Look at who he has around him; mind you a huge hole at center with the loss of Birk but otherwise a pretty decent o-line, good defense, improving special teams and one of the best backs in the last decade (with a way underrated #2 in Taylor) to keep zone and man defenses honest; so it is not all on Favre; plus the offense he's learning here is way more comfortable than what he learned at the Jets...

Very good points! Peterson is the star of that offense but Brett doesn't like to play second fiddle to anyone so we will just have to see how it plays out. I'm certain the Vikes will throw a lot more now. So probably more turnovers will result. But it won't be boring for you!

(And Warner was awesome. He's another archaic one who still kept winning against people's better judgment... MAN that guy could throw...)

I grew up in San Diego when Dan Fouts was at his prime and Warner is just as good if not better. There is a reason he holds the 3 all-time Super Bowl passing records. I will be very dissapointed if he does not make the HOF.

Favre has already been told (and the rest of the team) that he will not be blown out or burnt out. They are going to use him supposedly sparingly. I'm guessing they will keep his throw count under 25% of passes a game, so they can actually get two years out of him here. And no it won't be boring; Allen was interviewed yesterday and said it is really strange for them to have helicopters following them around just doing normal stuff. They are not used to this intense of scrutiny; but they are feeding off the energy so he's already brought a positive to the rest of the team. They are excited, and they are playing with passion. Tomorrow night will be interesting... I hated the zoo, but I am loving the environment there right now. I hope it continues...

I can't imagine him not making it. He was wildly successful for a superbowl winning team, translated to winning elsewhere and holds records to boot; longevity is something they look for; had he not come back to the league it might not have happened; but his comeback and subsequent success on a previously bad team I think helped his chances.

See Moon.. thats what i dont understand... SO If there gonna cut down on his Passing attempts? Why Do the Vikes even need him?.. Dont you just need a guy that can manage the Offense b/c ya got AP in The backfield thats your bread n butter....

What happens when Mid way through season Farve has Nothing left in the tank { Kinda Like last yr}.. What do you do then? .. You Have alienated Jackson & rosenfels... You cant count on them mid way through season to step in and save your playoff hopes...{ask the jets, they will tell ya about that}....

I tend to Agree with fran tarkenton On this one... "the Farve situation is a Joke"...

then why even get him?...if you are gonna get a qb to hand the ball off to the best running back in football you could have just got Sage to do that.

If the vikings start to sling the ball around, they will be in trouble. Its no secret that Favre throws picks..

22 tds, and 22 picks last year....this makes him a average qb.

I dont want to hear all the usual cliches of "leadership" and "his presence"....according to some Jets players he had his own hotel, and was treated like the diva he is.

Is he an upgrade?.yea sure, I will say he is. I would be a moron to tell you that I will take Sage over Favre, If you made me pick anyway. Its just that I wouldnt be all that excited added a qb that is probably going to throw 15-20 picks in a year.

That's what Vikings players are already saying. It's not just a cliche if it's actually true.

I highly doubt that the Vikings passing game is going to be a hybrid situation where you have Favre only throwing 25% of the passes and someone else throwing 75% of the passes. He's going to be the QB. That means he will throw 100% of the passes unless he gets hurt. 75% of the offense won't go through Peterson because no offense has ever done that. Forte of Chicago (fantasy fans take note) had just under 45% of the offense go through him last year and that includes receptions.

Yeah, he's the int master, but that can be corrected if he gets really comfortable with his receivers.

.........i wouldn't blame Favre 1 bit for coming back.......if some team(s) are stupid enuff to pay someone for doing something he can no longer do, why blame the player....the money is just to good!

...IMO, Favre's goose was cooked when his GBP lost in the 2007 playoffs Vs the G-men!

But that's just it. That's what we HAD. Someone to "not lose".

And you know what? Playing to not lose didn't work.

The Vikes need him because they need the defenses to quit putting nine in the box on AD. The Vikes need him because they need someone that the coordinator can actually trust to give plays to (there was one game last year where, start to finish, I literally called every single play they ran. If I could do that, you can only imagine how far ahead the other team was... The vikes need him because the opponents need to be freaked out about trying to prepare for both the passing AND the running game. Who do you key on? You key on AD and Favre can burn you. We haven't had that in a while. The Vikes need him because they need someone that can jumpstart their competitiveness and their passion. He is a competitor when he IS on the field, and he is a hall of fame quarterback many of them grew up idolizing. They are not going to hold back when playing alongside him. They are loving it. The Vikes need him because they need fans passionate about them again. The Vikes need him because they need someone to mentor the qbs who have not been able to carry the team on their backs; they were one piece away and MANY of the players admitted this (publicly and privately). I think they alraedy burnt out jackson; but Rosenfels can learn from a guy who is one of the greatest in history; why is that a bad thing?

And the Vikes needed him because he gives you the unknown joker... an edge that gives some much needed swagger again, whether it's justified or not, and incredible instincts.

Maybe he'll fall on his face; but with the core surrounding him; he's always had to carry things; he's never been able to spread the load like this with this amazing of a running game and with indoor to boot, it's POSSIBLE he actually will stay around through the season, keep AD from being totally beat up and do more than just manage the games. Or he could get injured and play two games and be done, or retire again before teh season starts. But I'm hoping his success especially against the NFC north will continue, and his being indoors will be keep him going later in the year...

SUM yup i see your point there and i would have to agree, If someone is gonna pay ya what 25 mil for 2 years.. Ya cant turn that $$$ down!

lol Moon ya Sorry about the Wrong Allen i hadda go back up in reread your prior Post.. Once i saw Allen My Mind went straight to Paul instead of Jarod lol....

Yup Moon you are right about them having a Qb thats was going along with a Game Plan to manage the game and not lose it! and it didnt work out either....

Yes your also right Farve is a HOF but I dunno to me even HOF gotta hang it up for good when their career isnt what it use to be!.....

Im Just having a hard time getting over each year he retires then unretires, Then Wants to be in the spotlight when the season almost rolls around...

I Look at it this way: In order to be a good teammate and a loyal one, You should do what the others do, Like Going To Mini CAmps Off Season, Going to the full Training Camp.. To Me i wouldnt care if your a HOF or just a Rookie, Everyone gotta put the time in!....

Anywho I guess we will find out here in a couple weeks what will happen.....Thats the great things about debates in sports eventually they get played out on the field

deed:

totally agree on his teammateship skills lacking in his preseason antics; though it actually could prolong his season; (and I am hopeful his actual play on the field will make him as positive a teammate as the preseason and offseason a negative one).

And also agreed, the field is where the Vikes will come out smelling like geniuses or idiots in going after him. REALLY curious how the game goes tonight...

Even if they don't complete all of them, it will be really nice having them finally actually be a threat on every play on offense for real. They were so boring overall; we need fun and excitement on the O side.

Btw, lol; no worries on P Allen, He IS the voice of the vikes so it was understandable; it's J Allen who is the cutup of them (that guy constantly blows my mind with what comes out of his mouth, though his play on the field is John Randallish.. he's flat out amazing - and he LOVES Favre being on the team so far at least)..

as for hanging it up; I'm hoping there is enough gas in his tank to get us going southwards a little come January... (mind you not holding my breath; but a gal can dream...)

ok so fine; he was pathetic after three days' practice fand no reps... but he was working with them during the game. We'll see how next week goes...

and what on earth happened to T Jack so far? Nice seeing 82 actually breaking some nice catches too; been awhile...

and when did we actually decide to not only get special teams, but GOOD ones? I haven't seen this kind of depth in ages; how do you even cut?

weird game..

Nah Really he wasnt that bad.. His WR were the ones that Phucked up.. didnt come back to the ball n sorts.. He actually only threw one bad pass and it got caught on that 3rd down play when the Db dove down and almost got the INT....

One thing needs improvement is.. the O line omg farve got hit least 4 good times...

Like i said before Moon.. I dont agree with what farve did but Hey it is what it is.... and the people that are excited to have him as there qb.. who am i to say there wrong yanno... SPorts fans are suppsoe to be about loyalty and what they think is right for there teams!

you are right on point with this, if the fans of the vikes are happy good for them, they have to b a better team with him. i live right outside of philly, and i see people with vick jerseys, iam not going into the vick thing, but if they can embrace that guy, how can anyone hold a grudge against farve? the other thing is , i always hear people calling farve a diva, maybe he is , but my point is most players are!. look at chad johnson, maybe the biggest one in the nfl, do u think you wont see # 85 jerseys in cinncy? how about t.o. , what diva he is, i saw cowboys and eagles fans wearing his jersey when he was on the team.

The offensive line I already knew would be a problem. Over the last several seasons, whenever Birke was injured and was not in there, they were MASSIVELY less organized and had way more problems (and a WHOLE lot more sacks and hurries). I think that was one of the reasons I was most excited about Favre; because I knew whoever was there was going to have to think incredibly fast on their feet while a whole lot of bodies came flying their way because of the vikes just letting Birke go. It always takes time when there is a major change for them to gel together; and that position makes the toughest change; because he drove how the rest played together. That one will take a while to adjust, even though there is incredible talent; they have to play well instinctively together.

Actually, Favre himself was VERY hard on his own play and i believe I said he was somewhat pathetic. That being said, though, they did explain what happened; the way he was used to them leading on the routes was opposite the way the Vikes receivers had been coached to break to the ball; that is one tweak they hadn't figured out yet in the two days of practice before the game. They kept breaking opposite what he was expecting at the very end of the design plays. They will fix that I'm hoping before next Monday's game; because it drove him and them both crazy when it kept happening. My guess is, he will make them adjust to his way rather than him adjusting ot how they are coached, but I could be wrong..

(on teh Vick thing, I will confess they were talking about him coming here for a while too, and I'm happy we got Favre rather than Vick for obvious reasons; though I still maintain what he did in the offseason before signing is not real classy nor fair. But hopefully the play will make up for it; the excitement, the making everyone around him play better and the interest (we'd been having blackouts because of fan apathy and, worse, fan disgust; and here Friday we had 65,000 in a PRESEASON game. That was fun...); that will light a fire under the players they need if they're going to finally not underperform.)

On Nfl network they did show and explain why the 3 incomplete passes were the receivers fault for running the wrong routes when favre completed 1/4 in the chiefs preseason game.

If it had been Tavaris Jackson that made the same passes as Favre, I really dont think they would spend the time to focus on the recievers and how it was there fault. I think the comment would have been...

"Tavaris needs to understand his recievers better"

1/4 and the spin machine has started in the diva's favor already...

iam not saying that u are wrong, but maybe it has to do with the fact that hall of famers get the benifit of the doubt, they always have and always will, thats in all sports.

He looked downfield for Percy Harvin, expecting the rookie to make an inside move on the Kansas City safety, but as Favre felt the rush he flinged the ball into no-man's land. It landed on the turf, and the Vikings turned to punt.

[+] EnlargeBruce Kluckhohn/US Presswire
...
"He actually kind of stuck the guy and went over the top, which is what he had been coached to do," Favre said. "I didn't know that. So that's where I need to catch up. As far as the terminology and things like that, I'm pretty much up to speed on that. I felt pretty confident about that."

Favre is saying that exactly about himself... he is not making excuses or saying they need to change how they play; he is saying he needs to catch up. The setup is different (less shotgun), the routes are designed different on the execution and they're getting used to his cadences at the line with a newly rebuilt line.

No excuses, just a place to start from, and hopefully correct when he's had a game with more than two days practice (adn that with 5,000 press there watching his every move)... but with a 19 year pro who knows our team, knows the qb coach and wants to win, I personally don't see him as someone comfortable not improving on 1-4 for four yards while blaming his receivers. He's not that kind of player, even if he DOES do retirement circuses...

don't feel bad Deeds, you saw it the way the national press saw it; local press, however, is notoriously unforgiving and pretty exacting; they are brutally honest and direct; diva or no diva . Favre is very much under a microscope and there are no diva allowances here. They are cutting no slack whatsoever.

So what you saw is what most press saw; no shrugging needed. :)

farve, peterson, harvin.... oh yeah, it's on.

Peterson isnt any better with favre there, he gets out of bed and rushes for 1700 yards in a season....

Harvin is a rookie wide out, besides Randy Moss, name another rookie wide reciever who has had a really big year...and lets face it, wide recievers coming out of Florida dont have a good track record..

again, not saying that Sage or TJ is Favre, but my point is that I really dont think this puts the vikings over the top....I still put the g-men, panthers, eagles, and falcons ahead of them.
