Peterson isnt any better with favre there, he gets out of bed and rushes for 1700 yards in a season....
Harvin is a rookie wide out, besides Randy Moss, name another rookie wide reciever who has had a really big year...and lets face it, wide recievers coming out of Florida dont have a good track record..
again, not saying that Sage or TJ is Favre, but my point is that I really dont think this puts the vikings over the top....I still put the g-men, panthers, eagles, and falcons ahead of them.
Look at Randy Moss's stats with R Smith opposite him and Carter.
Look at him without R Smith opposite him the next year .
See the dropoff?
Randy moss was MADE as a rookie because of an extremely solid back who, along with Carter, they were able to stretch the field.
If they have a qb that can do play action and hit receivers when they try and shore up on Peterson and amke them pay, they will be able to open up teh huge plays on the passing side which will open up the plays on the rushing side... Harvin might not be Moss calliber, but AD is better than Smith (though I think Smith was underrated).
the qb matters. They didn't trust Tavaris before; so they just put 9 in teh box on AD. They can't do that anymore; so unless we have a lot more 3-4 formations like we had against KC, we should be able to significantly stretch the field and open up much bigger holes for AD, which will open up a whole lot more man coverage which we can hopefully learn to exploit once the timing gets perfected between Favre and the receivers.

Jabbar Gaffney Patriots, Reche Caldwell Patriots,Travis Taylor Ravens, Darrell Jackson Seahawks.
All these guys come out of florida.

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 8/28/2009 11:12:36 PM | | The Virus known as BRETT lol has settled into the Vikes locker room... Same story as last year? Divided lockerroom? | |

All these guys come out of florida.
Darrell Jackson was the only one who was even remotely good out of this group...the rest were below average recievers....
p.s. mgm...Jabbar Gaffney plays for the broncos now...

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 8/29/2009 12:53:47 AM | moon..
I said Moss is a freak. Moss is probably the most talented football player on the field at any point in time. He had a huge year with Brady two years ago with no running back, ...Randy Moss is a freak, the only rookie reciever I can remember having a huge year. Typically rookie recievers struggle..
but if your expecting Percy Harvin to have a huge year just because Favre is there, that is just a big stretch...all im saying...
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 8/29/2009 5:09:19 PM | Yeah, the locker room is very much divided; and it will be until they start to play as a team. So far Brett had two series and a few days of practice; with the first line.
Many of the people who are showing solidarity to either Sage or Tavaris were the ones saying they couldn't win with Tavaris and get a qb in or they'd quit the team...
Once they actually start to play entire games as an entire team and get the focus on winning and off personnel, it should improve... but in the meantime yeah, the locker room is a mess :)
broncs: Moss is a freak; but he was only a freak for New England and he was WAY more a freak for us with Smith than without him (noticeable dropoff for him when Smith left; HUGE dropoff when Carter followed).
that being said; I never said Harvin is going to have a huge year. what I SAID was that it will take a qb knowing how to stretch the field to actually improve the offense overall; our offense, no matter how good Peterson is, can't sustain, score or even keep the offense out there with any kind of consistency; they're just too conservative because of lack of trust in the qb (wasn't kidding when I said I called every single play they did in a game last year; if I could do it, you can o nly imagine how far ahead the other team was in defending them; plus they NEVER adjust the second half) because teams just key on AD and we have not been able to make them pay with who we had leading the offense. They need a leader with skills and the ability to think on their feet, to avoid landing on their heiny.
Favre knowing how to read defenses, once he gets in sync with the receivers, will have a huge year in improving our offense I HOPE; though I personally think it will take harvin a while to develop; but he is not our only receiver and Shoenko has really come out the second part of last year; Favre will help finally get us a legitimage danger on the passing side to open things up for Peterson; otherwise I fear for his career longevity; they're setting him up to get absolutely crushed in their play calling and inability to give him ANY room... I actually cheer when he makes it back to the line of scrimmage lately...
(as for Moss with NE, Moss having Brady and the rest of the receivers around him and one of the best coaches in the past several decades in Billicek, didn't hurt Moss much; he sure as heck did nothing with Oakland and did NOTHING his last couple years here... and he was way more a cancer in the locker room than Brett could ever be (ok, not way more; but he was more). He was poison here, pure and simple.

This is inexcusable, at any time, let alone a meaningless preseason game! All he needed to do was put his body in front of him! Tip a shoulder, and he would have decleated him! Why the Hell dive for his feet?
Good thing that was his last play ... they would have made sure he had a broken rib after that garbage.
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/6/2009 7:04:31 AM | Farve was a dousche for that block and his sad sap story after was ghey lol but anywho
I owe an appology to MOON.... I Bashed Farve all this time and I guess im gonna have to eat my words lol b/c it appears he is going to have a good season!
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/6/2009 7:57:48 AM | hey, no worries dd, and no apologies needed yet; you could still be right and he still could sukk... :) (guess we'll soon find out.)
I am ready for some football...
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/6/2009 8:36:16 AM | So, the "Prima Donna" Brett Farve basically ends the career of one player and almost ends the career of another with an illegal block, all in the span of three weeks of meaningless games.
And I thought people were suppose to mature with age.
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/6/2009 9:59:09 AM | Nah Moon he aint gonna suck...One thing about Farve is yes he loves the spotlight but this guy aint gonna go down in flames.. he wants the Kudos.. he'll prolly play his ass off this season | |
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/6/2009 10:24:36 AM | Dirtydeeds, Favre better hope the offensive line likes him enough to block their azzzz off for him otherwise Favre will be a no name in the NFL....I believe most players in the NFL dislike his stupid crying azzzz.....If Favre had retired and remained retired his future hall of fame induction would have been well accepted....Not so sure about that now! | |
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/6/2009 11:15:17 AM | | lol very tru Shabbi... Hes a good actor im sure he can buffalo them over to block for him or give them $$$$$$$ | |
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/6/2009 11:22:49 AM | dd: the line is still in flux since they let MB go; but luckily they resigned Kleinsasser after all who is a blocking machine; because if it was only up to the o line until they get their chemistry and timing down with the new anchor; he's dead after game three, ironman stats or none...
As for his reputation; after seeing how his teammates; who were frustrated and angry, reacted when he actually showed up; I honestly don't think so..
There is some serious hero worship (shoot, Jerod Allen who is an amazing probowl veteran, said he was out and out stalking him)... although we had another with a very similar end to his career in Cris Carter; I personally think it was a total travesty how his career ended after what he brought to the vikes... yes he was a pain in the neck personally but he was a HUGE part of that '98 team, as well as a whole lot of other ones; had spectacular stats; he MADE Randy Moss what he was (Moss was so incredibly conditioned after that wintering in with Carter and his intense practices that he was totally set before camp started and was able to produce from day one; not to mention not being able to key on Moss because of Carter and Smith)... and he was all but thrown off the team at the end, no thanks, just a good riddance.
For Favre's sake; because of what he was, I hope he does get one year to "go out with a bang" (I doubt he'll be around next year), and whether or not other teams hate him or love him; they have to respect his career... and if he just sticks it to Green Bay I'll be a happy camper :)
As a person I'm not crazy about him; but the cheap shot I don't think was totally intentional (his face afterwards looked pretty sheepish and embarrassed, not gloating or sly), and I'd bet he'd apologize to the guy. He plays hard usually, not dirty. i don't think that will change now.
imvho | |

haha, like he was going to get up, smack the sides of his open hands against his thighs, and scream, "Suck it!" at the safety while he's writhing in pain?
Favre's stupid for this hit, but he's not that stupid. Of course he's going to look like, "Oh, did I do that? Oops. I was just trying to block." Wily old vet doesn't refer solely to a player's legal plays.
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/7/2009 5:59:27 AM | Well, he DID get a $10,000 fine, but I found out there might have been another reason for his expression besides sheepishness or "sukk it"
I guess he played Monday night with a busted rib he apparently got after the KC game.
His expression might have been just plain old "ow"... since he had it after he hit the ground... might have even been some commiseration in there...
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/9/2009 2:15:45 PM | The Favre will make his 270th consecutive start when Minnesota plays at Cleveland on Sunday. That will match what the NFL considers the longest streak in history, set by former Vikings defensive lineman Jim Marshall from 1961 to 1979.
The 39-year-old also said he "may not" be able to play in all 16 regular-season games.
He looks over 50! I am sure he will play Green Bay twice then retire again
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/16/2009 6:16:55 AM | I love the new commercial he's in... the guy may be a lot of things, but stuffy and arrogant isn't one of them.
When the salesperson stands there and passive aggressively gets in his face about 'customers who waffle" and keeps drilling home how annoying it is when people just can't make up their minds, and them fading to him still standing there undecided by the tvs when they were closing the store for the night and telling him to turn the lights out when he finally leaves;
he was hilarious... talk about being able to totally poke fun at himself...
(and if he keeps getting able to be taken out of games halfway through the fourth quarter because of huge leads, he won't have to play all of all 16 regular season games... )

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/17/2009 10:33:31 PM | I just wish that when someone says they are going to retire (Brett Favre) they actually go away. I have disliked this MF'er for what feels like a billion years now, and he keeps coming back. He's the c0*kroach of the NFL. Go away Brett, just go away! | |
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/18/2009 3:05:40 PM | | He had pitiful stats but then again he didn't make a lot of attempts in last week's game. No ints was the best stat for him. I think he will be for the Vikes exactly what they want. A veteran who can read defenses and call the audible when needed. They have the best RB in the league. They aren't a passing team. Favre can read a defense as good as any QB in the league and that will work to the advantage of the running game. | |
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/27/2009 1:31:10 PM | oh...my...God...
oh.... my... God.........
Beyond words... that was the best comeback I have ever seen, any game, any decade...brilliant catch, brilliant last drive, brilliant defensive stand...
Favre, you can unretire any time you want.
wow. HUGE hats off to you all.
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 9/27/2009 3:35:56 PM | | Favre throws a bulls eye to beat the forty whiners.. Not many QB's can make that play ( scramble and throw ) Next Monday night Packers at Vikings | |
