| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/10/2008 9:13:55 PM | | The last thing I heard about him is he might play for the panthers? I don't know for sure but thats what his agent said. | |

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/11/2008 12:37:55 PM | Hey Chatter Box,
I think you spoke to soon. Brette Favre is going to play this year. No one knows who he will play for, but he will play.
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/11/2008 2:03:35 PM | I'm guessing that kinda throws Green Bay a curve. They have probably spent most of the offseason designing a game plan without him in the line-up. I'm sure they'll take him back and that he'll start. But it really prevents that offense from moving forward. | |

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/11/2008 2:09:09 PM | | I'm typing this and listening to the local news at the same time-Favre has asked the Packers to release him, according to the team...another source said that Favre texted GM Ted Thompson and said, "Having 2nd thoughts. Can we talk?" Allegedly, Thompson responded, "No, I'm on vacation." | |

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/11/2008 2:10:29 PM | | brett favre just asked for his release.....just came across...if he plays its gonna be for a different team | |
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/11/2008 2:28:34 PM | | The news also stated that it might ruin his legacy....Seriously, Farve should stay retired. | |
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/11/2008 6:08:51 PM | | If Montana can play with another team then why can't Brett. How about Brett Favre in a 49er uniform.... | |

If Montana can play with another team then why can't Brett.
Somewhat of a good point, but Montana did not bamboozle the 49ners or Chiefs from retirement like Farve did.
Right now the Packers are willing to take Farve back, but as a back up. Farve made his decision several months ago, so the Packers moved on and spent all their time preparing Rodgers.
Its obvious Farve prefers to be a starter, so this why he wishes to be released. The Packers are playing it smart and won't do it. They would rather get a trade value then to release him.
I like Farve and everything he has done to the NFL, but the last 3 years of Farve's chewing over when he plans to retire has made me exhausted....
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/12/2008 2:47:55 AM | Dallas would and probably will take him. Jerry Jones doesn't care who/ what it costs to get back to a Superbowl. | |

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/12/2008 7:39:50 AM | Send him to Miami!! Now that would be history if he could turn that team around and be in the Superbowl!! Yes that is Just a little crazy | |
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/12/2008 9:00:37 AM | There are 3 ways how this is going to happen,
1) Play backup for Rodgers. 2) Trade Farve for a draft pick. 3) Farve continues to be retired.

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/12/2008 9:41:46 AM | No# 2 only will be acceptable to Brett on your list of 3 ........... Wiz
(1) Favre is no way going to be anyone's back up for millions of dollars! (3) He is playing! unless no one wants him for maybe just one year.

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/12/2008 10:11:47 AM | It was odd that he retired from the Pack when they were so close to the SB. It turns out that the rumors were true that he was angry they did not sign Randy Moss and did not want to suffer another disappointment in the playoffs. It would be too crushing for him.
I think he is someone who likes the challenge and there are a number of teams that would give him playing time, but might not make it to the playoffs. Maybe he needs to spend one more year on a losing team to appreciate his time with the pack and retire gracefully. But Unitas did play for the chargers.
I'm guessing that Brett would play for the Chiefs near his hometown. But Miami would be a strong choice with the sun and the Pack trading for Jason Taylor. Atlanta would also be a good choice for him. He has mentioned that he wants to be closer to home so any team in the South would be ideal.

#2 will only be acceptable to the PACKERS....Brett has no say....JaD.
Those were not question to respond, those were the options that Brett has. Packers have total control on what to do with Brett.

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/12/2008 2:26:34 PM | Wow this is not over yet. Seems the Packers want to hold on to Brett if:
Unsolicited, Lou Holtz walked over to our set and said, "I have a minute and I want to talk about Brett Favre." Holtz went on to say that he would welcome Favre back in Green Bay only if Favre understood he had to compete with Aaron Rogers for the starting job. Holtz wondered how Favre would handle the role as the backup if he lost the competition. I returned the comment with the same point but the names were reversed. Could Aaron Rogers handle the idea of losing the competition and returning to the backup role?

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/12/2008 3:38:28 PM | | WO W! I just heard that the packers will not release or trade brett farve and now if he comes back to the packers he will be the backup. You would think after all he has done for the team they would treat him better than this. | |

You would think after all he has done for the team they would treat him better than this. Anyone that reads these forums knows that I am no fan of Packers GM Ted Thompson, but I wonder how much of this is due to pressure on Brett from Thompson to "just go, already?" Think about it: Thompson started his tenure in Titletown by trading away THREE all-pro offensive linemen(and these were guys that were in their prime); I think Teddy boy wants to be Ron Wolf, and lead this team to the Promised Land from scratch...but as long as Favre is there, he can't really claim that, at least not in the fans opinions. Honestly, I kinda hope Brett takes TT up on the challenge AND BEATS RODGERS OUT FAIR AND SQUARE. Aaron Rodgers is not the kind of QB thats gonna get a team to the Super Bowl, even if he does stay healthy. And that's a big, festering "if."

| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/12/2008 3:58:03 PM | You know, something just occured to me: earlier, it was said that the Packers had alluded to the fact that they've already committed the $12.5M that would have been alloted toward his salary; now they are saying he can return as a backup? How's that possible? They can't force him to take less; it's a contract. Now I really believe he ought to call them(Packers management) on it; then they'll have to release him-or somebody else...or be proven to be less than straightforward in their dealings with the fans; and that's NOT something you want to be guilty of in Green Bay, Wisconsin... | |

Try to imagine Favre in anything but Packer colors I've been trying all day and I just can't.
I want Brett to play for the Packers. And if they don't trade him he probably will, because more than likely Rodgers is either going to suck or get hurt and Favre will be in before the season is half over. Unless of course Ted Thompson continues to act like a petty little girl who was rejected by the star quarterback and decides he'd rather lose games than lose face.
This is just ridiculous. Yes, Favre made a rash decision and I will even go so far as to say he has acted immaturely, but the Packers are being idiots. Their job is to field the best players, and Brett Favre is better than Aaron Rodgers. That's a no-brainer.
This is a pissing match, plain and simple, and both sides look bad. Brett should have known he wasn't ready to retire (everyone else did) and he should have made his decision to return earlier, but the Packers should be thrilled he wants to come back instead of whining about how he is disrupting their plans. To say he is welcome but will not start is nothing less than an intentional insult. They are clearly hoping he will decide to retire rather than play second fiddle. Being willing to pay someone 13 million dollars a year to hold place kicks hardly shows you are thinking of the best interests of your team. That leads me to believe they will trade him away...makes me so sad.

I think he knew when he said he could still play, but he didn't want to right now. Also, did anyone else here about the retirement letter Peyton Manning had written to Favre, but never sent? That's telling of the red flags that the Packers missed.

You can easily say the same about Joe Montana, many of us thought he would finish his career in San Francisco.....but actually finished it in Kansas City.
It's just not the same feeling.

Yeah i just lost respect for Green Bay's front office...the least they can do is honor his decision & let Favre try to sign with another team.
|
| Brett Favre to Retire Posted: 7/13/2008 8:28:20 AM | And yet, Brett Favre has f'ed with the Packers now for three years in a row and treated the Front Office with absolutely no respect. I know there is no such thing anymore in the world today, but how about a little loyalty.
Favre was given a 10 year contract worth over $100 million dollars by the Packers. The Packers gave him the respect of being the Quarterback for there team for the rest of his career. He still has 3 years $39 million left on his contract. But he decided to retire.
You would think that after all the team had done for Favre that he would treat them better than this.
Now I haven't been a fan of Green Bay's Front office for a long time, but I am really becoming more and more disappointed with Brett Favre day by day. I'm about at the point where I'm going to take my Brett Favre Rookie Card nd put it in my kitties litter box.
