However, Fedor was unable to fighht the next fight since it was a Gran Prix and TK was selected to go on. It is listed as a LOSS on Fedors record but it was not a loss, TK was DQ'd for an illegal blow.

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 8/7/2008 9:11:46 PM | Ummm hold on here:
Anderson has lost what 4 times? (Ryo Chonan by flying scissor sweep to a knee bar?!?). Fedor has never lost. And he has been in trouble in his fights (The Randleslam, Lindland cut him, Coleman had his back, Fujita etc) and has always managed to find a way to win. When you consider how INSANELY HARD it is to remain undefeated in MMA it puts what Fedor has done into perspective. You would think that the guy would have had at least ONE bad showing but he has always pulled through. THINK ABOUT THAT for a minute. Even the other all time great fighters in other weight classes can't claim that. People say that Fedor hasn't fought top guys lately but who else fights people that are FAR, FAR bigger (Hong Man Choi, Semmy Schilt, Mark Hunt)? You may say HMC is a pud but the dude went to a decision with LeBanner in K-1 and is 7' tall and 400 lbs. You try armbarring someone that is litterally double your size. I don't care what anyone says the dude is 400 lbs and 7 feet tall!! The sad thing is that there will be idiots out there that will try to crap on Fedor's accomplishments if and when he finally loses. He has beaten the best HW BJJ guy on the ground twice, beat wrestlers, beat K-1 guys at standup, and beat bigger stronger men (Schilt, HMC, Hunt).
The guy is a genetic freak. His hand speed and reaction time are absolutely insane. In the CC fight he was beating CC to the punch and the kick and checking kicks, and countering punches with double hooks and combos.
Silva despite his losses is a much better fighter than he was in Pride and GSP has beaten some excellent fighters, but IMO Fedor is still the top P4P.

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 8/8/2008 5:45:31 AM | | I definitel think that Fedor and St. Pierre are the two best as of now. Still can't wait to see what Brock Lesnar may become or is he all hype. Will be watching that match tomorrow night. | |

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 8/8/2008 8:32:03 AM | Gotta love the Lesnar hate.
Lesnar deserves to get humiliated and driven out of the UFC.
What if he GNP's Herring into a tko victory?
It is very possible that Brock could win.
He is always gonna have some problems with the BJJ guys. But he has a chance with everyone else.
If he can improve his GNP, and get some sub D. He will be capable of posing a problem for a hell of alot of Heavies.

I admit it----I'm a Lesnar hater. Lesnar is in the same class as Zulu, Giant Silva, or Kimbo.
Kimbo is a joke. Kimbo wouldn't get past the 3 minute mark with Lesnar.
They are freaks and curiosities in MMA. Lesnar is somewhat better than the other three because at least he is a world-renowned wrestler; but he's not a genuine fighter and will never be a P4P best like Fedor or Anderson.
I dunno if being P4P is his goal. I think he just wants to be the champ.
It's not like he is gonna one day challenge Fedor or anything.
And is Brock a freak? Yea. With his size, strength, quickness, and agility. I'd probably have to call him a freak.
With proper training. He can become very dangerous. That cannot be denied.

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 8/8/2008 1:24:23 PM | Herring better stay on the outside. Heath could win if he can weather Brock's ground and pound and get back up on his feet.
Lesnar is extremely explosive and strong - there's no denying that. I wouldn't say he is in the same league as far as Fedor with explosiveness, but he may be the closest of all the heavyweights. This is Brock's major edge, along with his wrestling.
Brock's gas tank is untested, but something tells me he is going to win either by TKO or a decision. Herring's wrestling is no hell and I think that will be his undoing. I don't think Lesnar has to worry about subs coming from Heath, outside of a rolling kneebar from the turtle position.
To tie this in with the thread, Herring's loss to Fedor ( the number one p4p fighter and GOAT) was seen as an upset at the time as Fedor had a lackluster performance against Semmy Schilt. If the fight unfolds the way I think it will, it will be interesting to see what Heath has to say about Brock's GNP verses Fedor's.
If Herring does win, I think it will be in the same fashion as his victory over Tom Erickson - a gassed fighter who eats a high leg kick and gets choked out.
My money is on Brock. | |

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 8/8/2008 2:47:31 PM | Personally I think tomorrow nights card has got a great line up of fights..
Did anyone hear that Irwin tested positive for ?something? after the Silvia fight and is now serving a 7 month ban from fighting..

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 8/8/2008 3:26:23 PM | I think Brock will be a force in the HW division eventually. His background is arguably the best to have to transition into MMA, and he's a very fast learner, as well as the best athlete in the division, hands down.
As far as his cardio, I think it's probably a safe bet that he won't gas. His work ethic is unbelievable, and with his wrestling pedigree, his cardio is PROBABLY off the charts as far as heavyweights go...we'll see how it is if Herring can get it into the later rounds. I do think Brock takes it via ground and pound. Herring has been in there with the best, but he was taken down by Chiek freaking Kongo.

What do you think of Kimbo slice
He's great as long as Gary Shaw can keep throwing him cans and over the hill brawlers. Once he gets in there with a top 100 heavyweight, he's wrecked. I'd say he's the Tank Abbot of the new millennium. A strong puncher, but will never be a contender for any kind of legitimate title.

Are you calling Bas a liar?
I dunno, I see him beating Roger Gracie in the ADCC.

No doubt..this is the only way it can be. 1. GSP 2. Fedor 3. Silva 4. Penn
LOL. Is that right? I agree with you that A. Silva is #3, but that's about it. Here is how it should look:
1. Fedor 2. GSP 3. A. Silva 4. Faber 5. "KID" Yamamoto

| Is Anderson Silva the World's Best MMA Fighter? Posted: 8/31/2008 7:04:29 AM | You want to know what I find most interesting about GSP? If you agree with these rankings, and if he beats Thiago Alves assuming they fight next (which I think they will) he'd have beaten 5 out of the ranked top ten welterweights :
